An enforced 90 minute wait at Basingstoke tonight due to more chaos on the WOE line was tempered a great deal by this on 4O29. An obliging crew change right in front of me followed by a fine attempt to get the trailing 2000t in motion again - a reminder of just how good these sound under load - followed not long after by 70014 going the other way with 4M79 👌

Colas 56096 assisting 70807 with 6M43, Haverton to Colas Ribble Rail, loaded bitumen tanks, passing through Brighouse on 12th July 2023.

Piecing together the sequence of events, 70807 had left Haverton on time at 02.28 but encountered a problem early into its journey, reaching York 86 minutes late.  56096 was summoned from Doncaster to take the entire consist forward from York, by then +171 minutes, passing me at Brighouse +154 minutes down and reaching its destination at Preston +116 minutes late.  All in all, given the route that this working has across the Pennines, I'd suggest that's a pretty creditable performance by the driver and the signallers involved too.

Colas 70806 rumbles toward York, although it might have been the discharged bitumen tanks that were doing the rumbling, on 13th September 2023 with 6M44, Colas Ribble Rail to Haverton Colas.

Just read this:

70009... The longest time stored Class 70 is being prepared for a return to service, with 70009 (DHLT) authorised repairs at Leeds Midland Road. 70009 has been in store since January 2019, one of three Class 70s put to store during 2019, the other two being 70013 & 70018 stored during April and March 2019 respectively. 70009 is being brought back to use for long-term hire to Colas.

I wonder if will be repainted or re-branded?
