Popular Post Andy Y
That road surface is incredible, it's so simple but just looks so 'right'! Is this featured in another thread somewhere? I've been slaving away line double yellow line painting on our Loftus Road layout but yours just blows it away - I like the raised texture of the double yellows and the intricate bend round the corners - have you any tips to share on how it was done? I've been using traditional painting and masking but really liking the smooth consistency and height there, would like to learn how I can do the same, really very impressive work! Thanks for that James, especially coming from someone who models the everyday so well, as you do. It was a small diorama piece for a stage-by-stage 'how to' for August's BRM (a scenery special with some urban scenery content) which shows how to create the road and pavement surfaces from cheap and easily obtained materials. The article will show how to do the cambers, kerbing, dropped pavements and kerbs, patches and potholes, sunken ironwork, road markings and signs etc with reference to a lot of supporting material which should help modellers. The yellow lines are cut (with a Silhouette Cutter in this case but could be equally well done with some basic geometry, a compass cutter and a ruler) from inkjet printed A4 adhesive labels. Similarly I'd previously tried masking (in a similar fashion to the white lines) but no yellow paints would play ball with a stencil approach to a sufficiently neat standard. 25
RMweb Premium James Makin Posted June 12, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 12, 2015 Thanks Andy, that looks truly superb! I've definitely got to try the technique for the yellow lines, just looks so effective, nice pothole as well! Will definitely be getting the next BRM 1

Waverley West
Hi Very nice photo, it gives the impression of a low evening sun catching the locomotives side and the glow on the retaining wall and trees behind. Was that your intention and how do you create it. Regards David Thanks David. Yes, it was my intention. Different parts of the layout are lit by the sun at different times of the day and year and during the summer months, the sun reaches far enough round to reach The Mound Tunnels, so if it's a sunny evening it's a good opportunity to take some photos of that part of the layout lit by the sun. It's all natural sunlight. I'm not good enough at photo editing to reproduce the effect any other way I'm afraid! Cheers Dave
RMweb Gold Popular Post RedgateModels Posted June 18, 2015 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 18, 2015 (edited) One from the cutting room floor from my recent photo shoot for BRM, only photoshoppery is the stacking of 8 different focal length shots to get it all in focus. andy stroud
Although I do like your trains, Phil, I do also really like the way you have done the ground-cover on the cutting and hillside. The way you have represented the different grasses and bushes is very realistic together with the gateway.
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted June 25, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 25, 2015 Thanks Andy Its the mix of colours and textures isn't it? Amongst visitors at the weekend was the artist Nick Trudgian who was making similar comments Largely its scatter over hanging basket liner or scenic mat - nothing too fancy Kind regards Phil

Popular Post ParkeNd
How realistic is your modelling. Not as realistic as some - but I'm prepared to have a go. N Gauge - well known for having no detail anyway.

chaz
How realistic is your modelling. Not as realistic as some - but I'm prepared to have a go. N Gauge - well known for having no detail anyway. A really convincing scene - from which the scale does not detract at all - and a low viewpoint always helps. Got any more?

CME and Bottlewasher
As we are outside, here's some outdoor 'modelling' (what we like to call 'caricature modelling'), Guinevere working hard on the gradient out of Hobbiton approaching the junction and Westwick Lodge Halt (or 'Westwick' for short as the platform isnt long enough for a full running-in-board) with a passenger train special. The Steam is real BTW, not photo-shopped Photo is the copyright of the author/photographer 2008 Edited June 28, 2015 by CME and Bottlewasher
