Jim,

Another superb set of images, thank you very much for sharing them with us! The driving itself must have been tiring enough without hopping in and out of the cab to take those lovely shots. What did it feel like opening up two 56s in tandem as Gary mentioned that they do produce a lot of traction?

Kind regards,

Jock.

Certainly shifted, i was looped at acton bridge and once i got a green to go i opened it up and hit 60 at the platform end shutting off power, similarly as ive put before i had to shut off going UP shap!

Departing acton bridge

What are the RM 325s doing.

I thought Royal Mail had abandoned the Railways

Regards

Ian

I was at Stafford the other day and a set of 3 came through.

I too thought it unusual, wait to be proved wrong.

A set of 3 run most day at 5pm past crewe heading south although on Friday I saw 90018 with a set of 3 heading south which was very nice. Sometimes a set has it's blue sidelights on. (What does that actually mean?)

I believe that there are regular services from Willesden to Shieldmuir via the WCML with calls at Warrington and also a service to Low fell via the ECML.

What a brilliant video certainly shows how much variety of traffic there is through there. The empty log flats cause a lot of turbulence ! :O Those 325 runs were evident too, presumably still running for royal mail as they still have the logos on - I don't think RM would let anyone else use trains with their markings on.

I like the photos and it's the first shot I've seen of the 92 on the sleepers in the new livery.  I think it suits them.

I saw the 92 this morning on the way to work waiting to pull the empty stock out of Euston. I must admit it looked nice although I prefer the 86 as thats more my era.

Off topic here, but just as a matter of interest, how much does Colas get paid for having a couple of class 66s hanging around outside London Bridge doing nothing for the best part of a fortnight?

No doubt the answer would be 'commercial in condfidence' - but you can guarantee that it will be enough to cover the lease costs (unless they happen to have bought them outright in which case it would probably be a similar amount).  Knowing how much I used to charge for loco hire 20 years ago it should be in at least 4 figures per week allowing for the fact that the locos are doing nothing most of the time plus, I would hope a charge for mileage and consummables.

I used to charge a daily rate based on a 10 hour day (minimum charge) plus an hourly fee for any hours in excess of the day rate excluding crewing, with a reduction for a weekly hire and i was one of the first in the field hiring locos and crews on the big railway after privytisation with at least one other operator copying my charges (except he charged for an 8 hour day because he didn't know I charged for 10 hours - guess who picked up spot hires as a result ;) ).

Hi Jim

Always enjoy the photos showing your day or night's work, thansk for posting.

Apart from the EU working time directive, are your working hours governed by something similar to tachographs that LGV drivers need to follow i.e. must take at least 45 minute break after 4 hr 30 mins driving, maximum driving time 9 hrs per day (10 hours twice a week) with maximum weekly and two-weekly hours worked?

Or do you just do the shift required?

You are goverened by hidden rules, basics are 12 hours between shifts, no more than a 12 hour shift, 5 1/2 hours maximum driving before a break etc

Its not a bad shift this one, on at 01:00 and off at 08:00, the actual driving is only from 01:30 to 04:30, the haddest bit is trying to stay awake on the train home so i dont end up in london!

Groundhog day.....

Left crewe at 00:46 and arrived into kingmoor at 03:46 so 3 hours on the nail, a non stop run last night, its 145 miles so averaged 48mph which for a 60 mph train with shap en route is pretty good!!

Kingmoor

The resident 60 had morphed into a freightliner 66 this morning
