N15class
Lovely job Peter, very neat soldering skills. I've tried a slightly different approach as an experiment. I am pleased with the results. It is mostly better house keeping. Tarnishing in-between sessions is my biggest problem. I can't solve that without moving somewhere else. We may move to the coast when SWMBO retires. Just as warm but the air is a lot dryer, and always a nice cooling breeze, something we don't get here.
N15class
Paul I totally agree about still being lots of poor kits around. William at ACE seems to be reluctant to improve or update, even though he gets lots of fault input. Now this ones out the way I back to the Oakville Jubilee. Which I hope will be better, though I know it will not be purfect.
jazz
I have to agree with the above sentiments regarding some pretty rough kits on the market. But having said that I get a lot of satisfaction from making a decent model from these kits for my own pleasure. The old Gateneal kits spring to mind as some of the worst offerings although some of them were quite good. I never could figure out why the inconsistencies.
N15class
For some reason I have 4 locos that need painting. LSWR 0395, Thomas, MR 1262 and Jubilee. I decided instead of watch paint dry. I would build 3 wagons 2 from that well known auction sit and one brand new (I know which horror something new). Well they are a S&C open the new one. A sycobright open and a LNER cattle.the last 2 where bought for under £25 the pair. But a few bits missing. All easy enough to make from plasticard. The simple one. The not so easy one it needed new springs, rocking unit and end door hinge and straps. The cattle wagon is easy to see what was missing, one side only. And a bit that I broke and managed lose. The upper bars need drilling from the outside, I also made a drill bit from 0.7mm wire to drill the door side. That's it for now. Going back to painting.
N15class
Painting progressing slowly. Thomas has his out door coat on now. Just the red buffers and hanging iron, and grey for the the footplate. And of course the lining. I'm really pleased with the finish. Spending a session messing with the air needle, nozzle relationship was well worth the effort. I now feel happier to spray the jubilee green.

Hi there, here is an Agenoria Jinty I painted as Thomas for my next door neighbour's boy. He likes to come over and drive the trains on my outdoor layout. N15class
The wagons are now 4. All have either been painted or in primer. The 2 opens just need a little detailing, and the insides finishing. The cattle van is in primer and looks a lot better. And the most recent addition is a POWsides Gloscester 5 plank. It's a resin kit but is very poor. I'd been filling holes in it over about 4 weeks and adding bolt heads that were either sanded away or missing. It will be blue, and has run down transfers. A new thing for me. Should be interesting.
N15class
Well surprise surprise, the body of the 0395 is now in overall black. There is just the details painting, and of course the green lining needs doing. I am pleased with the overall finish. It took a few coats until I managed to sort out the airbrush. No frames as they have been painted and reassembled.

N15class
Here's an update to show where Thomas is today. Just needs the number painting on before a varnish is applied. Still need to do the face. No excuse now, must get it done. The chassis runs well and just needs pickups. Just noticed there's no photo editor now, and a failed upload still counts as part of the 10MB total. So only 2 pictures not the 4 I wanted.
hayfield
Lovely model and must be one of the poshest Thomas engines about
N15class
The continuation of the wagons, is well be over two post due to photos. First off is the Stevenson Clark which is just awaiting it's load. Must get some coal next time in UK. The NE cattle is also ready for its load, then the roof can be fixed. Still not sure about roof. Part two shortly. 11
N15class
Here's part two. This is the EA Stevenson, resin wagon. I had a little trouble with the POWSides Transfers. First time I've used them like this. Now it's weathered I think it will pass muster at 3 feet. Part 3 coming up. Still not enough space to get 4 photos in. 6
N15class
Finally the Syconotsobrite wagon. I think this turned out well considering, parts were missing and it cost much more than a tenner. Looks like I will have to go back to the cupboard and see what has not been weathered, and if any of the wagon kits have wheels lurking in the box as I'm right out of spoked ones. Back to painting locos. 6
jdb82
Nice work with the weathering! What do you use for your weathering? Powders, dry brush, air brush? Or a combination of all of the above?!
RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted February 11, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 11, 2019 Good to see some wagons from your workbench Pete. I don't normally like overdone wagon liveries, but that EA Stevenson design does have a certain something about it.
