Saturday 23rd. February, 2008 and 66238, 66100 & 66030 on a Margam - Eastleigh move, in advance of a weekend possession, pass a westbound 158839 at the site of the former Ely (Main Line) station............... where I started spotting in 1964, and the first loco in my book was Pannier, 3790 shunting the coal siding.

The second number was....92220, on an up fitted van train.

.

My photo.

Think I've seen 66238 before...

Immaculate 66108 runs through Eastleigh. Dated early June 1999.
Couldn't have had many miles on the clock!

Very nice . Only colour and condition I like my sheds….I remember thinking “ they’ll fit nicely with the 56/8/60s…”

in retrospect that’s like saying covid will rub shoulders nicely with a sniffle..

A few of my photos from the mid-privatisation era:

66154 with an unusual train consisting of 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' and support coach pauses at Platform 11 of York station on 26th April 2011.

Freightliner's 66515 on a Northbound coal train (remember those?) approaching Colton Junction on 11th February 2009.  This view has now disappeared under overhead lines.

Coincidentally the same loco as in the previous shot, 66515 gets the road towards the West Midlands from Derby station on 21st March 2009.

1749840748_66549Doncaster23-08-08.jpg.a6d38ca9ec2b37d2c122e6cca91cccfa.jpg

66549 crosses over the fast lines at Doncaster station with coal empties returning from one of the East Yorkshire power stations to... well, wherever coal was coming from at the time.  Taken on 23rd August 2008.

66117 rumbles through Platform 1 at Sheffield on 16th June 2010 with what I assume is a scrap metal train.

Cheers,

1645011356_DRS66SofCrewe24-01-2008.jpg.827732e0ff1d368adeed608e2a5e0055.jpg

An unidentifiable DRS 66 approaches Crewe from the South on 24th January 2008.  I can't remember exactly where this was... I just had some spare time while at Crewe, so I looked at the map and drove somewhere near the WCML.

1938973148_66614FairwaterYard19-03-08.jpg.17bd7f8a8fcf453dfa93e6c2e4e8d317.jpg

On 19th March 2008, 66614 basks in the sunshine at Fairwater Yard, Taunton, in between High Output Track Renewal shifts.  (I had permission to be there.)

66623 pulls away from Norton Fitzwarren near Taunton on 30th July 2009.  Spoil from the High Output Ballast Cleaner was (and possibly still is) being donated to the West Somerset Railway for the construction of their turning triangle here.

66161 heads North after passing under the York ring road near Skelton Junction on 22nd June 2010.  The climate and flat landscape around York was great for shots like this; I wish I'd taken more while I lived there.

Cheers,

1583257043_66189Overton06-07-09.jpg.81bb33145af652f67243beb1d83aac8a.jpg

At Overton, a few miles North of York, 66189 leads a southbound empty steel train on 6th July 2009.

66421_York_09-12-10.jpg.cc0841aad9996308433c69718c21bbec.jpg

66421 must be either new, or newly-painted as it waits for its next job at York on 9th December 2010.  This location is now transformed by the presence of the Rail Operating Centre situated where the bushes are on the left.

1773721873_66611HolgateJunctionYork25-06-09.jpg.dfd2803cfe5b5a03a563d5b69ae77e32.jpg

A short distance from the previous photo, but in very different weather, 66611 approaches Holgate Junction where the avoiding lines converge with those from York station.  Both the station roof and York Minster can be seen in the background of this photo from 25th June 2009.

66303_Milton_Keynes_11-05-2011.jpg.90c6a4959b43de3ca72da8be7e21796a.jpg

66303 passes Milton Keynes with a WCML container train on 11th May 2011.  The Fastline Freight operation and livery turned out to be short-lived.

1849994905_66617HOBCMarch29-10-09.jpg.b19f9d22f7d05f548fc18524dddd2f88.jpg

Emerging from the Autumn mist like a twee lyric from Puff the Magic Dragon, 66617 approaches a rural level crossing somewhere near March, Cambridgeshire, with the High Output Ballast Cleaner on 29th October 2009.

Cheers,

66701 delivers ex-Gatwick Express Mk2 coaches to the Great Central Railway (North) on 2nd February 2005.

66 007 - licensed to leak - trundles along the through road at Nottingham on 24th March 2009.  A poor photo but that soaked fuel tank would be fun to recreate on a model.

Freightliner 66s parked up at Midland Road depot, Leeds on 22nd July 2007.

Colas Rail 66847 heads up a rake of MFS ballast hopper wagons through Bristol Temple Meads on what the photo metadata says was 15th August 2013, although I don't know why I'd have been in Bristol that summer so I can't guarantee the date is correct.

66097 in what I recall was then the 'newfangled' DB Schenker livery at Kilmarnock on 24th October 2011.

Ex Fastline, ex DRS, now GBRf 66301 accelerates through Cooksbridge yesterday on the Up, working 6Y26 - Newhaven Marine Aggs GBRf to Woking Down Yard GBRf.

Wonder if this will be a candidate for one of GBRf’s ‘classic paint jobs’ when next up for an overhaul?

A couple of 66s at Newport today -  not the greatest pictures but the sleet was worth avoiding....

A few recent ones from early 2023 to today from me (all linked from Flickr, click to make big!)

66179 6Z30 Wapley (Yate)

Naff light but a record none the less of former Euro Cargo Rail 66179, now returned from France. Running as 6Z30 from Brentford to Severnside on this strike day, the faded and worn looking loco is seen passing Wapley near Yate.

66589 6C77 Hamstead Crossing (Marsh Benham)

66589 approaches Hamstead Crossing with a single portion on 6C77 Wembley - Merehead. With all the new wagons delivered over the last few years, class 7 Mendip serivces such as 7C77 are running more frequently as class 6.

Like blue buses...

...you don't see a Maritime engine for ages then two come along at once. 66005 'Maritime Intermodal One' and 66047 'Maritime Intermodal Two' sit side by side in the possession at Denchworth where the Up Main is being relaid. 66005 was on 6W06 Milton Jn to Hinksey (with 66169 on the rear) and 66047 was on 6W07 Milton Jn to Hinksey.

66701 6G73 Challow

66701 sits at Challow waiting instructions to move in the possession to relay the Up Main just east of here, running as 6G73 which had arrived from Westbury.

66070 6M60 Exeter Riverside

Every week 6M60 runs from Exeter to Bescot, taking Cornish china clay to the Midlands for onward movement to Cliffe Vale in Stoke, loaded in the Imerys branded JIA covered bogie hopper wagons. Unusually this week it also had 3 FIA twin set container flat wagons, which were detached at Bescot and were still there a few days later. 66070 is seen in Riverside Yard as the engine is started and the combined exhaust and low cloud are caught in the yard lights.

Taken on a Samsung S10 on Night Mode.

66085 Acton Yard

66085 with its HVO branding sits in Acton on a trainload of spoil, presumably from HS2 as most of the London area spoil trains seem to be.

66606 6A27 Keynsham

Finally from today. Running three and a half hours late, 66606 powers through Keynsham after a lengthy stay in Bristol East Depot working 6A27 East Usk Yard - Park Royal Marcon.

That service caused quite a bit of confusion around Filton and Patchway around 1030 having sat on the chord fom Patchway for some time- I saw it crawling down Filton bank at about 1100 as I made my way to Newport (from Keynsham) on my third choice train- it seemed incoming crew delays knocked on for services leaving Bristol...
