Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s from around Gamston. J4990, of 47523, on the 13.10 Kings Cross to Leeds and Bradford service in October, 1975, is a impressive three quarter shot of the 47.

The black and white photo’s, with one in colour, of Grantham, are a superb and historical selection. JVol4036, of A3, 60053, Sansovino, light engine, in c1950, is a delightful photo’ of the A3 from the rear.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

C1585 will be 55013 (or 9013) The Black Watch, as the only Scottish Regiment on a single line without a crest in 1974.

I'm going to challenge you on that one, Andrew. I think that it has got a crest and I think that it's 4. That nameplate looks too long to be anything else, to me. However, 4 was in works for the second half of that month, so it depends upon the date of the shot. 😀

JVol4036; is the A3 in blue livery?

If so, that is an unusual colour shot, I do't remember seeing many others

Martyn

It is in blue with black and white lining and the coaches appear stil to be in teak livery.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s at Haworth on the Keighley and Worth Valley, from 1969 to 1975. C686, of Manning Wardle, Sir Berkeley, and Barclay, Harlaxton, in August, 1971, is a superb photo’ of the two locomotives.

The photo’s of Carlisle, with one photo’ from 1986, and the rest from 1987, are a superb selection. J8812, of 08808 on a down transfer cement train, and 31 120, in April, 1987, being an excellent photo’ of both locomotives.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Can't quite make out the rear coaches but The Clansman often had a mix of most Marks of stock - Mk1, 2, 2 a/c and 3.

Except for the Summer and Winter 1986 timetables, when it was briefly upgraded to an all-Mk3 set and became a portion of a standard 110mph Euston/Glasgow working each way, the Inverness portion joining/detaching at Carstairs.

Intriguing that it appears to have reverted to a 100mph Mk2 set, its more what I'd expect for 1985 or 1987 than 1986.

Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of firstly the Blyth trackbed of the line to the staiths, and then Blyth power station, and the west staiths. C6807, at Blyth West staiths, with 08747, on the 16th April, 1985, is a well composed shot with much of interest in the busy scene.

The photo’s of Brockley Whins (formerly Boldon Colliery) are a fascinating selection. The first photo’ is an excellent shot of a Class 101, on a down Sunderland to Newcastle service, on the 23rd June, 1984. The unit is perfectly framed by the footbridge.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Great pictures David,  wonder why some bloke is hanging out of the window of that DMU. That would be enough to cancel a railtour now

That October 77 train behind Leander was the third and final attempt for S15 No.841 "Greene King" to actually complete its railtour duties, this time failing miserably at Ipswich after being "helped" from Manningtree by a Class 31, as seen in this awful instamatic shot of it emerging from Ipswich tunnel that morning.....

841-151077.jpg.d6633f8cf3fa3b3fd0747dffae9dbfdc.jpg

The S15 was removed at Ipswich and the 31 carried on alone.  It failed on both its booked trips in 1976 as well, though it did manage Manningtree-March on one of them!

I was at Manningtree that morning and then drove to Ipswich.  By the time I got there the S15 was being shunted into a siding.  I remember that Dad rang me that evening to say he'd had a good day at Chinley, how had the S15 got on so I was able to tell him.

Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of the Yorkshire Dales Railway at Embsay in 1972, 1983 and 1984. J3029, of Avonside, Fred, in August, 1972, is a delightful portrait shot by your Dad.

The photo’s at Chinley North Junction, on the Midland Railway's line from Sheffield to Manchester, on the 15th October, 1977, are a superb set. J5828, of class 46, 46011, on a Manchester to Parkeston Quay service, is an excellent composition with the Peak clearly accelerating.

With warmest regards,

Rob.
