Possibly a shortage of 37s?

Quote from 'End of the line' website:

The solution to a shortage of Class 37s for test train workings on the 23rd saw Colas turning out 56087 & 56113 (both COFS) to cover an overnight test train diagram between Derby and St Pancras

Not sure when they are going to london to be honest!

What should have been a nice little travel shift back from Newcastle today turned into an international rescue mission

Went pass to derby where I picked up the pair of 56s that were on the test train earlier in the week, parked in 'the slums' in Derby, somewhere I've never actually worked out of in all the years I've signed the place, interesting getting out as it's controlled by a ground frame but the main points are hand thrown, you basically get the release from the signaller who unlocks the locking mechanism you hen manually throw the points and set the signal for departure

Once up in the neck and behind another ground signal you walk back and put the signal back and throw the point lock lever back which this time round also throws the points to the correct 'locked' position! The signaller then sets the ground signal from the box, however if the points are still set towards the slums then there is an extra lever for the ground frame operator to throw that signal!

Anyway, away I went to nuneaton via Leicester with the 56s to collect an errant MMT unit, again, interesting signalling there too, I was fully expecting to have to pass a signal at danger to allow me to drop on to the unit as it would be occupying the track circuits, I did however get a position light with an X indication signifying I'd be doing a wrong direction move onto the chord line

And so onto the MMT

Brake tested and away to rugby colas depot, backed the robel into the shed and left the depot to take the 56s to WWH

End of the line, next stop market Yarborough

And back towards the mainline to wait for the road to Washwood Heath

And away to Washwood Heath, good signaller on today, stopped me on the goods and gave me the release to heartlands park from there to save my legs!

in clear and all locked up

Then the joy of waiting for 50 minutes for a taxi to arrive to take me to new st!

A few things passing by

A very desolate looking Washwood Heath yard, all closed and used to store wagons

And that was that, thankfully the taxi driver got me to new st before the last direct crewe service

73s again tomorrow (GBRf Ones this time though)

Is Washwood Heath the yard visible from the traffic jam of the M5/M6 interchange?

Bescot yard is near the M5/M6.

Washwood Heath is on the south west side of the M6, in between jn5 and jn6, only really visible from the motorway if you're in a high vehicle travelling northbound.

Cheers,

Mick

Got that bit of a job finished today

Derby

This fascinates me in Washwood Heath, the history you can see in there is amazing, unfortunately it's not for me to take pics but I thought I'd share this with you as it doesn't show anything commercially sensitive

Basically the 4ft has a narrow gaugevline laid in between the running rails, should imagine it used to go off to the stores or something for carrying components to the units they built there over the years

Even mini points!

I really should get some pics before they pull the place down

The MPVs get towed between yards when they need to be moved and a crew isn't available. They often get booked on Network Rail infrastructure services, such as 6M50, 6O26 etc. The set thats in Jim's pictures was at Westbury a couple of weeks ago so they get around a bit

Then after stamping down a load of shrubbery and moving the train forward a bit I got a better lined up shot

Then 37800 was fired up by its driver
