A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

Nice to see you in Somerset Tim on channel 5 demand tonight.A very good episode on FGW.

That walk out onto the Levels was just about the coldest I've ever been! Biting wind coming in straight off the Bristol Channel and whipping up quite large waves on the Sedgemoor Sea!

Didcot, Newbury and Southampton line train, very GWR! It joined the LSWR main line south of Winchester, both LSWR & GWR stations.

Something I've never really known about before. Great times.

My favourite GWR cross-country line! Had a great mix of locos over the years. I wrote up a list of some of them once: http://www.gwr.org.uk/nodns.html

Yes it's odd isn't it, the web seems so new but it's beginning to have a history. If I remember right this was one of the first photos you sent - the H44.

The size of the image says a lot about what has happened since then! Anything larger and the page download would take too long. I remember a rule of the time: Anything above 16 seconds for a page to a show, and you would loose the visitor. More like 2 seconds today!

Anyone still surfing on a hit and miss dial-up modem?

No - but pole-mounted copper wire can be a bit limiting here in da stix. I get 3.6MB on a good day, less than 1MB too often. Picture-heavy pages take ages to download then. Plus sites with ads often freeze the page until the ads - from a different source, of course - finally arrive.

Olddudders,

Try an add blocker as mentioned by Andy Y on a thread I started when I had a problem with RM Web on my on my PC not opening up. I have since downloaded ad blocking software to my laptop and tab, speeds things up a bit.

A cold but beautiful , sunny winter's day in the South Hams sees the much requested Collett Goods leave Tigley Junction with it's short train.

Looks pretty foggy to me, can't see a thing!

I can just picture it though!

Wonderful images Rob.....hang on.......

Calender checked. I was on the verge of settling down with a large port to peruse these when I realised if was in fact Saturday and not Sunday.

As a point of order can I respectfully request a warning should these type of images appear on a Saturday again.

Dashed confusing.
