Newbryford's mostly Yellow workbench - "it's a drag, man......."

Mick,

I couldn't make it to DEMU, even after much bartering of Dad....

Yesterday I found a video of the first 56 hauled log train I saw, and it was interesting because:

a ) I think Big Jim was driving, and he gave it some welly accelerating!

b ) The driver had propped up the window with a piece of wood or something...but the reason of my post:

c ) It only had 4 wagons...so you needn't have made a train of 9 after all! I don't have any idea why it had only 4, but it would make an interesting formation if the rest of your rake were having a scheduled exam at Deadman's Lane WRD (Wagon Repair Depot) :D

Jack.

a) cant remember if that was me or not, working 4 wagons seem to ring a bell though!! if you tell me the date i can work out if its me

B) The droplight is broken so is held up with a wooden prop!

c) it would have had 4 wagons as they wouldnt have been able to load it fully for some reason, if it is one of my workings it may have been the occasion i got into chirk late and only 4 were unloaded and sent on their way so at least something could run loaded the next day

Hi Jim,

I used Evostick impact. Applied sparingly to both halves of the joint and left for 5-10 mins before sticking together. Once built, the stanchions are quite fragile and the MDF can "de-laminate" and crack at the joint. It's a simple fix with poundshop 4 for £1 superglue to make it solid.

I'm pretty certain that once loaded, it will support the stanchions from being pushed inwards.

Cheers,

Mick

Mick, I know you run as up to date as possible, but.....

You needn't have converted the wagons, don't know how many they had like this, but the first wagon in this pic is just a standard cargowaggon....I think.....

(I'll have a look soon for the date Jim)

Jack.

In the meantime, work still progresses on the yellow stuff - 99666/977985/977974/977868/1256 are nearly there. Pics soon.

Cheers,

Mick

It's been awhile for a yellow update.

Top to bottom,

977985 (SGT2)

99666 (SGT2)

977868 (RSC2)

977974 (TIC)

Work on the underframes has been progressing and pics of those soon - hoping that it isn't nearly 6 months again for the update!

And in the meantime, I have a green distraction before setting to on 37219/60021/70808.

Cheers,

Mick

The other yellow stuff is progressing along well.

These are the generator vans 6262 & 6263.

Inner windows and doors filled in and grilles added to the outer window openings

post-408-0-16956800-1403651522_thumb.jpg

First coat of grey primer and second fill rubbed down ready for final primer.

The green distraction is also coming along nicely and I'll post pics later.

Other projects on the go - stripping down a 60 and 37 for repaint into Colas and an 08 for NR yellow.

Cheers,

Mick

you always make this look so simple.

Totally agree with Jaz, mine is taking ages to do, but your projects seem to happen overnight.

Where do you find the time? I haven't touched the workbench this week... :(

Jack.

Evergreen clapboard - 4031 is my usual choice for grilles. One sheet lasts years!

Mick

Look at my posting times - usually "late" in the day........... That's when I manage to find time to sneak into the shed. 6262/6263 have been slowly progressing through my "work in progress" pile.

Cheers,

Mick

Four shades of yellow.

post-408-0-46133500-1404691273_thumb.jpg

The Generator van and 08 (417) are Network Rail yellow.

60021 is mostly Colas yellow with warning yellow ends. The cabs are from 70808 with Colas yellow and Freightliner yellow ends. (Only Colas' 70801 has "normal" yellow ends, 70802-70810 carry the lighter FL yellow)

As per my previous model of 70801, the diagonal crease and small rectangular panel have been filled/removed respectively. (The Bachmann moulding is only currently correct for 70001-70006).

Hi Mick

Seeing as you love all things yellow.....

There's a fascinating vid of the NMT with mk2s and a mk1 (mentor ?) in the rake.....

Not sure I'm meant to post other peoples stuff.... If not I'll delete....

Hi Nick,

Thanks for posting that - a most unusual formation. Need to find out more...... there goes some of tonight's modelling time!

Cheers,

Mick

EDIT1: A closer look at the video and it's 975984/unknown Mk2 - probably an ex-Gatex Brake force vehicle (72612 or 72630) /975091/5981/either 9523 or 9516/977984

EDIT2: Probably 72612 as 72630 is out and about with 72631/99666

EDIT 3 - not 72612, but 72616 and the BSO is 9516.

Mentor indeed. I've posted more pics of it at Rail Live at Long Marston this year.

Apparently the NMT is going to be formed like this for up to 10 weeks as the regular coaches are out for maintenance. It's also restricted to 90mph.

Ta to Si for the info.

Cheers,

Mick
