Scottish Region photos 1980's

27026 still in the same livery while 27055 had lost its scotty dog

Hi Wiz,

Suspect that you are looking at the other side of the loco - which didnt appear to have carried a scotty dog - see here. Note that both 55 and 63 were involved with the SRPS Class 27 Farewell tour and have ended up stacked adjacent at Berry's.

Great pics - keep em coming.

Great evidence, WIZ - I stand corrected. Just remains to track down the nefarious character who swiped the scottie between then and the following May. A job for Auchtermuchty CSI methinks...

Just spent an enjoyable (if Baltic) day at Bo'ness being serenaded by a variety of EE type 3's. Must look out some old pics...

Looking at the photo at Vic Berry's and the railtour it's not really that 27055 has lost a Westie ( ;) ), more that it has gained a Haymarket Castle. As she was reallocated from Haymarket to Eastfield week ending 28 September 1986 (and never again reallocated) she should 1) not have had a Westie before that date and 2) not gained a Haymarket castle later. All very strange.

:D The things we used to get up to on railtours

Even managed to change a loco number one time - and on both sides!

Thanks

Good montage there Jim. It wasn't Scottish Region policy - quite the opposite. All the work of one Haymarket Supervisor needless to say!

Hi Guys

I have just spent a good while looking through all the photos on this thread. What superb stuff. I spent a lot (too much according to exam results!) of time early 80s shuttling back and forth between Arbroath, Monifieth (Home),Dundee, Perth, Edinburgh and all between. I just wish I had photographed it all! Particularly like all the photos of Dundee where I spent a lot of time with my mate Kenny and the gang. Drinking tea in the buffet........extracting Nestle chocolates from platform machines (bit of an addiction to the red bars!!)....listening for Deltics on the bridge or tunnel....locals from Perth.....Sigh!

:(

Still great memories ;)

Keep the photos coming please

Chris

And now, if you please, a solemn moment...

Not many are aware of this but in 50 days time we will have the 25th anniversary of the passing of the last known proponent of the "Hooch" on Scottish Region. This display of spontaneous unbridled joy was so frowned upon by the management of the time that the devotees had to resort to subterfuge to prevent detection.

Nevertheless, I was lucky enough to catch the display on a couple of occasions - firstly, behind the loco, out of site of the offices, at Millerhill:

However, at Haymarket in full view of the offices, this group of staff are on their best behaviour - hands in pockets or thrust by the sides, the urge just must be resisted.

Back in the sticks, the practice was well, still practised....

post-3695-0-51967900-1297374190_thumb.jpg

Eventually, the region was forced to employ enforcers to ensure that the Hooch was stamped out for once and for all.

Known as the Hooch & Stamping Enforcers, this division eventually became omnipotent and so yet another fine Scottish tradition was lost in the mists of time.

With thanks to the supporting cast of class 26's.

Bruce ;)

Some HST's

Now, I'm absolutely no expert on coaching stock but some of these display some of the variety of formations used in them thar days.

The others I just like....

Firstly, and appropriately, set 254001 at Craigentinny. April 1980

Also at Craigentinny , winding it's way across to the depot is 254 029. April 1980

And, 30 years on they are still with us - and still easily the most comfortable way to travel the ECML At Springfield in March last year looking slightly travel worn. Excuse the indulgence.

always nice to see pics of the TRUK/TRSB sets

the 1980 pics show the TRSB (buffet-bar/ later buffet)in the middle of the second-class portion, which made sense to me - most buffet customers would be from 2nd class, just means there's a max of 2 coaches work through to get your 'maxpax'! the TRUK (restaurant) as always, was next to the 1st class - was there an 'at-seat' service for 1st class, with the unclassed seating used for 2nd class customers? also there is a TS at the end, TGS not yet available.

i think the TRUK respresented the last true BR restaurant/kitchen car? (no buffet provision)

the 1981 pic shows the later layout - both catering cars together, saloon to saloon - if you were in the last TS (later TGS) it was quite a trek to the buffet!

there were more sets which had the single TRUB (3 saloon windows, buffet and restaurant provision), mainly due to the downturn in full-meal provision, obviously tied in with reduced staff overheads.

i would have thought that many of the TRUK vehicles have spent longer in service in modified form than in their original role - many have been converted to LH RFMs, royals and departmental vehicles

great pics all, i just wish i'd been able to take more photos myself (late70s-mid 80s was my era) - i do have some but will have to rake them out and scan them, unfortuneately many remembered images are in my head only!
