Scottish Region photos 1980's

Recommended Posts

Hi Bruce,

This was one of the 'Queen of Scots' workings.

I have nothing in the diary for the date of the photo - although that is no suprise as this was a 'tourist train' and not aimed at the British enthusiast

I do have the SRPS railtour to Kyle for the following day though!

Thanks

Thanks for the quick responses Phil and Flood. I dont remember seeing this train advertised at the time and the Wiki article does not quote when the service started so quite possibly a private charter.

As for the SRPS excursion, Phil

37027 and 37033 arrive at Markinch with an SRPS Edinburgh to Kyle excursion. June 1983

I still remember the acceleration the pair of 37's delivered on what was a decent load (10 bogies) and on the 1 in 102 up to Lochmuir. A good excuse for the modeller however (if you're not overly picky about the details :O ) to run teak and Staniers with the mk1's.

I hope all RMwebbers had a very enjoyable Xmas and received all they hoped for.

For my part, my kids completely surprised their old man by giving him one of the Rails l/e Bachmann 47/4's 47461 in Scotrail livery - and what a lovely loco it is. :D :D :D . Thanks also to CliffW for his part in the subterfuge!!

So, I had a quick look through my 47 pics and here's some 47/0's for your approval (there's logic in there somewhere  )

Firstly, 47206 passes Linlithgow in charge of an extra Inverness to Edinburgh express. July 1983

47 177 at Millerhill depot with 40 023 'Lancastria' in the background

47238 leads 47712 with the 14.30 Perth to Millerhill goods past Lindores Loch in north Fife. April 1986

47 207 passes Markinch with 09.50 Edinburgh to Inverness in April 1980. In the background 06 008 shunts the yard; the signalman has been sharp in returning the arm.

Enjoy the rest of the holiday - for my part I've got a 47/4 to run in!!

No worries Bruce. We had a lot of fun, especially after the 47 had been ordered and you came on and described the Scotrail livery as "looking well fit" as it made your son and I laugh.

Nailbiting bit was the chance of Rails doing a last minute deal on the limited edition stuff as they did, thank goodness it was a crap offer!

Sent you subliminal messages about a large logo being better dinnae buy 'em!! Phew.

I bet Rails never sold many of the three pack ltd ed 47s Queen Mother, Scotrail & Merddyn Emryss, crazy combo spanning a time frame no-one would want!

Very useful photo that, I'm guessing it's the 16.05 Aberdeen - Edinburgh. Also there appears to be the empty stock from the previous night's 1S37 Kings Cross - Aberdeen Postal on the back.

Many thanks for all the photos you've posted.

Magnificent Bruce, you just keep producing more and more interesting photos. A great selection. Just one small point - 47342 would be inside Dundee West shed, the old Caledonian shed in Dundee.

keep them coming.

cheers

John
