Heljan Class 16

I think Hatttons make sure they fill the pre-orders before posting them up.

I believe they give the packing department a head start, but when they are in stock they usually will show up as so, even if the item isn't yet listed on the new item page.  We should be getting "packed by" emails soon.  Been so long I forget which livery was pre ordered...

Picked up my D8400 in plain green from T4U this morning. 1st impression is 'what a beauty'. I've always liked the look of the 16, more so than the 15, and this one rings the bells for me. Straight out of the box, it runs to the usual Heljan standard. In tandem with the 15, uncoupled, it is just a shade slower, which is probably down to not run in? Finish is impeccable, though I have a feeling the BR crest may be a tad small, I will check later. All the little bits are factory added, apart from the headcode discs and NEM couplers, which are all in a bag. I haven't compared it to photos or drawings but it does look right to me. Only down side is that it is fitted with directional - and BRIGHT - led lighting (4x front, 2x rear), so that's a top of the list job to rip it out.

If no-one else does it, I'll try to take some pics later if I get chance.

'Once they arrive in stock?' Please tell you ordered more then 16's :O

I ordered one of each, but I missed one in the first order so I put in a second order. Naturally Hattons merged the order to save me the cost of two lots of postage. As mentioned already, their website shows them as being in stock. Maybe they have a lot of pre-orders to process.

As promised, a few quick shots (could be better quality - sorry) of my D8400. The headcode discs are a pain to fix, especially the closed ones, I need to clean up the paint a bit now! Worth drilling out the fixing holes before fitting them.

Don't know why but my page froze during the last upload, but it seemed to get there anyway. A few more to complete the shots.

Worth noting that T4U price seemed to match Hattons - and no postage either. Mind you it cost me more as I got a Railroad 08 for the chassis to go in my J15 - at last!

I actually prefer the squared-off shape (especially when compared to the BTH class 15s) but the livery application was extremely drab. If they had ever made it into BR blue the effect would have been just as dull (IMHO).

Imagine if they had got as far as Railfreight red stripe livery! :)

I can't wait to get one scuttling through Sumatra Road. Solid N.E. London class 16 territory.

Hi Lloyd,

My first D84hundred is now on its fourth layout, here it is on Southbridge circa 1985 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/66487-southbridge-my-first-depot/ and here it is again on Brisbane Road http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/67810-brisbane-roada-new-pig-lane/?p=1131190

Some nice chap called Andrew who works for Hattons has packed my two new ones and is sending them to me. :danced:
