I have to say I was disappointed, and did not think it was up to the standard of previous Warner's shows.

There was no programme. Yes, a guide to the layouts is in the latest BRM, but I don't really want to tote the mag around with me and ruin it.

The lectures were poorly planned and presented, the impression I got was that the presenters would rather not be doing it. The theatre is in possibly the worst place acoustically.

Some/several? of the layouts did not live up to the "carefully chosen" hype in the pre-publicity, and some of the running was atrocious. There were of course several notable exceptions to this.

Having said that I was there from when the doors opened at 9.30 until getting on for 5.00, with just three trips to the van to let liquid out of the dog and put it into me (a different liquid!) and spent a fair bit of money, so not a bad day at all

The little show at Didcot was pretty good as usual with some quite nice layouts and a long chat with Missy. Trade 'interest' was unusual as apart from the typical purveyors of a bit of r-t-r/secondhand/aged r-t-r there were several excellent stands for the purchase of scenic and weathering materials. Shame to miss Peterborough (especially certain layouts thereat) but still a nice, and much less wearing, little day out.

Mike, you're right and you're also so lucky to have such a selection of exhibitions of quality layouts available covering many diverse interests.

The USA is a desert in comparison, no tradition and the extremely vast distances involved curtail it.

Sometimes you don't know how lucky you are and this is one of them....I wished I was back in the UK at this time.

Best, Pete.

Maybe I should get myself out of bed and drop in this afternoon since I'm within earshot?

I wish I could, it looks to be well worth the visit - I was planning to risk the new signalling and make my way over by train this morning, sadly my partner is not too good so I have to stay home and look after her and the kids, ho hum.

It was good to meet you again SM. I had my own "Tuition Zone" in the "Modelling Village" at the Didcot "world of modelling" show yesterday....;)

Definitely disappointing compared to previous shows--the lack of a free guide being just one aspect--though the most significant in my view. Seemed to be more a vehicle for advertising Warners' interests than in the past: much more space given over to these, so less space for other things, given the same area was being used.

At the admission price of £10, this show is now poor value compared to Wigan, Glasgow, York...

Some personal thoughts:

Last year the pick of the layouts and the specialist traders were all clustered in the atruim, and the main hall was rather short in that respect. This year there were a good deal fewer layouts in the atrium, though the main hall was stronger - but you can hardly suggest a room is weak on the layout side when it contains both Pempoul and Bradfield Gloucester Square

Overall I thought the layouts were rather stronger than last year. Loftholes deserves a passing mention and it should be said , firmly, that the running on Bradfield Gloucester Square was utterly flawless while I was watching it. Walmington had some very good structure work

Personally I found the leaflet guide more effective than a guidebook. The sad reality is that I don't really thumb through and read all the layout blurbs and I don't re-read showguides after the show. However I do require a map and a list of who's where, and the leaflet did the job efficiently (and without encumbering me) I know a full dress colour guide is a Better Product - but somehow I don't seem to make use of it

As far as value for money is concerned , while £10 is comparatively high for a middle sized model railway show (even if a strong one) , it's very cheap compared with any other form of entertainment. I went to a concert at the Festival Hall in the week , which cost £20 for a seat - and by no means the best seat - for less than an hour and three quarters actual music. Peterborough gave me 6 1/2 hrs entertainment. I've booked a ticket for the theatre at Stratford the evening before Warley which cost £22.75 - again not the best seats by a long way, and 3 hrs costs more than Warley + the car park ticket. I'm also acutely aware I put £30 of petrol in the tank on Tuesday and with one local trip and a round trip to Peterborough it's nearly all gone. At that point a pound more or less on the admission charge is largely irrelevant in the total scheme of things

Went today. Really impressed with Pampoul.

Whilst not my scene thought Haymarket Cross was very nice. Pen-y-Madoc also caught my eye.

A bit disappointed with the trade representation although it has to be said it was a good cross section. Perhaps the answer is that I'm at a bit of an impasse in my plans at present. Pleased to be able to see a couple of the trade stands as that has now settled some future purchases.

Think I've seen better at P'boro but since I travel over from Noriwch and meet up with a couple of friends I was determined to enjoy the day - and I did. So thanks to all. What I do regret not doing was saying hello to some fellow RWebbers - would have been good to have a met a few. Spent too much as usual but crossed a few off the shopping list. Enjoyed the layouts too.

I visted on Saturday morning with my wife and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Indeed, I thought this year was better than last which I thought was a dip on the previous shows. Difficult to pick out highlights out of so many but I was particularly taken by Walmington on Sea which I thought was exquisitely modelled (especially the line side houses and the swing bridge/river crossing) and gave a sense that the trains actually went somewhere. Managed to keep my hands firmly in my pockets except to buy two packs of Bachmann bogies for an ongoing project.

Regards,

Brian.

I thought the selection of layouts was superb - seeing the inspirational Bradfield Gloucester Square (and its flawless organisation/running) was worth the admission money alone, and I confess to getting something of a buzz seeing *that* classic village scene on Pempoul. Whilst those two were for me the standout attractions, the standard elsewhere was generally high.

The leaflet? I'm in the 'pro' camp, as I find the leaflets given elsewhere to be unnecessarily detailed and the floor plan awkward - whereas at Peterborough the simple plan on a fold-out sheet met the need and meant I didn't spend time thumbing through an A5 booklet trying to tie up plan with exhibitor list.

Thanks to all the Warners/BRM team - a thoroughly enjoyable day out, some money spent with the traders, and plenty of ideas running round my head - what more is there to say?

My wife, father in law and i attended the show on Saturday we and we really enjoyed it. It had a good balance of high quality layouts and trade support. Our favourites were Warmington and Hassell Habour Bridge. Unlike Warley your could get the view the layouts without having to queue for ages, and being crowded out. Well done to the team delivering the show.

Back now from the show. I can honestly say it has been a very good weekend indeed, even if it was a tad on the quieter side today (Sunday).

For those of us in the Tuition Zone, I can probably speak for all of us that it was a very rewarding experience indeed, so I will give my own vote of thanks to the Warners team for having it at the show.

Being sat behind a table for most of the weekend meant I wasn't able to get out with the camera as much as I'd have liked to have done, but I did manage one image of Haymarket Cross, from the operating side. Many thanks to Ian Harper (silverlink) for allowing me to do so :).

I've already posted it in my own build thread of this model, but never mind! Gilbert's new model of 60505 being given a leg stretch before delivery.

Cheers,

To add to my earlier post I do wish there were some way of identifying fellow RM Webbers - I expect I walked past quite a few ...

There usually is, but it depends on who remembered to bring their badges they got at this summer's Members' day. I did see quite a few who did, though I will hold my hand up and say that I was one of those that forgot, even though it was put where I should have reminded myself to collect it from.

Best person to speak to is Coombe Barton (John) as he kindly produced them :).

I had a great time at Peterborough today, especially as it was on my way home. I might be coming from a different angle to others as I was fitting it in on the way to Heathrow then home tomorrow morning. It was great to see models and layouts that I normally only see in the press and on here. I particularly enjoyed Bradfield, as I've been following it on here, and 1968 as I seem to have read about it a lt recently. I don't use show guides, so that's no problem, and for me the trade support was cool - back home my nearest model shop is about 3 1/2 hours away so I stocked up on the things that I wouldn't be able to get for a while. It was quiet, but that was good for me as I'm not a big fan of crowds.

Cheers

Jason

Yep, I had a really good weekend even if I was completely knackered when I got home last night. All over the weekend, until Sunday afternoon, there was a steady stream of people coming over to the demo area - I'm surprised that I've got a voice left having talked so much across the two days!

Me too Martin,

I was truly flattered by how many good folk set in front of me while I cleaned, lubricated and tested a steady stream of locos all weekend. It was a real privilege to be part of the RMweb team for the weekend.

I spent a fortune (for me) having been persuaded by paulibanger to invest in a Zimo sound chip and speaker for my forthcoming Crosti 9F together with all the signalling bits I need for Fourgig East from Wizard Models.

Next time I'll bring a flask though ;)
