Mike Storey
I grew up thinking that all trains were Hastings line diesels. Why has no one produced a model? I can't think of a better DMU for DCC sound. I remember them making more noise that a Paxman Valenta, and as they were slugs you could enjoy the noise much longer. Ahhh the sound of them pulling away from Tunbridge Wells Central station uphill through a tunnel with the sound thundering off the brickwork about 3 cm from the coaches.... They have! Mr_Tilt
I've painted the roof and started some body work repairs so it's on the long road to recovery! Cheers Shane I was remiss in NOT mentioning Shane's work on Hastings Coach, so sorry Shane. He's been the sole 'workforce' on the coach for a long time, ever since I was sidelined from doing anything all that physical in 2012 due to pneumonia. We'll need a lot more than Shane to do much more though. As for models of Hastings line vehicles I'd imagine it would be possible to convert a BR Mk1 in some way or another. The body is totally flat sided so it'd be relatively easy to cut and file new styrene sides etc. Says he who's NEVER done anything like that in 00 before...... Mr_Tilt
They have! See www.britanniapacific.co.uk I just had a look at that site, very impressive work, but pretty pricey. I see they do a model of 'Lab 9 Hydra', the Cravens parcels car that lived at the RTC for many years, and was used once to ferry a new Mk 3 tilt pack out to Hastings Coach when we were testing on the Styall line. Later it was converted to 50% hydrostatic transmission and the chief engineer on the job was Nick Breary, who'd started off in Tilt Development in APD. Mike Storey
I just had a look at that site, very impressive work, but pretty pricey. Not pricey when you consider it is a 6 car RTR in a very niche market. I will bag one immediately I have the readies....I believe you can order them for less as a ready painted kit. Or, if your painting and lining skills are up to it, buy one of Charlie's (DC Kits) excellent kits. If choosing a kit, I would strongly suggest going for a Replica Railways motorised chassis rather than the Tenshodo or Black Beetle motors - I think Replica are soon to make a shorter version available which should be suitable. Mr_Tilt
I wonder if they'd sell me just a Buffet Car on its own, then I could convert it into Lab 4 as it was. We're drifting WELL off thread here, maybe we should start a 'Modelling Departmentals' thread, but maybe there is one already. We're drifting WELL off thread here, maybe we should start a 'Modelling Departmentals' thread, but maybe there is one already. Apologies for even more OT. Hi Kit, There's a few individual modellers threads related to modelling test trains, but not a specialist group. Bob at Oversetts Models does quite a few red/blue models and (shameless plug) I do loads of yellow stuff. Usual disclaimer - there are lots more test train threads out there also. Cheers, Mick
RMweb Premium Steve Purves Posted September 30, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 30, 2014 I would be keen to see a departmentals subforrm... everything together in one place...
BR(S)
Not the APT-E but thought these pictures of an APT-P being dragged by a Class 25 were worth posting for rarity value: http://www.prestonstation.org.uk/photoarchive/displayimage.php?album=17&pid=80#top_display_media http://www.prestonstation.org.uk/photoarchive/displayimage.php?album=17&pid=81#top_display_media

I was discussing Lab 4 at the weekend with a fellow modeller, I did say the Lab 4 is on the list to do as a brass kit. It's quite straight forward. I know your somewhere towards the end of developing the APT one but it sounds like there is a lot more you are already working on

But I'll look forward to seeing and trying to build one if you go into production on it, having it already etched would save a lot of conversion work in the VIP Compartment area I'm sure.

So far I have Lab 26, HST-E (due to be replaced next year by v2) and the APT-P. This will be the next piece of work to be completed. Part done is the PoP train and a Procor80 car carrier. On the list but not yet started is Lab 4, Lab 25 Decapod and Mentor. No dates for completion, they will be done when they're done! modelpara
I agree that they will be done when they are done! Are you planning on setting up commercially (even if as a small business on the side)?
Wolf27
No plans for any commercial venture but never say never! Depends on demand really. Cheers Shane

Mr_Tilt
I've always fancied an N gauge pop train... The mind BOGGLES! Shane's OO gauge POP-Train is a spider's web of etched girders etc. Goodness knows how complex an N Gauge version would be. Mind you one would look good, albeit a trifle bizarre, on my N Gauge American layout.
RMweb Premium Steve Purves Posted October 1, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2014 I think with an N gauge version you could get away with less detail, I imagine using an etch for the framework a tad overscale of couse... add in a bit of an impressionist eye... Wolf27
I've always fancied an N gauge pop train... If only someone was daft enough to consider it! It's not difficult if you have done the ground work;-) Cheers Shane
