RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted September 18, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 18, 2014 021 has gained some numbers. She had a quick run round the yard, before disappearing on a rake of hoppers! Anyone know if this was a test run? Or maybe the first revenue earning run? Cheers, Phil.

Guest B Exam
60074 Has lost its powder blue livery and nameplates in favour of DBS Red. Allegheny1600
The DB class 60's look very nice but I really feel they are spoilt by the awful 'yellow panel', why can't they look like this; To me, this looks much better - livery wise. Cheers, John. Yeah, I know 'regulations'! It doesn't seem to affect them on the continent though.
RMweb Premium Welly Posted September 23, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 23, 2014 ^^^ Thanks to mandatory high brightness headlights, I think yellow panels are redundant.

yorkie_pudd
^^^ Thanks to mandatory high brightness headlights, I think yellow panels are redundant. well redundant I agree in these modern times plus it will tidy the look of many a loco for the better. At Liverpool bulk terminal, Strand Road just now. image.jpg great shot there Michael which shows how good colas colours standout at night - who needs hi-vis.
250BOB
At Liverpool bulk terminal, Strand Road just now. image.jpg Hi Michael Most evenings around 5.30pm , the coal train works back from Ratcliffe PS to Liverpool through uttoxeter where I am. On Wednesday evening I heard it rumbling into earshot as usual, expecting to see 60074 in Schencker red livery for a second night in succession. I was shocked.....so surprised by an Orange black and Yellow Colas class 60 working the train, I didnt note its number. So I assume this was the loco you photographed on the evening of the 23rd, that I saw the day after, Wednesday,, working the empties back to Liverpool..?? Thanks for posting the pic. Bob. david.hill64
^^^ Thanks to mandatory high brightness headlights, I think yellow panels are redundant. That argument was tried by Heathrow Express who wanted a derogation for their EMU's. The T&RS sub-committee didn't accept the arguments then. I cannot remember precisely the argument why it was refused, but I think it was on the lines of yellow is good, lights are better, yellow plus lights is best; there can be no justification for departing from best practice when the only reason is aesthetics and the cost of yellow paint is trivial. It's all very well thinking that a German loco looks better, but when you consider that the staff fatality rate in Germany is several times that in the UK, you might think that there is some point in the yellow. (OK, I know it is probably more to do with methods of work, but anybody who proposes removing a safety measure from the railway needs to have a very good argument why). Allegheny1600
Hi David, Fair enough, I knew nothing about staff fatality rates in Germany, I must admit. Several times that of the UK? Geez, that's really bad! You'd think they would have done something about that. Yellow panels it is, then! Cheers, John.

The Border Reiver
A slight twist on the thread title, we have 'Start of the Tugs'. Here are some photos I took ouside the Brush Works at Loughborough on a miserable wet day Sunday 27th July 1991. I was lucky in that all locos had their front numbers painted on as most did not have their side numbers.. 60073 with no number, no sector decals or 'Cairn Gorm' nameplates. On the right we have 60069 complete with number, coal sector decals and 'Humphry Davy' nameplates. Centre is 60011 'Calder Idris' probably in the works for rectification. On the left is 60075 with no number, sector decals or 'Liathach' nameplates. 60069 with no number but with coal sector decals and 'Humphry Davy' nameplates. 60074 with no number, sector decals or 'Braeriach' nameplates. On the right is 60076. 60072 with no number, sector decals or 'Cairn Toul' nameplates. On the right is 60068 'Charles Darwin'. 60068 with no number, sector decals but carrying its 'Charles Darwin' nameplates. On the right is 60071 and left 60072. 60071 with its number and coal sector decals but not carrying its 'Dorothy Garrod' nameplates. On the left is 60068. I think we've been reading the same forum, Mick. Personally I'll miss seeing and photing DBS 60s if the contract moves to GBRf. Good though it would be to see the 59, if that is indeed where it ends up, I'd not want to see it every Monday, Wednesday and Friday as per the current working timetable.
