RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 19, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 19, 2013 Is Dave Alexander's new website up yet? Didn't know it wasn't there till I read this, it's been a long time since it had been updated anyway. Y7 progress. Fitted the 'spider'* tonight and I now have a running chassis, despite one of the crankpin nuts making a successful bid for freedom. next is to make sure that the flanges don't touch the footplate and run it for a while on the rolling road, it needs the footplate on for weight, it struggles a bit without it. *OK, half a spider.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 20, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 20, 2013 Not done anything on the Y7 tonight, I've been distressing a Vauxhall Viva, but I have now got a 6 pin chip and a 'socket on wires' ready to be fitted tomorrow. RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 20, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 20, 2013 Hi Tom, Just the EM stuff, done 2 shows with GM now on DCC and seems to be working reasonably well.
Guest 2750
That's quite ironic, as I'm going back to Analogue! Have a good Christmas, and hope to see you at York!
N15class
Not done anything on the Y7 tonight, I've been distressing a Vauxhall Viva, but I have now got a 6 pin chip and a 'socket on wires' ready to be fitted tomorrow. I always thought Vivas were distressed from new.
jwealleans
I always thought Vivas were distressed from new. This one was only quite nervous until it saw what Paul was planning to do to it.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 21, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2013 Got the Y7 running well and the chip installed, the socket and lead are good as the chip can be removed if needed. And a short bit of video, sorry but the quality isn't too good.

DougN
Paul to solve the problem with the crank pin nuts making the bid for freedom ala the great escape, try a dot of cheap nail polish on the thread. It at least slows them down like Sargent Schultz !
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 21, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2013 It was when I was putting it on that it made it's bid for freedom, they're all secured with Loctite now.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 22, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 22, 2013 So, how did I make a complete hash of the boiler? or more importantly how did I sort it out? The Boiler comes pre rolled with an opening for the motor and needs the bottom seam soldering up, this I did and with my combination of motor and gearbox I needed to remove the rear part of the bottom of the boiler, this I did and on turning it back over realised that I had cut the front section out instead. Bu%%er! This would not have been a problem if it had been a plain boiler but there are holes for handrails knobs, clack valves and the safety valves , these would look a bit daft at the front! plus grooves for boiler bands. The way round this was to solder a piece of curved brass into the offending gap then cut out the other end. This seems to have been successful. The boiler has now been fixed onto the smokebox.

Mrkirtley800
Who's a silly billy then, Paul. Never mind it won't be seen under a coat of crimson lake. OK I've got me coat. Couldn't get to the club last Wed, so have a great Christmas. Derek
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 23, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 23, 2013 Improved engine red, Derek - Black... Boiler attached tonight and steps and buffers fitted too.
Mrkirtley800
Despite my warped sense of humour, it looks very good Paul. Remember the 7mm Y7 I built for Chris. I have to admit, it looks the goods in plain black. Runs well too. Derek

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 29, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 29, 2013 Managed to get a bit more done last night and this morning, mostly detailing bits, if anyone spots a cast brass NER globe lubricator (one off the smokebox side) under their bench could they please pop it back down the worm hole.Ta.
49395
Very nice Paul. What time period are you aiming for with it? It's a bit early for Greyscroft isn't it?
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 29, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 29, 2013 Yes, too early for GM, the last BR one went in '52. It will be pre 1946 renumbering, there's a couple I'm looking at as suitable.

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 31, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 31, 2013 The roof is now on and the cab back is detailed, this in not fixed in place yet so I can paint inside the cab and fit a driver. I have also changed the buffers from tapered to parallel.
