Poor Old Bruce
Richard, Love the colouring and stark simplicity of the shot of 63770 - brilliant. Thanks Peter but it was more luck than judgement. Now a couple of 'Scots' on the same day. It is sobering to thinke these were taken fifty years ago! 46122 on the 17.25 to Marylebone Almost as dirty as the WDs but at least the numbers are legible and the crests visible. Peter Kazmierczak
Excellent pictures as ever Richard. As it was the school holidays, rather surprising to not see any spotters on Five Arches Bridge. Do you have anything in and around Spondon in your collection please? andyram
More stunning pictures. As someone who was born 7 years after the end of steam I wish I had a time machine.
Poor Old Bruce
Do you have anything in and around Spondon in your collection please? I do have a few somewhere Peter as I went for the Jolly Fisherman a couple of times but they may be still awaiting scanning.
Peter Kazmierczak
Though technically not now within the East Midlands region, the northern part of Lincolnshire (for our purposes) certainly is. The railways around Grimsby didn't receive the coverage they deserved, either visually or in written form. To very slightly rectify the balance, here we see one of the then new Cl.150s passing Friargate Crossing on the approach to Grimsby Town station. Peter Kazmierczak
Near the other end of the region in Kettering, an up HST prepares to depart from the station. The paintwork on the power car hasn't worn too well, with a couple of large chunks missing.
w124bob
This signalbox is now preserved at Snibston Discovery Museum. But here we see the ex-MR signalbox that once controlled the busy A50 level crossing in the centre of Coalville is its original location. As an ex Coalville 2nd man I can confirm this box had a pub at all 4 corners, as well the crossing the box also controlled the points for the "top end" exchange siding (Ellistown pit). The NCB shuffled wagons from the pit across the High st with it's manual gates into a 2 road exchange siding we would then go up with usually a pair type 1's(LM region terminology, we never referred to them as choppers) then down into Mantle Lane, no brake van required with a class 9 as it's a falling gradient towards Mantle Lane. Occasionally we would load out of there with a a solid MGR set direct to Drakelow or Rugeley. The photographer is standing with his back to the site of the former station, demolished when the loop was extended and the holding sidings added, around '76 or '77. Behind and to the left of this box was Marcroft engineering, still going strong at Stoke on Trent and now part of the DB empire.
w124bob
Approaching Knighton Junction from the Coalville line with aggregates on a misty morning in 1982, near to Berry's scrapyard turning: N36_0004.jpg Traffic was a bit sparse over that line, never got a photo in decent conditions there. This was my only other half-decent one, 56059 in 1981: batch01_0001.jpg The stone train is the Cliffe Hill to Hayes and Harlington whilst the rare shot of 56059 with an MGR train is probably heading for Rugeley power station, we occasionally went via Nuneaton if there was a problem towards Burton and Wichnor junction

Peter Kazmierczak
When we lived between Matlock and Bakewell, the National Tramway Museum (as it was then called) was but a short drive away and always worth a visit. Here on a glorious May day in 1997, Sheffield Corporation Tramways Car 74 heads away from the southern terminus.

Peter Kazmierczak
In the days when headcodes were still displayed and many diesels still had a "D" before their number, a Cl.47 rumbles along near Spondon with a down frieight.
andyram
Some great shots of the Bombardier open day. I am gutted that I was ultimately unable to make it and help out on MMRG layout. I had some nice Black 5's and Jubilees ready for show but family and house stuff got in the way. Especially upset after seeing Kolhapur was there. Not seen that since it left the G.C.
