RMweb Premium keefer Posted March 11 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11 (edited) On disused-stations.org but there's an entry for Felling: http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/f/felling_third/index.shtml In preparation for the Metro, Felling & Pelaw stations were closed 5/11/79 and Heworth (midway between them) was opened as an interchange between the Metro and BR's Sunderland line services. Felling Metro station (on the site of the NER station) was then (re-)opened on 15/11/81 but with no interchange with BR. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 11 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 11 Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Market Overton in 1972 to 1975 during the short preservation era. C1019, of Bass Charrington No 5, in July, 1972, with GER Saloon No. 1 and the NER saloon, is a splendid photo’, and the GER saloon makes an excellent centre of the photo’. The photo’s of Heworth in August, 1985, are a superb selection. The last photo’ of two T&W Metros is a delightful composition of the two units going about their everyday work. With warmest regards, Rob.

Or was it just that they were on the longer distance services? Jonathan The BT RBDe4/4 sets dated from 1982 so were still quite new. The SBB RBe4/4 railcars were built 1959-66. The (then) new SBB Kolibri RBDe4/4 sets were still being built, the prototypes were 1984, the production series were 1987 -90 so were still quite scarce in 1988. The BT sets were not used on the longer distance services they then shared with SBB and SOB (i.e. Luzern to Romanshorn etc), they were always loco hauled with BT Re4/4, SOB Re4/4iii and SBB Re4/4ii locos, usually having 5 coaches. That was approaching the limit on the SOB 1in20 gradients. Note: The old SBB RBe4/4 railcars were powerful (2700bhp), they were just about the same as a BR Classs 47 (2580bhp), for comparison a BR Class 304 emu had just over 800 bhp. The RBe4/4s are also some 50 tonnes lighter...

RMweb Gold RFS Posted March 13 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 13 Hi Dave - like the bridge pictures. In J4188 it's a BR Standard EPB in the picture - either 2 or 4-car version. I grew up using this line and the 4-SUBs had gone by the late 1950s, being replaced by EPB stock.
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 13 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 13 Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Glasgow Central on the 2nd March, 1984. C6413, of 86103, on a Glasgow to Parkeston Quay service, The European, is a lovely portrait shot of the locomotive. The photo’s of the Southern in London are a fascinating selection. The last photo’ of Waterloo Junction, with a 4CEP on a Charing Cross to Hastings service, and a 4EPB on a Dartford to Charing Cross service, in March, 1975, is full of atmosphere. I wonder if the Drury Tea And Coffee Company Limited is still in existence. I guess not with all that has happened over the years.
