RMweb Gold big jim Posted April 26, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) A new addition to the fleet courtesy of a car boot sale yesterday, not something id normally go for but at £40 it wasn't staying on the stall A TTS Hornby 97 Im quite surprised by the sounds out of it, its not bad at all for the money, some sounds are generic such as the horn (which sounds the same as the TTS 40 ive heard) but its quite good fun I decided to have a bit of a play with it, detailing it up, renumbering it to something more prototypical (ie centre headcode fitted) so its going to become 97302 which is snowplough fitted, i have used a set of Heljan class 47 ploughs, painted the yellow body 'tabs' black as they are the steps on the real thing, painted the kickplates and headlight silver, fire handles red, added cantrail stripe, ohle flashes, and finally added pipes and couplings to the chassis Ive just got to add the new number '2' and thats the detailing done, then i'll give it a light weather when i set my airbrush up a some point Edited April 26, 2015 by big jim 18 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Put some of those Shawplan etched screens on it and it will really look the buisness. Then you can sell it to me....LOL. RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 17, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 17, 2015 Decided to have a couple of hours in the shed earlier as ive not been in there for a while and i wont get in there at all this coming week Thought i'd do a bit more scenery using some of the left overs from the metcalfe retaining wall kit i used for the bridge I had a load of the pillar strengthening pieces left over which i've used to make a retaining wall behind the yard by cladding them with metcalfe brick sheets I also had a few bits of card left over from the wall pieces, again clad them in metcalfe paper Almost Finished article, need to make some coping stones for the tops You cant see this from the normal viewing side so im not too bothered by the rear of the pillars being recessed, once tge coping stones are on it wont be noticable The main bulk of the wall is all on the same level so it was a simple build, the wall will however follow the contour of the incline, i started to build the rising parts of the wall but decided to call it a day at that point The longer pillars are also from the kit i used for the bridge and im cutting them down to suit as the wall rises to meet them. the other thing im thinking of adding is a roadway under the incline to access the yard office, i'll cut the foam riser away between the next 2 pillars in the above picture and add a tunnel through, only high enough for a van etc to get through but a nice focal point i recon 13 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

So this one is going to be renumbered, im going to change it to 47739 'robin of templecombe', i ordered the new numbers from railtec and nameplates from fox on thursday night via the web both of which arrived today I know the bodyshell isnt correct for 47739, (this shell has a flush headcode box at one end) but i'll detail the 'correct end' to be the outer end i'll have to change the bufferbeams to 'cut away' type as well as changing the round buffers for oval ones etc I'll give it a light underframe weather as 'robin' is normally kept quite clean The other thing i did this evening was 'name' my renumbered 66849, done without fanfare and celebration, thought about putting a set of tiny curtains up and opening them but didnt have the time! Also made a start on looking how to go about changing the couplings on my Dapol MRA wagons so i can actually use them, the original idea i had wouldnt work so i've gone with another idea if it works i'll post an update, if not its plan C 13 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 25, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 25, 2015 (edited) had an afternoon in the shed today, after a trip to the model shop for supplies i cracked on with the retaining wall first up i cut the hole for the yard entrance i then made a girder with wills vari-girder clad the sides added the girder then continued futher round the pillars go thinner towards the end due to space, the girder above the tunnel mouth is just stuck temporary until i decide how im going to do that area, the brick paper under the tunnel is just loose so i can reach the point motor thats hidden behind it next up i worked my way back the other way at this end i've dropped the wall down to track level, i'll add troughing cables near the edge, also as i get futher into detailing i'll add handrails to the edge for added interest i've added some steps up to the high level, (ive actually swapped the steps since this picture) after that lot i decided to start on the other side of the yard, at the moment the wall is flush but im going to add small pillars at the joins between the card looking from the high level track side and looking from the yard and continuing down the incline looking the other way view from the track looking towards the exit and the other way just need to work out how to make some coping stones for that lot now!! RMweb Gold big jim Posted June 1, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 1, 2015 went to put some stuff in the shed earlier and had a sneaky 10 mins! looked at the tunnel end and came up with a better idea, this is how it looks now so im going to move the girder the other way and fill in the void with some ply or the likes that will leave me a bit more room to make a station entrance/frontage maybe i then remembered i had a couple of Hornby bridge parapets that i bought for a job and couldnt use them and one at the top a piece of ply between them and i'll have a road entrance, i think it will look great once sceniced up with an extra pillar in the middle 12 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

RMweb Gold big jim Posted June 12, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 12, 2015 regards the coping stones for the wall, while i was looking for something in the garage i came across this plasticard that i had used on my old layout ideal for breaking down into single strips as coping stones started making some thin columns for the big wall too and adding the coping stones to it but the little un nicked my phone and flattened the battery so i'll have to wait til tomorrow for pics the other thing i did was see how my Dapol MRAs ran with the new couplings i added, 4 are fine but im having trouble with one derailing (which is far better than all 5 as was happening out of the box) so i'll look at that when i can this coming week also need to resolder a couple of rails on the edge of the removable section as they are ever so slightly out of alignment for some reason 10 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
