Hi, great layout, sorry a rephrase awesome layout and the photography, second to none!  Been a follower for some time now, so i hope you do not mind a couple of question.  Your Class 101s, I note the powered drawbars, what do these actually power?  And do they work when on DCC. Is it a NEM pocket too?

Thanks Paul!

The powered drawbars transfer power from the pickups in the unpowered car to the decoder and from the decoder to the lights back to the unpowered car, so that only one decoder is needed per unit to control the lights, so yes, they work on DCC. It isn't actually an NEM pocket though, although it is similar in design.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Dave

With 250 followers, your fan base is amazing, Dave, and I am pleased to be one of these, and to have "been there" for quite a while now - I really like the 101s with the gangways fitted.  They really look the part, and I hope that all your stock can be similarly fitted in time.  Every improvement that you do to your layout and stock does add to the WW "experience".

BTW the layout in this month's HM which is based around the same era and loosely on location is interesting, but somehow lacks that feeling of presence that WW has.  Is there any prospect of Mike Wild visiting Cockermouth to spash WW on the pages of yet another glossy.  It's about time that it did.

Thanks Stewart once again. I was chuffed to get to 250 followers. I guess I must be doing something right.

WW was in Hornby Magazine a while ago, can't remember which edition right now. Have sent you a PM.

I've had 3 main articles published on WW now (Model Rail, Hornby Magazine and most recently BRM), but never featured on the cover except as a small picture at the side. Not that I'm bitter or resentful about it in any way.  :jester:

Cheers

Dave

That would be Dean park Station ( can be found on Youtube) Much more impressive when you see it on Youtube, great channel and shows a lot of promise.

Had a look now, and you're right, it does look better on YouTube.

In the mixed livery rake is one of WW's lazerglaze-fitted Airfix Mk 2ds. The service looks well-loaded too. Those cheap day return savers are obviously pulling in the daytrippers...

Both of these vehicles need a bit of work to make them look more work-weary.

Anyone know who makes a good, traditional-looking 4mm scale farmer? I'm in the market for one (pun intended by the way).  :jester:

Like lmsforever, when I saw the first shot I thought it was the prototype, the lighting and everything are just brilliant. The only problem I have is with that white Transit - a real one, even fully loaded, would never be that low on the rear wheels and it looks wrong. Everything else is superb.

Regarding your question about farming figures, these two fine gentlemen are part of the Dapol track workers set:

But do very well in a farm setting:

along with a mucky tractor:

That must be a newly obtained hire van - it wouldn't stay in that state for long in railway use ;)  Absolutely brilliant pic - I think it's your best yet.

Thanks Mike. Yes, the van is on hire. It's packed full of spares to keep the 47/7s going. It won't stay immaculate for long. Nothing ever does on WW.

Hi folks,

Just a very quick update on my first new loco project in a while. This is a Bachmann 47001 which is to be renumbered to 47550 University of Dundee, as it was in 1982 with blanked over headcodes but no high-viz light.

The rivets on the windscreen surrounds are being removed and those horribly oversized front steps are being cut back too. The boiler exhaust port needs to be blanked over and a new driver needs to be fitted. After that, it will be renumbering and naming and then weathering.

In other news, the ESU booster has now been installed and seems to have considerably boosted the power available to the Heljan 47s in particular, so problem solved I hope and think.

The next job will be to attend to an errant Cobalt point motor in the East Yard. The lever has come off and needs reattaching.

Then I think I need to start thinking about the depot walkway and the gantry signal which will be on the main line next to the East Yard. Plenty to do!

Cheers for now,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Stumbled across Waverley West while browsing online looking for ideas for my upcoming layout, which incorporates a semi concealed station such as yours to hide sharp curves in a similar way.

I'm anxious to know how you modeled the Waverley roof? Do you have any pictures of the construction process? Any details on materials/products used?

Your layout is superb! If my new layout looks even half as good as Waverley West, I will be proud of my achievements.

Cheers and look forward to more pictures!

Hi Richard, and welcome to RMWeb.  You couldn't find a better layout to start you off on this site, but it is one of many, and there's layouts to suit all on here, in all eras, and at many different skill levels.
