RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted March 19, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 19, 2017 Mike, if you're happy with your camera taking auto exposure pics then great. You seem to succeed in getting a range of good images to post on here. If you want further info on film speed (ISO), aperture (f-number) and the effects on shutter speed, depth of field etc, send me a PM and I'll bombard you with a load of - probably boring - technobabble. Otherwise, take lots of pics at different settings and you're bound to come up with "goodies"!! Jeff
Andrew P
Sounds like your as confused as me Mike, I'm not sure my Camera is better than my old Fuji, just WISH I hadn't dropped it.
67A
Hi all, Another quiet week I'm afraid... Firstly this is a friend of mine's Class 40 which he asked me to renumber and weather for him. I pressed it into revenue earning service! 3F 43474 has been set back into the down refuge. Reduced from front line duties original Patriot 45507 'Royal Tank Corps' is on a non fitted freight working north. A trip to works would be more appropriate looking at those front steps!!! 67A
On this selection we'll see some of the loads Some heavy engineering payloads in the form of cable drums especially Heavy packing cases and pipes on rear wagon Whilst passing the station siding we notice the local engineers loading up some new machines Halted by an adverse signal the fireman takes the opportunity to stoke the firebox Patiently awaiting the off ! Brush Type 4 D1547 in the second standard livery applied which suited them very well A few views of the 47' to close... 'S not a sneaky peak, 's a Brush type 4, and I bet it's honkin'... 67A
Hi all, Weekly update is starting off with something a bit different. My mate Brian asked if I would fit some Marker lights to his Class 156, pity its DCC and obviously does not work on here but it does show what a fully up to date Dent would look like should I take leave of my senses! Next up is the recently revamped D4 'Great Gable' on its first revenue earning service. In the down direction we find a 3F hauled coke working set back into the refuge and a B1 hauled fitted freight held at the Down Home. The coke rake has had some further weathering and detailing carried out over the past few days. Designs spanning some 60 years are in each others company. The previous trains having cleared the section allow another down fitted freight through with BR Sulzer Type 2 D7645 at the head. As some followers like the range of loads here is some detail. Agricultural or Contractors equipment in the first two followed by a steel slab then a manganese steel propeller en-route to a Barrow-in-Furness shipyard. cont/...
67A
Closer view of the 'shovels' A southbound fitted freight now in the hands of an original Patriot 45507 'Royal Tank Corps' First two wagons contain timber beams suitably covered with tarpaulins. Further along the train is a selection of scrap iron. Logs, more plant and machinery and some concrete beams. Another couple of scrap loads followed by various barrels to bring up the rear. The down stopper is composed of an ex: LMS parcels 2 BR Mk1 composites and 5 6 wheeled milk tankers which will be detached at the Express Dairies plant in Appleby. The stopper has Fairburn 2-6-4T 42073 in charge while a southbound train of mineral empties worked by Stanier 8F 48154 has just exited Rise Hill tunnel. The stopper is about to depart as the empties trundle through. cont/... later on.
67A
A mixed steel load was proving hard work for the wheezing WD so Kingmoor dispatched an Ivatt Mogul to assist. Broadside view of the pair. 3F 43762 rumbles past the box with an unfitted freight. Handsome little workhorse! At long last the driver of the coke working sat in the refuge has been given the off' General views of the coke train showing the recent 'attention' to good effect. EE Type 3 D368 hauls the 4E33, a southbound cattle train. cont/...
67A
A couple more views of the cattle working 92125 (still carrying 92077's front numberplate which I have been meaning to change time and time again) is the next northbound freight working A couple more of 92125 and its coal working. Another snagging job, must paint the tablet recess and fix the engine room glass. More of the same. cont/...
67A
75062 passes the unusually busy goods siding. Busy line northbound today as a teasing EE Type charges out of Widdale tunnel We can now see its a fiitted train of fish empties heading north of the border for a refill. A few more to close the session... The reason for all the freight movements was to get each and every wagon in the fiddleyard out and touch up the brake handle ends with a dab of white paint, whether it gets noticed or not is anyone's guess. That's it guys hope you like.
RMweb Gold PeterBB Posted April 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 2, 2017 Well Mike you have certainly given us a display this weekend. Some great summaries and variety. I also liked the image of the 156 - DR and SL are both 'modern' diesel layouts and I have not run a steam loco in the last 4 years - perhaps its about time I restarted to build the home layout. Cheers, Peter

67A
Hi all, Shorter piccy show this weekend. All these shots were taken in daylight conditions with only the LED striplight on overhead. 3F 0-6-0 43474 hauls a short coal train southbound. A couple of not so obvious changes to the scene such as the two lads playing football in the yard. Not the best vantage point but a rare view of the station building, sorry for the blur. In the northbound direction we find Hughes Crab 2-6-0 42789 has just exited Widdale tunnel with an interesting coach next to the tender. Its now obvious the coach is part of a permanent way gangs ensemble evidently returning from a track renewal job. Ground level shot to highlight the recently added fence post with 'barbed wire' at the top to deter the local sheep from vaulting the walls. The P.way train passes the box and the detritus dumped by fellow track working gangs, untidy lot! Both trains rumble slowly past the box giving an opportunity to see the detailing recently applied to the hopper wagons. Another opposite side view this time looking south. The chap in the station yard seems more interested in the road roller!
67A
Here we have something a little different... Carlisle has had instruction to send three diesel shunters south on a transfer and due to their sedate pace the box bobby' has decided to set them back in the refuge siding to allow the passage of faster timetabled traffic, we are simply going to view their progress... Viewed from the coal road bridge. This view reveals the loco identities, hauling the two Drewry diesel-mechanical 0-6-0's D2125 and D2264 is English Electric diesel-electric 350bhp 0-6-0 D4192. The brakevan is attached for brewing-up when set-back. The imaginary driver takes instruction from the box. The trio+van have drawn up to the Up Home. Once the points are set on the route the trio+van is propelled into the refuge. A view from the rear as they cross the crossover. All are now drawn up at the far end of the siding to allow the crew easy access to the facilities at Dent.......what facilities there are that is! That's it guys.
RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted April 9, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 9, 2017 Enjoyed the pics, Mike. You are far more imaginative with the operational side than I'll be! Maybe I should take a while before serious running on KL2. Keep up the good work.... Jeff

67A
Hi all, Another quiet spell at Dent however we shall follow the progress of two trains as they disturb the serenity of Dentdale... From the south we initially see a diesel brake tender being propelled by BR Sulzer Type 2 D5054 at Widdale tunnel. From the north the initial view is of Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48154 exiting Rise Hill Tunnel portal. The 8F passes under the Coal Road bridge (No.96) then over Monkey Beck bridge (No.95) At the southern end we note the Type 2 is not on its own as it has sister loco D5072 in the rare two-tone livery applied to this variant. Ground level view. We remain unaware of the northbound load if any but we can now see the southbound payload is the Long Meg - Widnes Anhydrite train. A teasing view leaving us wondering still. A onetime regular working along the S&C is now but a memory. The lady on the platform seemingly looks up at the passing mineral working. Ah-Ha! Its an oil working hence the brake tender. Cont/...
67A
Another low level view of the Sulzers. 48154 is making steady progress on a rare flat section of the line. The shunters are still in the refuge awaiting a path. When is its possible to see 6 loco's at the same time at dent..............Oh there they are! A low level vista Don't ask, I have no idea why I forgot to fit a drawbar and coupling to the brake tender, don't you just hate photos! Always had a soft spot for the small Sulzers but swore I never saw a two-tone version until I found a photo I took at Carlisle...Dohhhh Arty or what. The guard on the mineral is out enjoying the view. The guard on the oil is - well who knows. Cont/...
67A
For the last 5 you are getting 10, think 'buy one get one free' The reason will hopefully become clear The 8F has just rolled onto Widdale viaduct Fishermans view A busy Monday in the Station Master's house, well its traditionally washing day isn't it. Last view of the oil train as it heads for the gloom of Rise Hill tunnel. And the very last view of this session is of the 8F and the Anhydrites. What do you think of the two picture options, letters on a postcard please that's it guys. Edited April 17, 2017 by mike61680
60091
Hi Mike My personal preference is for the second photos. The first ones have a slightly greenish tone while the second ones have a more natural colour... even possibly a slightly faded look, similar to many 1960s and 70s colour prints. I also forgot to say how really good your wagon loads looked in a series of photos you posted earlier this month. Cheers Alan
jukebox
Nice work on the photos, Mike. I prefer the second version of each. Cheers Scott
