Well as my wife works in Cheyenne I suppose I'd better catch the return working Sunday week.

BTW I loved the video of the test run in Nunn, I live about 15 miles from there and it looked like the whole town was out that night watching the train!

I'm not saying its a small town or anything :)

That chasing pack is something to see!

Makes Flying Scotsman fans look insignificant in comparison.

AND virtually everybody trackside is well behaved and standing well away from the track.

Within a few minutes of that webcam* picture they came to a stop near Riverdale, just 4 miles Short of Ogden and haven't moved since. (2¼ hours so far), now more than 2 hours behind schedule for Ogden.

*The webcam looks like it was swung around to see the trains as it is now looking more down the highway.

I was in Ogden, Utah this afternoon. Here are some pictures of Union Pacific's 844 and 4014 steam locomotives.

Nice! :) I like the Done banner too! :)

I had a search to see if there were any live feeds for the event but found nothing. No doubt Youtube will provide videos soon.

We might be just a tiny bit envious of you you know Wendell! :laugh_mini:

Well we’ll just have to settle for the HO version for now.

Paul, I was just fortunate to be here in the Salt Lake City area at this time while working a busy job as a professional truck driver. There are people from not only from across America but from many parts of the world visiting Ogden and Promontory. I am not going to make it to Promontory today(the Golden Spike event is sold out), but at least I got to see 4014 and 844 in Ogden.

Third and final instalment of our USA Big Boy / Golden Spike adventure:

Having checked into a hotel in the locale for three nights, we made our way to Ogden's Union Station

The 'Steam Meet' was set up to the south of the station, with #844 already in situ.

UP CEO Lance Fritz was amongst those making speeches and called #4014 to come into the arena

And here they are, in a homage to Promontory 1869

DSC07139.JPG.1289af75193159083ae36a2af5df4776.JPG

The inevitable cheesy photos (but not too much so)

DSC07154_LR.jpg.6da73fb9cf62190dc20892e29959407e.jpg

And then a prolonged photo opportunity, with crews on the front of the locos, Promontory style.

We went for a walk around to let the crowds subside and the locos were duly able to be photo'd unhindered (similar, it appears, to Wendell1967).

Today, had tickets for Promontory

DSC07287.JPG.dc6866b1091d111b4115e363f31dc552.JPG

Huge crowds but great to be there under cloudless skies

DSC07332.JPG.2fbbe3b0271f0048e2b1bb03ec571769.JPG

The re-enactment

DSC07357_LR.jpg.1f514a52f1fd9e88365610a1efba78f7.jpg

And then a stunning finale. Fireworks were set off (despite it being broad daylight) and - completely unexpected (to us at least) - a flight of four USAF F-35s to complete the picture. Quite a moment.

DSC07360_LR.jpg.21652eb90ea4de0126f45cd528e1b663.jpg

Nice locos but very difficult to get many decent photos due to crowds.

Hope you enjoyed the story of our visit. We're not hanging around to see the locos head back to Cheyenne so that's it ... for this visit, at least!
