industrial
http://www.ebay.co.u...830614719400688 Now up to 88 quid. Said to be professionally weathered. So do professional weatherers fog up all the windows? Is that what the protoype looks like in everyday service? 97 quid final price. All right if the engine is stored and on a winters day for the fogged up windows.

Geoff Endacott
Yes, of course it is. Drivers don't need to see out - it isn't as if their life depended upon doing so, is it? Mind you, a new Hornby Class 60 goes for more than £100 these days so it's not too bad a price for someone who can clean the windows off a bit. RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted August 28, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 28, 2011 Own up! Who bid on this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kit-Built-Bachmann-BR-S-Leader-Class-36001-/150651148510?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item23138218de
Kenton
Own up!  Who bid on this? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item23138218de Looked like a bargain at £10 but then things got silly. Very slightly off thread - I quite often run a wide open search of anything with less than 2 bids and about to finish ( less than 1hr to go ) - just to see what is passing. Of late, and very subjectively, I am getting the impression that more and more items are being over priced as a starting bid and usually pass without any bid. These probably would have reached the asked for price if they had started at a lower price (indeed many similar items have ended much higher). So are some folk just being greedy? and the other thing is that some people seem to think folk will pay good money for rubbish. (I have never understood the empty box thing - I throw them away)

Kenton
A loud 'Cor Blimey' was heard...... http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2eb752e834 There is such a thing as collectors - who cherish grey boxes - and will pay silly money for anything purported to be rare... then there are model railway nuts - who throw away boxes and actually desire to see such items run on track.... others would just buy a common one and re-spray it. Penlan
Just to counter most of the above........ Bought a couple of LED torches to make uncouplers, as seen on another layout. Paid on 23/8, delivery from Hong Kong, quoted as 9th - 24th Sept, arrived today 30th Aug. Agreed postmark is for Colnbrook/Slough - but still excellent service. And as an aside - cheaper and better than some I bought at a recent show which turned out to have filament bulbs and were not very bright anyway (or perhaps that's me!!!). The down side is my co-operators have now asked me to get some more (10, in time for the Cardiff show in October......). 37255
That said, I am now slightly tempted to get myself an autocoach (cheaper than that, mind!) and do it in blue/grey working with a 14! ... Derby RTC had one as Test Car 1: http://www.traintesting.com/freight.htm In later years it was painted choc/cream and later sold into preservation. IIRC there was a limited edition of the red/blue one (Modelzone?)

RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted August 31, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 31, 2011 Ah, I also see the interestingly meaningless 'Code 3' from the Model Bus World has now escaped into the model railway market. It is used to make something sound far more unique and special, usually when it isn't, just a standard model with a bit of extra paint slapped on or a number changed, Have always hated the 'Code #' system that some bus model floggers insist on using, it is virtually meaningless and thankfully due to the almost total and catastrophic collapse of the collectable die cast market some years back, all but extinct.

Pat Hammond in Ramsay's British Model Trains (4th Edition) has a Code 3 section - this was in 2004. However since that edition, this section has been dropped... dilbert. Now I might have been missing a trick with this one. But didn't the M&S set come with a Loco of some description all in some nice presentation box? RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted September 3, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 3, 2011 I've found the loco that would have pulled the yellow-fronted autocoach.
