Hello Dougal,   When l was building 'Abbot's Bridge' depot 7mm, l made a few different cassettes for different locos and found 25mm x 10mm  to be right, l added a strip of plywood for the clearance for the wheels, and used 90mm x 20mm softwood for the base, hope this help you.

George.

That looks great. Out of interest what did you cut the angle with? Any suggestions for a decent make?

Grrr! I have been trying to upload a few images as I have been a busy bee lately. The first Brewery building and the wharf / dock area are finished and I turning my attention to the main brewery building come loading bay.

Sadly, all my pictures are above 1MB and can't be loaded.

Oh well.

You've probably got the software already, in MS Paint

Open your photo,  Select all,  Image,  Stretch/Scew  enter sizes 50% smaller then Image,  Attributes,  enter 50% values and you're done.

Save as and upload here.

Sadly not, I'm using an iPad and MS is not compatible. I'm experimenting with a few Apps to see if I can find a free option that works.

because folks at work might not be able to access them as a lot of companies block access to file sharing sites ....

why not use the "image editor" on the menu bar at the top of the screen?

I reduced this pic to a 1024 x 675 sized image pretty easily, admittedly on my PC, so can't vouch for how well it works on an Ipad ...

I thought that this might be a good option too, but the Image Editor which, on a PC, offers the option to download Pixlr Express PLUS to use on a mobile device won't run on an iPad! You need to download the Pixlr app via e.g. iTunes on a PC and then sync it to your iPad to install. Having done so, I find that there is no way to reduce the size of a photo except by cropping. Resolution adjustment is not available in version 1.2.1 - the only one that works on my mark 1 iPad.

Hello there,

I am still around, but not resolved the photo uploading issue just yet. At the weekend I will try the old camera and hook it up to the equally old lap top to see if I have more luck with resizing the photos.

The loading bay is done pretty much, with my first attempt at scribing bricks in DAS. The brickwork would make most builders have a seizure, but oddly enough now that it is painted and in situ, it looks right.

I have started on the warehouse extension which will be the 3rd building in the wharf area and complete the scenic break.

The water has been repainted to a muddy grey and looks much better.

The cassettes have not progressed just yet. Not because I'm avoiding them, but because I have been busy. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

Finally, I now have another shunter in the form of a Lima shunter. It was a steal on eBay ( about £20.00) and even with remotoring will be a cheap addition to my fleet.

Back soon. Put the kettle on Mrs Doyle.

Ok, some improvement with the old photo size image!

The good news is I can post pictures- hurrah!

Um....

Bad news is they only appear to be side on, so you may get a stiff neck!

This is the first warehouse. Balsa frame with DAS sculpted to represent stone. I still need to add guttering and glazing.

post-18380-0-05440300-1389273050_thumb.jpg

This is the main loading area for the brewery. Balsa frame again, with DAS sculpted for stone and brick. The roof tiles are cut up 'Weetabix' cereal packets. Again, not finished yet.

You can just see my new Lima shunter here. This is going to be improved once I have bought a few bits at the Bristol show.

This last photo is the final Brewery building. The DAS is still drying and need sanding down before I try to do more bricks.

It is starting to come together a bit now.

Finally, I can resize photos!

Prepare for a glut of poor quality, poorly lit photos!

This is a shot of the Brewery area. This is about 4 foot in total and masks the fiddle yard.

post-18380-0-09030500-1389375548_thumb.jpg

This is a shot of what can only be called, 'work in progress'. This is the opposite end of the layout.

I hope to squeeze in a decent sized factory style building and Mrs Doyle's tea emporium / provender store.

The signal box is a modified Kittle kit. I probably will not use it on the layout as it feels a bit too big. I might have a go at a more modest affair.

The green shunter in the foreground is the Lima shunter.

Just started scribing the bricks. Thousands and thousands of bricks.....

I may have overdone the rust a tad on these milk tankers.

The loading bay in the background needs some form of canopy by the bays. I still need to add a few more mortar washes to balance out the tones. This cruel close up makes the difference in tones very obvious.

More photo's!

I have re sculpted the area by the bridge support at the front of the layout. I experimented using cobblestones, but they were just awful. I have now sculpted paving slabs. post-18380-0-40124400-1390394955_thumb.jpg

I like the colour. These are a few items posed to create a simple cameo.

post-18380-0-62983600-1390394969_thumb.jpg

This is the third warehouse for the brewery. I have finished sculpting the brick work. There is still more painting/ washing to do. The roof is well under way, but I have yet to add a chimney or two. The wonky wooden chimney is just a prototype.

post-18380-0-67789900-1390394982_thumb.jpg

This is the canopy for the loading bay. This needs more rust added and further detailing. I wanted to create a run down, grotty look. It looks alright to me. What do you think?

Guess what this is?

post-18380-0-88999000-1390394994_thumb.jpg

It is part of the main bridge support / embankment. The odd combination of colours comes from different DAS used. It needs sanding down prior to scribing yet more bricks.

All in all, I am happy so far. I think my buildings look a bit basic and amateurish compared to other modeller's achievements, but for me they represent a big improvement in my modelling skills.

I chickened out of scribing the bricks and used brick embossed plasticard instead.

This the stairwell beside the brewery. This is my first attempt at making stairs. I made an advertising poster as well to bring a bit of colour.

post-18380-0-78891500-1391602693_thumb.jpg

At the edge of the embankment we have a short area of long grass.

post-18380-0-14407300-1391602724_thumb.jpg

It's just teddy bear fur with a green wash and a bit of foam added. Looks ok, but more to add yet.post-18380-0-86147600-1391602735_thumb.jpg

my newest addition to the fleet, a saddle tank! It will be painted and weathered to depict an industrial shunter. I might name it after the wife to earn a few points at home.

post-18380-0-19604600-1391602749_thumb.jpg

I decided to start on the Lima shunter. To my surprise the pancake motor runs really well, so I am going to postpone re- motoring at the moment.

post-18380-0-11221500-1391602760_thumb.jpg I have removed the moulded grills from the bonnet area. A fine mesh is temporarily placed at the front of the bonnet.post-18380-0-29357600-1391602771_thumb.jpg

These are large Oleo buffers. They come pre-assembled. I bought these from Roxey mouldings. Great service as they arrived the next day.

So, plenty to keep me out of mischief for a while,

Dougal.

I did say it would didn't I ;)

Are you going to cut the cab down to make it more prototypical?

What do you suggest? I had thought of removing the chimney and fabricating a new one at the end of the bonnet. The cab size is pretty close to my 04.

I need to fill in the odd looking holes at the rear of the cab- no idea what they are supposed to be.
