EBay madness

Still, a brave try at Locomotion, as well as the Pen-y-Darren engine. Crude but amusing (for the wrong reasons?), and you probably won't ever see an etched kit for any of those on the market.

Looks like 2 people know what's on offer (blowed if I do).  Started at 99p but now £53+ with 2 buyers vying for pole position!

The top loco has Hornby Wheels. Not sure about the tender wheels...small diameter axles...Romfords?

The middle one seems to have a "Nellie" chassis (or part thereof!). Looks like later Jinty type wheels? And a wagon bogie under the "tender"...

The bottom loco has Romford type wheel nuts....and Hornby Loco Bogie wheels on the tender....

I don't know whether this has been mentioned before, and I've never commented on E-bay before on here, but am I going mad or am I missing something here. There's a trader called roco-loco who is advertising 8 separate listings for empty Hornby loco boxes, various prices. The cheapest is £178.95, the dearest is £202.95. ???????????????????????????????

Where do you start with this monstrosity?

An expensive O gauge model destroyed with terrible paint job and varnish.Simply painting over the skirts with black paint in the hope that nobody notices. Cardboard nameplates cut out with blunt scissors. Sealed beam headlight made from what looks like a Scrabble tile. And no effort at all in changing the nose-side grilles and part to a refurbished loco. Just seems such a waste of an amazing loco.....

I think your description is rather harsh.

Have you looked at the close-ups? I don't know about the headlamp but the paint finish and nameplates are pretty terrible (although the seller presumably doesn't think so, having provided such detailed photos). The double arrow transfers seem particularly crinkly.

The arrows do look a bit crazed, and sit awkwardly over the detail, and I can't say I'm a fan of the nameplates and slightly bulbous lights, but overall it seems pretty decent, it looks like what it should be - could I achieve a better standard?  Probably not.

This, on the other hand, seems a bit optimisitc for old ('shorty') Mk3s:

Talking of old Mk3s...

Doesn't even look to have the right bogies (grey?!).

Of course, you could have a nice scale length set, DCC fitted, with a decent motor.  But why go to all this trouble and then keep the Bachmann 158 bogies?!

Maybe they're comparing notes with Cartmel in Cumbria.... Actually, that one's been quiet in recent months. Maybe he realises he's been rumbled.

You spoke too soon.

Just when you thought he'd gone (no such luck!)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-DUBLO-2-3-RAIL-MODEL-No-32012-LNER-TEAK-3rd-CLASS-COACH-GREY-ROOF/301834420447?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40800%26meid%3D30f82587522b475a8fcdcf6f21ede5df%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D401046764496

OK, it is the rarer 3rd class coach and possibly the grey roof indicates it's one of the last clear out from 1954 (these were fitted with the grey BR livery roof, but are of no particular value, as roof replacement is so easy) and the plastic wheels are a modification by a past owner, not original as he's trying to make out (again quite easy to do). The condition is not brilliant and together with the lack of a box suggests a price of around £20 on a good day. (I would say good/very good - scratches and rust are not compatible with the description "excellent".)

If anyone's interested he has some more of these....
