The sale page shows the sale bargains, and mentions that they will be adding more over the next few days:

http://www.hattons.co.uk/NewsDetail.aspx?id=151

Current focus seems to be mainly Heljan Class 26, recent Hornby Southern & LNER steam locos, Thomas the Tank range and lots of bus bargains!

Note that Hornby.com also has a Winter Sale on, again comprising mainly Thomas and similar items. Motivation for Hattons, maybe?

[Edit: removed errata, added Hornby sale]

Now that S15 is tempting, I know I've said in other areas of the forum that I'm not overly fond of smoke deflectors, but that is one fine looking locomotive! It's really the wrong end of the Southern network for me, although I frequently use the excuse "there's a war on" for my layout having western locomotives wondering over with goods ;)

Thanks I've been waiting for Heljan 26/0 to come down to a better price!

I popped into one of the Hornby concessions places today.  They said the 30% reduction was the maximum it would be and any unsold stock will be back to Hornby in about 10 days.  I suspect it will be the same arrangement elsewhere.

Actually, arrangements do vary.

In Cardiff, Hornby is still at full price in Modelzone/Smiths and in Hamleys, but in Hawkin's Bazaar (almost) everything went straight to half price and there won't be much to send back if Hornby wants it (and I doubt they do otherwise the half price sale wouldn't have been needed).

I can imagine it being worth sending unsold stock in Modelzone back to Hornby. Not so much so for what little remains in Hamleys I'd have thought.

Hattons have Heljan Class 26's for £59 (for semi gloss version) + £61 for other versions (RRP £119.95) & weathered 26 for £65 (RRP £129.95), which looks pretty good, as long as the chassis doesn't try to grow!!!!

Forgive my ignorance, but whilst I wait for the price(s) to fall further, please advise what you mean by "as long as the chassis doesn't try to grow". Obviously there is some potential problem here of which I have not heard about. Many thanks.

There are a number of threads on here concerning mazak rot which has in the past affected both Hornby and Heljan eg:

If you try this links below the pictures will give you an idea of the possible problem & what Mazak is. From what I understand its caused by impurities in the composition of the Mazak chassis. I think all the manufactures use the same sort of alloy chassis going back to the Hornby Dublo days.

In recent years Mazak rot has mainly affected some, but not all, of the early Heljan class 47s manufactured from around 2003, and the first releases of the Hornby class 31s from 2004/5. There have probably been some others over the years less well publicised - I have TH Jinty from 1970 which has blown itself apart after 30 years in unheated cupboard.
