1977joey
Some very nice modeling in this thread! Thanks Aeroken1.....pleased you like it Well Evening Guys, Well no other major work done as yet, but the signals are still being worked on. I've had to alter the semaphore on the end of Platform 1 to a small gantry so there is now a signal for trains on the centre road, as well as a ground shunt signal. I've also added these to the 2 sidings next to Platform 1 (home made colour lights). The next job is to start the new gantry for the north end of the station & create the new colour light signals... & lso Colour light signals for Platform 4 & the south end of Platform 5. These will be home made & none working A new semaphore has been added to the down line on the approach to the station (where the tunnel mouth will be once the hill is moved back), this also has a calling on arm on the post imagined for when either Platform 5 or bays 3 & 4 already have a train occupying them..... Here is the situation tonight.... An overall shot of the semaphores in the station area The new semaphore for the approaches to bay platforms 3 & 4 & through Platform 5. This has the calling on arm added under the main arm, & I am also going to make a route indicator for this signal... The signal at the end of Platform 1 now changed into a 2 signal gantry so the it controls moves out of Platform 1 & also the centre road. A ground shunt signal has also been added A class 56 waits it's signal to proceed light engine to Severn Tunnel Junction The fround shunt signals controlling movements from the sidings next to Platform 1 Cheers for now guys Mark
1977joey
Evening chaps I've now finished the signalling side of things this evening thankfully, handling the tiny parts takes it's toll after a while This is how i've gone about the colour lights using the knigtwing traffic lights..... The gantry constructed & the knightwing traffic lights which are about to be made into Railway signals One signal made, a thick piece of plastic cut & glued above the signal for the Theatre route indicator. Gel pens in red, gold & green were used to colour the lenses The signals glued onto the gantry ready to control Platform 5b (The north end) & the down goods The gantry in place at the stations north end A crude close up of A class 47 arriving from the north under the new Gantry with the daily Holyhead to Cardiff 'The Welshman/Y Cymro' A Class 101 passes the new colour lights now added to the south end of platform 5 (5b) & bay Platform 4 Another shot using the flash The south end of the station.....those Mark 2 roofs need a dusting A side on view of the signals. Cheers for now guys, Mark

1977joey
Thats a clever idea, using traffic lights! Thanks Gloucester road ... I just need to add some safety rails now to completley set them off All the best, Mark

1977joey
Looking good!! ive just started using the DCC Train-Tech colour light signals!! very impressed.... plug and play.... Thanks class 66 Afternoon chaps.... Well today is the first proper running session I've had on Shawbury since the station alterations. The ballast was only glued last night & it's all set nicely & thankfully everything appears to be working as it should. I'm still yet to move the hill with the 'Abbey' on it back to create a tunnel to hide the sharp curves beyond the signal box. Today is also the start of British Rail's summer timetable, so a few loco hauled trains vice Sprinter's can be seen.... Large logo 47535 rounds the bend past No1 signal box & runs into Platform 5 with the 13:31 London Euston to Pwllheli 'The Snowdonian' On the right can be seen the Class 37 which waits in readiness to take the train forward to the coast The Class 37 backs onto the other end of the train after the Class 47 had been detatched. The 47 will stable at Shawbury & will take a later train off the Cambrian forward to Wolverhampton The 13:25 Aberystwyth to Birmingham New Street formed of Centro liveried 150119 leading Provincial liveried sister unit 150148 approaches Platform 3. This train is running 10 minutes late so the Snowdonian had to wait for this train to clear the single line before leaving Shawbury. The 37 then gets the road & growls its way from Shawbury & heads to the coast Meanwhile a Class 101 can be seen stabled over on Platform 1, this will form the teatime working to Swansea via the heart of wales... 1977joey
Evening chaps I've decided on a big revision on my rolling stock due to the continuous problems with my class 156's going round the inner bend of my layout, no matter how much I adjust it. I've worked to hard on the layout to rip it up & start again, & simply don't have the room to model just 2nd & 3rd radius bends....would be nice if I had !!So, i'm basing my layout more in 1987/early 88...with slight modellers licence to allow me to run my Regional Railways liveried Class 101 & 150/2's...as I really love the livery & am not going to part with them.So my 156's are going, which means.....My Cardiff - Manchester (Welsh Marches) services which were supposed to be Class 156 operated are going over to Loco haulage supplemented by Class 150/2's. The new Mark 2's from Farish will be ideal for these mixed with Mark 1's...& These should operate round the layout faultlessly as do my Mark 1's.To make it more realistic I've just aquired 3 Class 150/1's in First North Western livery which i'm sending to be resprayed in original Provincial light blue livery. When they eventually get released i'm also getting a couple of the Provincial liveried Class 150/2's to make up a couple of 3 car sets with the 150/1's for my Cambrian line services. The Centro green Class 150/1's I did myself I will eventually flog on ebay, as these don't really fit in now on the era I want.So lots to be getting on with in the meantime with the Tunnel etc, & also a canopy to finish off the bottom end of the new Platform 1. Just a quick pic before I finish the post.... Shawbury in the 21st century with a First North Western service to Chester, 150144 waits at Platform 5b. This is one of the units which is off for a respray in Provincial light blue livery. Cheers for now guys Mark
1977joey
Afternoon chaps,A start has been made on moving the hill back with Shawbury 'Abbey' on it to form a tunnel to hide the bends on the track. this allows a lot more room in front of it to add more buildings, one of which i'm thinking of a 'Do it all' warehouse that the real Shrewsbury had opposite Abbey Foregate signal box in the 80's.I'll just need to re configure the terraced houses & pub etc... Here are the pics of the current situation.... Lots to keep me busy Cheers for now guys, Mark
1977joey
just another quick update to show how far I have got with the tunnel this evening....gonna have a break from it now me thinks then get back to it over the weekend Cheers, Mark

1977joey
Stil looking great i see!!! Thankyou Class66 I'm hoping to get more done to it today..... All the best, Mark
1977joey
Hi Chaps, well surprisingly not too much more done since the last post to the tunnel area, but I have got the facia for the tunnel which is a pecko kit & I have sorted the canopy for the bottom end of the new Platform (1) which was rescued from the original bay platforms, albeit shortened to suit this platform. All I need now is some more brutes for the parcels & mail trains. the Class 156's have been sold & the Cardiff - Manchester/Liverpool CrossCountry services are now in the hands of loco hauled trains supplemented by Class 150/2's. The 3 Class 150/1's I acquired in First North Western livery have been sent off to r3sprays to be resprayed into original provincial light blue livery. So this will now put Shawbury firmly in the mid to late 80's.Here's a couple of pictures taken from earlier. The area in front of the 'Abbey' & tunnel, i'm still wondering how to fill this, though my original idea of a 'Do it All' hardware store I feel would make it look a little too busy & cluttered. So watch this space on this..... This view showing the new canopy at the south end of platform 1 (1a) A class 25 is seen waiting at the end of platform 1 for the signal to shunt to pick up the parcels stock in the bay platform next to it A look at the tunnel area with a 156 replacement!! My new addition 47403 'The Geordie' bursts out the tunnel with a Cardiff to Manchester service Cheers for now guys, Mark

Removed a/c
Looks good Mark, can't wait to see the 150s in Provincial livery. Forgive my rather harsh drawing :D Tony Hart would have been proud !! What about something like this? a few back to backs (brown) grey represents the roads and the green perhaps a playground/park? By doing back to backs you wouldn't have to worry about yards, fencing, ginnels etc... Just a thought.
1977joey
Crackin' stuff as always Mark! Ian B Thanks Ian, still lots to do to with the tunnel area to keep me occupied thebritfarmer Looks good Mark, can't wait to see the 150s in Provincial livery. Thanks Scott, it'll be a few weeks before I get them back so hopefully I'll have the tunnel done & finished by then All the best, Mark
1977joey
Hi Scott, I didn't quote the original post properly to show up, I was kind of thinking of a park or green area with the terraced houses in the background, so you might be onto something there Cheers, Mark
flyingsignalman
Although I think this is a bit too early for your new period as it was taken around 1979/80 I hope this photo of a parcels unit heading north at Whittington (probably for Wrexham) is of interest. 1977joey
Although I think this is a bit too early for your new period as it was taken around 1979/80 I hope this photo of a parcels unit heading north at Whittington (probably for Wrexham) is of interest. DPUwhittingtondn001.jpg Thankyou flyingsignalman, that's an interesting pic I have been tempted by the Parcels Class 101 from Farish, I've noticed the price has been reduced with a couple of retailers so watch this space Well guys, my 156 replacements have arrived in the form of the new Farish Mark 2 coaches, I've had 7 in total & am going to rebrand a couple with Network Southeast logo's. Here are the coaches put to work today..... 47535 approaches Platform 5 with it's train of Mark 2a coaches on the 14:42 Cardiff Central to Manchester Piccadilly Meanwhile another Class 47 hauled train, this time of Mark 1 coaches has arrived at Platform 1 with the 14:49 Liverpool to Portsmouth service The Portsmouth train then departs... The area of the layout i'm still working on. I'm yet to add footpaths, gardens to the terraced houses & general detailing to this area of the layout. I've also widened the railway owned land near the tunnel mouth where i'll add some cabinets & huts etc. A Class 31 hauled Parcels train to Bristol waits to depart from Platform 1 having just been loaded. Cheers for now guys, Mark
RMweb Premium MrSimon Posted June 11, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 11, 2013 Loving the changes you've made - and the new coaches look good too (do you think they'd be easy to repaint?) Cheers Simon
