stewartingram
Nice photos of Edinburgh Waverley, but somehow they just didn't seem quite as realistic as the ones in that other Waverley thread....am I alone in this? Stewart

RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted November 4, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 4, 2014 Interesting in C3489. Modellers are always told that the rails should be straight through the crossings. No-one told BR.

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted November 4, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 4, 2014 Hi, Dave. Excellent photo's tonight. The first one, C16794, of Aberdour and 150208 passing through to Edinburgh on April 24th, 1992, is showing quite a gap between the footsteps of the unit and the platform, which I think would be frowned upon in this day and age! Photo' J3964, of Guard Bridge Piers, of River Eden bridge is a fascinating view, and I think is one of those very modellable things. Please keep the photo's coming, All the best, Market65. RMweb Premium keefer Posted November 5, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 5, 2014 Love the pic of the 101 at burntisland - just wondering how the links is completely deserted on a sunny august day! Quite often there would be a funfair and even if there wasn't, the links and beach would be packed. Great to see pics from my neck of the woods - thank you! RMweb Gold DaveF Posted November 5, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 5, 2014 Great to see kids on bikes in among the track panels in the air and the crossing deck missing. In the first photo the child with the bike is being escorted across the temporary crossing, but it is very near the crane. Although Blyth has around 36,000 residents it only has four roads in and out of the town, and two of those merge just outside Blyth so it was thought desirable to at least maintain a crossing for pedestrians during the work. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted November 5, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 5, 2014 Hi, Dave. I'm loving the permanent way work photo's tonight. I see that 37 093 has a modified cantrail grill arrangement, which I don't think I've seen on a 37 before. Interesting to see those cranes in action lifting the track. At one of our local level crossings in Beverley, there is, currently, ongoing work there, but it, of course, involves present day equipment and working practices. Please keep the photo's coming, All the best, Market65.

Waverley47708
For reasons unknown and not understood my attempt to "Reply quoting this post" in 1326 and 1327 did not work, so all it appears that i have done is Reply with the original but my additional words have been missed out. This may have seemed an odd thing to do. Anyway what I was trying to say was, re the comments about Guard Bridge being modellable - I was sure i saw a part finished layout of the bridge using 3D printing at Model Rail Scotland a few years ago, but that I could not remember who was building it. Regarding the pictures of Waverley I was getting very excited. I had been going back through the most recent postings in reverse order and once I had got past the horrible Spintery things in the Kingdom of Fife I was delighted to see some shots of Waverley in the mid 80s and earlier. I am modelling it at home in 1985/6, I note that in the shot of the 101 the ballast between the tracks is red, on the other side the shot of Lady Di it is grey. Must make a mental note of that. It's something I noticed when I was working on the scans, including trying to remove some of the colour casts to put them on here. I am fairly sure that the colours are reasonably accurate, but am always wary of using old photos as a sole source of colour information, I know just how much colours can change on a slide over time, especially certain brands of film. I've had a quick look at other images of Waverley from the web and it does appear that in general the colour was much greyer before electrification, but different photos suggest different shades of grey and red at different times. I wonder if at various times the ballast was "topped up" with whatever colour stone happened to be in favour at the time. David

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted November 6, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 6, 2014 Hi, Dave. I find that I'm in complete agreement with New Haven Neil about J005, the photo' of the 4F at Stanton Gate, July, 1952. It is simply superb, and I'm so glad that your Dad took that wonderful photo'. I also like J071 of WD 90164 at Pye Bridge, October, 1963. How great it is to see the WD blowing off steam like that! Some really wonderful photo's tonight. great central
J1758 you wouldn't be able to park there now, almost a constant stream of traffic. Parking would cause chaos! RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted November 6, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 6, 2014 The WD is the best shot ... just look at that lovely signal behind it, with two splitting distants, if only the steam wasn't obscuring it's mate on the other line. (Actually I enjoy all of Daves photos !)
