RMweb Gold Steve Hewitt Posted October 2, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2014 Another exhibition is now behind us. We were at Halifax last weekend, where we won the "Most Unusual Layout" trophy. Not sure if that's a complement? Everything is back in John's shed, and essential repairs etc are in progress. I spent today fixing a few signals which were faulty and then John and I completed erecting all the baseboards. Less than seven weeks now and we'll be off to Cologne. Les Green
Different, yes. But unusual?
Titan
Blimey, I wonder what they would make of either of my two layouts - one is lego, the other is live steam! Well done none the less!!!
Popular Post Les Green
Did a trial fit of the arches that support the South West screen of the station today. A good fit. Now to add the detail before the final fit. Looks good from inside the station.

Les Green
Back to work on the hotel. Most of the details have now been added to the North West tower. The rest of the details can only be added when some of the other sections of the building have been completed.
Popular Post Les Green
Just like buses. You wait ages to complete the first tower and along come three!!
RMweb Gold Steve Hewitt Posted October 22, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 22, 2014 Les, you kept quiet about these last night! Absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to see them. Steve.
clecklewyke
We were at Halifax last weekend, where we won the "Most Unusual Layout" trophy. Not sure if that's a complement? I also won this prize a few years back with Clecklewyke. Did you notice that a previous winner had been a Lego train set? I had a feeling of being damned with faint praise - NOT what I would think of Lime Street! Ian
Popular Post Michael Woolford
I'm taking my camera too so I might put some photos up on Sunday or next week. Well, that's been and gone... Anyway, some photos from the show: Did the Liverpool Echo have any hiccups to report on I wounder? RMweb Premium Welly Posted October 27, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 27, 2014 Great photos - that streamlined Duchess looks frighteningly Germanic in dirty wartime black livery!
Popular Post Les Green
The front screen arches have now been completed and await weathering before permanently fixing them to the baseboard. Also the South section of the North Western Hotel has been almost completed. Just a few more details to add before I abandon building and carry on with the drawings required to laser cut the remainder of the components.

RMweb Gold Steve Hewitt Posted October 30, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 30, 2014 Today Rob and I were at John's for a running session in our preparations for the upcoming trip to Cologne. First job was to install the completed front screen arches which support the end of the South roof. Les, who has made this had delivered it to Rob for painting. Whilst we were admiring this, who should turn up but Les, with the two towers which comprise the South end of the LNWR Hotel. He's already posted a shot or two on this Topic, but here are a few more I managed to take. I don't think they can fully convey the absolutely stunning effect this has on the layout. Here the new section is in place, with the remainder of the hotel "proof of concept" parts in white beyond. The whole building will be about 1.2metres long. Some of the detail: This extension to the Hotel contained the Parcels office. A view along the Lime Street showing the whole 8 ft. width of the layout. Looking along the alley between the Station and the rear of the buildings on Lime Street. Above are some the architectural details which Les has cast in resin from masters made by 3D printing. The ornate Lightning Conductors are etched Nickel Silver. Here's John admiring this latest addition to his layout. And Les with every right to the big smile on his face as we all admired this masterpiece. Just hoping now that Les can pack this first part of the Hotel with his luggage for the Cologne trip! Michael Woolford
That's bloody fantastic Les, I can only imagine how good it will look when the rest is built! Michael
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted October 31, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) I don't think that the Craftsmanship Clever button is enough a Super Craftsmanship Clever button is needed. That is absolutely stunning and totally transforms that aspect of the layout. Edited October 31, 2014 by Siberian Snooper

Gravy Train
Hi Les, well done with the Hotel, it looks superb and well worth all the effort you have put into it, really looking forward to the complete model, wonderful stuff, it would have been very difficult indeed to have scratch built it, I think you approached this very wisely indeed. cheers Peter Ps: I have 'Chester General' to do lol :-) Edited October 31, 2014 by Gravy Train
LMS2968
I too would comment on this, but unfortunately I used up my stock of superlatives a long time ago!
LNER4479
Simply stunning (sorry if it's already been said but merely clicking the 'craftsmanship/clever' button doesn't do it justice). I trust you'll be adding Doddy's statue on the concourse
