Sorry for the odd question Jim but do colas currently have a pair of 50's on hire as a pair passed Kingsbury today ( green and NSE ) with wagons I'm sure I normally see behind a 56

56113 failed yesterday. The 50's are Boden's "Thunderbird" locos based at Washwood Heath (Boden maintain the 56's).

Cheers,

Mick

That kind of raises another question, Mick.

Who maintains the 70's, 66's and other Colas traction? Do they have their own fitters like the Colas OTM's do?

I recall seeing a job advert for Colas for a Class 70 maintenance fitter, so probably Colas themselves.

IIRC, the Colas 37's are also based out of Washwood Heath.

Hopefully Jim will confirm/deny as required!

Cheers,

Mick

5 times, still not bored of it, seen it with various actors in the lead roles so its different everytime as each actor/actress puts their own spin on the characters

(Tonight was the 2nd best performance i've seen, the best being the previous cast's final night a frw months back which will take some beating!)

well ive had a s**t end to the week, passed the course but the last 10 mins of the course left me deflated and what should have been a positive end to the week was tarred by one comment so much i now feel i've just wasted a week of my life for flip all!

then to top it off i was verbally and very nearly physically abused by a right on the train home, he tried to push on the train as people were getting off, pushing a young couple with a pram out of the way in doing so, i asked him to wait for other people to get off before he had a go at me then squaring up to me for a fight, at this point i just decided to turn away but he decided to carry on claiming "i wasnt the king of the f-ing train" at that point i just walked away and went to see the guard to request the police attend unfortunatly the guy got off at coventry so simply got away with it

had he been met by the police as planned then he would have discovered that although i am as he pointed out "not the king of the train" abusing a member of staff on duty is a very serious offence and btp come down hard on those who do it!

i really seriously hope that the next person he pushes past and has a go at is somewhat more 'fisty' than myself!

glad to be home now

Hi Jim, first time posting on the thread but I've always enjoyed following your tales. Don't get too hung up about that idiot, there's plenty of them in the world. The way I look at it when I have to deal with them at work is I've only got to deal with them the once whereas they've got to live their whole life being a plonker. It is nice when they get caught out though. I was once called a f'ing c##t by a passenger for asking him to turn off his blaring music, walked away and called for BTP, the look on his face as he was escorted off the train at the next station was priceless. You did the right thing though, unfair as it is if you were to retaliate it's you that gets in trouble.

As my old dad used to say, "There's always someone bigger" and if you're determined to go through life being an aggressive arrogant **** you've already booked your appointment.

Shame the police didn't catch up with your idiot.  They could have added trying to get on while people are getting off to the list (byelaw 10 I think)

Nice to see some pictures from around here though.

If I'd known you were coming I would have come and waved as you passed.

Shame that the Kidderminster pictures don't have the BR signal box and semaphores in them. All consigned to history and the West Midlands Signalling Centre in 2012.  The Worcester area may be quite a while before it goes though.

In the not too distant past there was coal yard at Droitwich, on the up side (the left as you look at your pictures towards the signalbox) between the junction and station complete with coal drops and a 48DS (I think) shunter.

Is the loop still in use.

Last time I went that way, about six months ago, it had sprouted a small forest.

Hope you don't mind me posting this here, I arrived in Exeter St.Davids mid afternoon and saw the platforms "swarming with cameras all pointing at this so I snapped it on my iPhone. Apologies for not being a modern image guy but still interested in traffic on the tracks whatever it is.

Hello Jim,

from reading your posts I had a mental picture of you being a really nice bloke.

This post proves I'm right!

Morons like that are to be ignored.

a few from yesterday, down to canton to do my class 60 static training, an early start from crewe, 05:55 from there to cardiff

175101 to cardiff

in canton we had a chat about the loco in the office, faults and failures etc, this was the view from it!

we then went out to have a look at the 60

56105, 70808 (with 810 and 801 out of view)

strange livery 158!

and our 'weapon of choice' 60076

DSCF0033.jpg

we had a look round and started it up etc, ran through fauults etc, we actually (accidently) put a fault on it which prevented it firing, thankfully we rectified it (with help from the fitter on site) and fired it up, a couple of lads had a go at moving it up and down the track to play with the slow speed as they have never used it (on a conventional loco)

other than that just a couple of pics of a passing HST before we headed back to the classroom and then headed for the train home

and a bit of light reading for the journey home!

off to worcester later and back via oxford to pick my van up, than a drive upto carlisle ready for my class 60 handling turn on the logs tomorrow
