EBay madness

Quote from advert:

"MY HUSBAND PAID QUITE A BIT FOR THIS ITEM HE STARTED TO MAKE IT BUT HIS EYES WERE TO BAD SO HE STOPPED AND BOXED IT UP"

Looks like his eyes were so bad that bits were just put in whatever box was to hand.....ohmy.gif

Anyone fancy a lucky dip?

All quite credible - the big clear-up after a modeller has departed this earth often results in all sorts of stuff being shoved in the first box which comes along or still has space left. In the auction room they are known as 'box lots' and can sometimes be most rewarding although the big difference there is that you can at least get a fair idea of what you're buying before you bid for it (but even them you might get a pleasant surprise once you get it home and really sort it out :), and find you've got three loco kits you didn't want ). But on Ebay.......

I'm curious as to what train of thought could make you think the seller is in any way genuine?

Red Baron, I never made any comment to the effect that I think the seller is genuine, nor did I say the opposite. My problem is with the posts implying that this particular individual has done something illegal, when no evidence to back that up was produced.

im sorry but if people cannot chat and have a bit of banter over some of the crud that gets listed on ebay then its a sad thing.

Dan I agree. But accusing someone of theft with no evidence is "banter too far"

M Graff. I agree, this thread is getting silly. Perhaps the E Bay Madness is rubbing off.

I would agree that the find a member function will find his name but if you go to the details to check his feedback or whatever it says "No longer a registered user" which to my mind says he is no longer on eBay although they still show a record that this user name has been used in the past!

I´m not surprised at all, £1400 for a never released prototype from a well known manufacturer. It could be much more expensive as I see it.

B)

I have seen a privately owned Rivarossi prototype steamer once, so I know what ridiculous prices they can have.

You are quite right. I stand corrected.

I find this one a little strange; I do think that the lady is telling the truth, but with her (long and excellent) record on the Bay, you'd have thought she'd know that decent pictures are essential, especially when you're not quite sure what you're selling but think that someone out there might know a bit more.

Odd - not suspicious, just odd.

Laura "MANSFIELD" user name "Harlow Essex", I think that gives a big Clue to who the "real" seller is, just check out user "Rays great deals" add the first name of the latter user id and the surname of the first user, and bingo, slow service guaranteed

Get your Kitmasters out of the cupboard...

60 quid for a Battle of Britain!

And go to page 9 of his 'other items' to see the other Ktmaster kits - including theree garratts, all MIB, at different 'buy it now' prices between £100 and £135. I really ought to check back and see how much he paid for them as the Kitmasters he has on offer looks remarkably like the contents of an auction lot that went a couple of months back. I wonder if he bought all the coach kits as well - including the B*** P****** cars?

I don't want to get into the Hard Jeff debate again (is he hard, by the way, would he take our drummer on in the car park, I mean what a handle!), but as I am an unapologetic defender of our mother tongue, I can't help but smirk at these completely contradictory parts of the description:

CLOSE TO THE END OF HER WORKING LIFE

PAINTWORK FADED

COVERED IN TRACK GRIME AND DIESEL EXHAUST

but:

IN AS NEW CONDITION
