EMGS website says the showguide is available to download but every attempt to do so comes up "an error has occurred".

Just tried the EMGS website and download worked ok.

car parking is usually tight but adequate at the Leisure Centre.  We have had to pay for car parking attendants this year who should be able to assist in finding spaces.

however if there is no room we have permission to use to car park of the Cadence office block accessible from the round-a-bout next to the Leisure Centre.  an underpass provides pedestrian access back to the leisure centre

And a plea to exhibitors - after unloading please also use this car parking to free up as much car parking at the leisure centre for the paying punters.

and on a separate point we have finalised the floorplan and those with weiry legs will be pleased to know we have managed to find some room for a seating area in the main hall.  Something many of you have asked us to provide.

All is pretty much on track - make note - I must remember to organise the insurance cover tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael

I got your stewarding roster for the weekend.  Our chief steward didn't have ya email.

But key priority on Friday is to identify appropriate pub to watch the cup in on Sat evening.

Pretty much ready to rock and roll....

Hope to see loads of RM Webbers over the weekend and look forward to receiving your feedback and looking at your photos

All set up, fed and watered and raring to go.

Looks like it's going to be a good one.

Do pop by and say hello. I'll be the one behind Clevedon with a slightly confused expression, trying to work out what to do next.

If anyone has any ideas, do let me know.

Today my elder son and I visited expoEM for the first time and have to say that we thoroughly enjoyed it. Three of my favourite layouts, Diesels in the Duchy, Roundtrees Sidings and Calcutta Sidings, the latter two up until today I had not seen in the flesh, were present and great to see in action.

Great show thanks to all those involved.

Just back from EXPO EM. Had a good day. Met loads of people I have not seen for a while and had a good natter with them.

Calcutta Sidings was big.

Diesels in the Dutchy wasn't as intersting as I hoped for.

Roundtrees Sidings as a punter looked good. Let down by some fat bald bloke not wearing a blue polo shirt, and had the wrong accent. Cheers guys for letting me have a play.

Trevanna Dries was little. For a small layout it was as "interesting" to operate as Roundtrees Sidings. Cheers Dave for letting me have a play.

Best layout of the show for me was Brixcombe, GWR branch line terminus with some very nice Edwardian locomotives and rolling stock.

I attended with my two sons between 1.30 and 3pm this afternoon and we thoroughly enjoyed the show as usual. Parking was easy and the gentlemen manning the entrance were friendly and helpful. The hall was busy but not overcrowded, but it did get a bit warm after a while, even with the doors open.

There seemed to be more trade stands than usual this year, but that wasn't a negative point. I never cease to be amazed at what's available these days. If only I had the time and money to make use of some of it !!

Not having too many layouts is a good thing for me, as I have a chance to spend a reasonable amount of time at each one, rather than rushing round to see everything in the time I have available. All the layouts were of an excellent standard and my favourites were Roundtrees Sidings and Great Bardfield. But I have to say that I was a little disappointed with Calcutter Sidings and Diesels in the Duchy. Nothing major, and it may be that I turned up at the wrong times. Both layouts looked great and the locomotives and rolling stock did too. But Calcutter Sidings seemed to be a big empty space. A class 37 with 18 wagons on tow looks very impressive going by, but a few more wagons in the sidings and perhaps a bit of marshalling with more than 2 wagons would have been nice. And every train on Diesels in the Duchy seemed to be run at a very slow snails pace 'just because we can'. There seemed to be little variation in speed, with even light engines crawling around slowly. It just didn't seem to reflect the real world.

Anyway, on a more positive note, I really liked the Metro trains on Roundtrees Sidings, as I haven't seen them modelled before. All in all a great show and I'm already looking forward to next year!!

Cheers,

Calcutta Sidings was big.

Yes and really too big. For me it just looked like one enormous test track and after waiting what seemed like an age for one long train to pass there was little to occupy the mind until the next one. All that glorious trackwork with so little actually running. I returned to it several times during the morning, well you could hardly miss it, and each time a long wait was rewarded with just one passing long train (a bit like the prototype maybe).

Unfortunately, it did overwhelm the show. Some good layouts but they did take some finding - something was not quite right with the show layout this year. I was standing for some considerable time watching Brixcombe and was jostled and shoved by a constant stream of folk trying to get past the AG stand and others. Also though I can understand and approve of provision of some seating, in this case they seemed to be placed ready for some lecture and took valuable central space from the layouts (room for at least 2 more there).

Finally one other small gripe with the organisation of prior entry queues. Arriving early to acquire an early car parking spot (success) I found myself close (approx 20th) to the front of the queue. After being directed to obtain a ticket (good) the first 50 or so were moved down a side corridor. We were then joined on the back of the ensuing scrum once the doors opened. Only a small delay, but very poor queue management, next time I'll stand my ground and ignore the stewards?

Still it was a good show, and although Railex will get a bigger spend next weekend I did manage to see what I came to see and buy what I needed.

I've just got back from Bracknell having spent 4 hours at this year's expoEM.

I found it easy to access, car parking was good, I had a nice cup of coffee, the guide had track plans (just to keep Kenton happy!), the stewards were helpful and the normal array of specialist traders were tempting the catch on my wallet to expose those hard earned notes!

There were some very nice layouts, my favourites being Roundtrees Sidings, Brixcombe and Sutton Dock.  The demonstrations were as friendly and informative as you would normally associate with an expoEM or Scaleforum type of event.  However, I'm not sure why, but for me, the atmosphere was not as good as in previous years.  Maybe it was having a massive flat mainline 'test track' taking up a large chunk of the floor space?  Scale length trains racing around reminded me of my youth with my Hornby 'Duchess of Montrose' hurtling around the oval of 3-rail tinplate track pinned down on a 6 x 4 board with the 3 coaches behind hanging on for dear life!

Sorry, but despite some excellent infrastructure modelling, in particular the road over bridge, it didn't do much for me I'm afraid as there just wasn't enough to hold my attention.  I imagine that exhibiting Calcutta Sidings involves a lot of logistical planning as well as expense?  As such it really needs to do more to engage with and entertain the paying public.

I'm now looking forward to Railex next weekend.
