meil
Rightly so, not in keeping, Lager was introduced, to this country in great quantity by the bigger brewers, in the 1950's as a drink for the ladies as at the time more of them were visiting pubs instead of staying at home. Just a few decades after what the BCM is supposed to represent . Not so, Allsopp's were selling Lager beers in this country in 1906.
wombatofludham
Had a few works outings to the Pie Factory. Still have a certificate somewhere to prove not only did I finish a Desperate Dan pie but also a Pud. Of course, I also have the gut as a souvenir as well. PS anyone remember the Christmas pies? A complete Turkey dinner in a pie, sprouts, turkey, stuffing, potatoes, chipolatas, the lot. Very nice it was too. RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted July 9, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 9, 2012 Hi Mark, I posted this in David Bigcheeseplant's thread about starting & finishing a project in a week : "Not sure if Black Country Blues needs this idea..... ...but, how about we (the members) build a whole rake (one each, obviously) of Airfix/Dapol 16t steel wagons & donate them ? That way we'd each have contributed to the layout, making it a real RMWeb community layout? ( Feel free to shoot this idea down if it's too wacky !)" Having read through this thread, I'm not sure this idea is necessary, what do you think ? Obviously we'd have to make the wagons to EM gauge and with bits of southern locos in... avonside1563
It would be really good to make this more of a community project Stu, we (the group) have discussed way to get more people involved. There will always be a need for more stock and our time is going to be limited for building it soon as the scenics get further on! Let us have a think about what stock we are gong to be short on and we'll come up with a few suggestions!
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted July 9, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 9, 2012 With all the information given on stock, track, signalling and the BC area I think this is already a community project!
Geoff Cook
With 2manyspams making lots off mess, with the white stuff, and followed by lots, and lots of hoovering, by Indomitable026 here are some photo's of what's been done on boards 5 & 6, some track bed and some hilly bits Track bed has also been done on boards 2, 3 & 4 but no white bits yet, and no photo's, so another messy session to be done soon by 2manyspams, and more hoovering by Indomitable026.
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted July 9, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 9, 2012 Thanks for posting those Geoff. Can only really post text where I am as there's no 3G signal where I am. Hope folk like what we've done so far. Geoff, any photos of any track placed on the board at members day.
Geoff Cook
Geoff, any photos of any track placed on the board at members day. I dont think any were taken by ourselves, certainly not by me, I went and left the camera at home after checking Friday night that the batteries were charged up! oops
RMweb Premium Mark Forrest Posted July 10, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 10, 2012 It's an interesting concept (and given the amount we have to get done to complete the project) we would be daft not to give it some consideration! I think it's important that we maintain a level of consistency between the individual vehicles and with the stock which we are working on for the project; any thoughts/suggestions on how we could do that?
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted July 10, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 10, 2012 Mark, I think that by all the contributors using the same kit (or maybe one or two kits) then the consistency would be inherent - what you'd also get is a wide variety of finishes, thus reflecting the various nature of rolling stock over the years. Obviously, the wagons would have to reach a certain level for the build and operational qualities, so some might be rejected. Stu

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted July 11, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 11, 2012 I forgot to add Opening hours of signal boxes - various dates through the years - can be useful for trip freight timings as some boxes only opened to allow the trip to "shunt the yard"
burgundy
Sounds like some of those who have been building baseboards will have to be diverted onto building bookshelves.................... Best wishes Eric

RMweb Premium Mark Forrest Posted July 12, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 12, 2012 Blimey - spotted a "name from my past" in that list. Co-author of "Diesels in the West Midlands", Geoff Dowling, was one of my professors at Birmingham Uni (BSocSc Geography & Planning, 1985-88...) RMweb Premium wagonbasher Posted July 12, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 12, 2012 awsome photo's, just hope we can do it justice in 5 metres of 4mm. that scene at Tipton is almost unrecognisable today. I was there on Tuesday and the overheads and the steel work on that roving bridge are about the only unchanged thing in that view - except the vegitation is so developed you wouldn't even know you were next to the railway. Andy York was moaning about the excess vegitation in the modern day, when considering the backscene - may have to take a bow saw with us. Old Gringo
How long was Old Gringo in make-up for ? Not long enough I reckon - and the sedative didn't work either, did it? Probably best to fast forward, or turn the sound down for that bit of the production, to save spoiling a really good video reminding us all of a super day. Thanks Chris, for the video (and for finding a couple of coherent bits out of all my waffle!). All the very best, John.
