RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted June 16, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 16, 2015 At this time, the former goods yard at Matlock contained a "Peak" and one of the prototype HST trailers too. File2049.jpg I'm sure I've got a photo somewhere of the Peak hauling a train through Darley Dale last year, but I'm blessed if I can find it at the moment. Al. Al. The Peak that's there now is D8, a class 44. So not the same one that was in that photo (which has a centre head code box). This is D8 at Rowsley a few months back:
18B
A Cl.47 arrives at Tibshelf Sidings with a rake of (the then quite new) HBA coal hoppers. Westhouse Farm sits on the hillside, having watched a procession of 3Fs, 4Fs, 8Fs, Beyer-Garretts, 9Fs, Cl.20s, Cl.25s, Peaks and Cl.47s pass on coal trains. Soon Cl.56's and later the Cl.58s and other motive power would arrive on the scene as the amount of trackwork reduced before the sidings and the line to Pleasley closed altogether. of all the 100s of pics I;ve seen of Tibshelf Sidings, I;ve never seen HBA's in there........... REC
I'm still using Spondon Sidings for Engineers traffic until next year. Had a number of trains in past 3 years.

REC
Yes Pete, only me using Spondon Sidings for any rail traffic since the closure. Couple more trains booked later this year. This pic is from 29/3/17 when we had to fetch a 'Mullet" from the previous week.
RMweb Gold highpeakman Posted April 23, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 23, 2017 (edited) Just going through a collection of old photos I have dug out of a box and found this which I think will fit in the theme. Sorry about the quality but have not had the time to spend on photoshopping it to get rid of the marks. Just thought that it may be of interest to some people perhaps. Always thought of it as "the end of the beginning" as they were all lined up ready for scrapping. I guess it is 1963? (withdrawal date). Edit: May be later as I believe they weren't actually cut up until 1968. Edited April 23, 2017 by highpeakman

I would say mid 1960's. Poor old Bruce or Peter K of this thread would probably best to answer. That area has certainly changed a lot over the years and due to change again when they remodel Derby station platforms shortly Edited April 23, 2017 by Ramrig

Indeed it is the Roundhouse. I lived in Derby between the ages of five and eleven (leaving in 1960) and, even now, can clearly remember that lovely smell of hot oil and smoke when passing the loco works and sheds on the bus over London Road bridge. It got into my blood! I used to trainspot at Spondon mentioned above. My father used to take me to the loco works each year for the works open day. Do I remember rightly that it was called a "The Horticultural Show"? By the time I took this photo though I was living in Nottingham and I am not sure what the occasion was for visiting Derby but it may have been one of the open days.

That area has certainly changed a lot over the years and due to change again when they remodel Derby station platforms shortly I don't remember them sitting at that location off hand (well it was 60 years ago!) but they spent most of their time out of general sight near the diesel test house so probably nearer to '63 than '68. Arun Sharma
Regarding post#611 10000, 10201, 10202, 10203 were all outwardly intact and parked in one line at the Derby Works open day at the end of Aug 1964. From memory, I would say that their position in post #611 was unchanged. On a related note, does anyone have photographs or information on what locos [apart from 43110] were in Looms scrapyard at Spondon on the same day as the 1964 open day? RMweb Premium Dava Posted April 10, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 10, 2018 A scene from the UKRL yard in Leicester today. The collection of 56's has been tidied up and the most presentable are on view. A couple or three 37s and 47s parked up. But what is that loco on the fenced-off demo line? Looks like the cab end of an 08 with a route indicator in very clean EWS livery! Suggestions?

Just noticed that the points are set for the train to enter Tibshelf Sidings... very rare for this type of hopper to enter Tibshelf Sidings as they weren't worked out of Sutton, Teversal, Silverhill or Pleasley? Would anyone happen to know why this train was entering Tibshelf Sidings?
