0K05 Carlisle-Crewe.

K05 is a DRS operated serviced and is usually loaded as 6K05 (or 6X05), but on occasions runs as 0K05 moving loco(s) in the same path.

This can be any of the DRS fleet of 37/66/68/88

It isn't unusual to see FL locos in the move also, but I think this is the first time that it's been four, without a DRS loco to be seen.

66501 exercises itself through Pulborough forming the 0Z67 11:32 Crawley F.Y. - Barnham on a sunny 31st October.  Not 100% sure what these runs are about, as there was one yesterday and a couple more scheduled for this week. Maybe crew training or route learning?

A well-loaded afternoon Freightliner from Wentloog to Soton Maritime approaching Westbury yesterday. Used to be a solid 70 turn, but usually a 66 nowadays.

That shot reminds me of so many trips home from uni. Waiting on westbury station looking that direction (to the right) waiting for Paddington train to come in to catch it to Plymouth. Hoping I’d timed it right to see one of the 59’s come through.

On 29th November 2023 with the temperature hovering around zero and with the overnight frost still lingering in the shadows, Freightliner 66588 leads sisters 66587 ‘AS ONE, WE CAN’ and 66623 ‘Lest We Forget’ at Colne Bridge heading towards Huddersfield, working 6M25 from Hunslet Yard to Crewe Basford Hall.

  • A bright sunny morning turned into a damp and dark November afternoon. 66545 trundles along between Frome and Westbury with Monday's 1321 Whatley - Dagenham Dock, though on this it terminated at Dawley, near Hayes & Harlington.

White loco in a snow storm ? or just checking we are paying attention ? 🙂

I have been told that the aggregate trains to Ardingly and Crawley respectively are going to be rerouted via The Coastway Line. Could this be why there is route learning on The Arun Valley Line because the Crawley bound trains are going to use the line.

That would be interesting. Makes sense as paths through London must be at a premium. I for one would be very happy if we had a few scheduled freight trains 'down the valley'.

There is a daily path for a GBRf service from Crawley to Cardiff diagrammed along the route, but as far as I know it has never run.

DRS 66428 'Carlisle Eden Mind' bringing up the rear of 6Z79, passing through Deighton on 11th December 2023, working from Crewe Coal Sidings to Leeds Balm Road, top 'n' tailing a single FNA-D with 68002 'Intrepid'.

A handful of recent ones from me over the last month or two.

66001 0Z02 Westbury

A quick portrait of the pioneer 66, 66001 on its return to Westbury on 0Z02. This was a route learning trip to Avonmouth, out and back via the Filton chord, with a trip to and from Bristol Parkway in the middle.

66003 4V45 Reading

Seen during a 10 minute wait in the platform at Reading, 66003 is at the head of 4V45 Acton - Tytherington Quarry.

66120 6V10 Acton

Sitting on Recption line 1 at Acton, 66120 is waiting relief before heading west at the head of 6V10 Cricklewood Aggregate Terminal to Westbury. The wagons then head to Whatley for reloading, hauled by Freightliner from Westbury as 6C40. The following picture shows 6M47, the loaded half of this working.

66020 6M47 Westbury Up Reception

66020 sits at signal W207 waiting for the driver to book on. The traffic comes up from Whatley as 6O21 (weirdly a Hothfield headcode, presumably using that schedule but cut short to terminate Westbury) behind a Freightliner loco. At Westbury a DB loco goes on, and the traffic goes forward as 6M47, serving either Quattro Aggregates at Acton or the DB aggregates terminal at Cricklewood as required.
