2014 RHTT season

Recommended Posts

Network Rail might have a few more problems in the South West suburbs after this morning. An MPV caught fire just outside Epsom.

I have a link but do not know how to put it on here. For anyone that can manage it, it is on the Get Surrey website, complete with photo.

66717 and 66720 on the 3W91 Tonbridge West Yard to Tonbridge West yard via Bognor, Preston Park and Norwood Junction.

Sadly the Arun valley line runs through Pulborough pretty much south to north, so at this time of year anything heading north is coming out of the sun. That said, I'm fairly pleased with the effect this picture has...although it would have been nicer with the semaphore signal still in place!

66717 lead the train on this leg (there is a lot of reversing on this diagram).

Somewhere under the grot and grime on 66720 is a rather colourful livery!

I was in Cormwall this weekend and my good friend D820 advised me that a RHTT was visiting the Falmouth branch today however I missed it as it was running @120 minutes early. I did get some photos of 150 101 at Docks station which was working one of the branch trains today.

I think D820 has some photos taken and my well post them here

Also at Gatwick, but today...

Today's 3W91 saw a change in motive power. 73201 and 73204 73207* were caught by chance whilst I was changing trains. I saw them later in the day heading north just as my train was pulling into Pulborough; had my train not slowed down between Billingshurst and Pulborough I would have managed a picture with 73204 leading.

* I thought the number said 73204 (it was a little grimy), but it looks like 73204 has been morphed into one of the new 'super' 73s. 73207 looks to be the only 73/2 in LLB, so I suspect this was the loco in question...

More from the Southern region RHTTs...

Waiting for my connection to London Bridge at East Croydon, I heard the chime telling passengers to stand away from the platform edge as something was not going to stop. Out came the camera, and past duly went RHTT stalwarts 73207 and 73201.

The art of timing, as well as my new friend Realtime Trains, I was able to catch the return journey, also at East Croydon.

73201 leads the train into platform 6.

My journey home was punctuated by a stop at Crawley to see the other RHTT pass. I believe this was the class 66-hauled service over the last few days; however today another pair of 73s were entrusted.

It was a pity that this shot is a little blurred...the light was starting to fade, and the weather was dull (actually starting to rain at this time). 73107 is the lead loco.

I believe 73119 was the rear loco.

It is interesting to see these trains in operation (the Arun valley line has not had a regular freight/engineers train since the end of the daily Three Bridges - Eastleigh engineers train in the early 90s. Also interesting is the use of top-and-tail locos when there are a number of MPVs sitting around at Horsham yard...as can be seen below (picture taken yesterday).

Note the class 70s in the background - see the class 70 thread for more details. The MPVs do get some use, one passed me the other night operating south along the Arun valley.

Only just joined up to this site, here are a couple of shots I got of the RHTT Stowmarket to Stowmarket trains this winter.

First up on the 29th of October are 57310 and 303 at the picturesque Wymondham Station.

Then on the 4th of November were 57008 and Network Rail Yellow 57306 seen leaving Wymondham towards Norwich.

Finally, 57009 and 57008 rumble past the level crossing outside Wymondham on the 11th of November.
