coachmann
Very nice too. I hadn't realized they were branded as restuarant cars. Do you know if they so branded in early BR days too?

Harris book Gresley Coaches lists some as branded inc above number in 1934 . cheers Edited September 28, 2011 by micklner
micklner
This has been inspired by Graeme Kings conversion of Bachmanns A2 to a Thompson A2/3. I have used his thread as an inspiration for this conversion on my Bachmann A2 to A2/2 Wolf of Badenoch using a Hornby A4 Cab area and Tender and Graemes front end resin parts. His thread is here http://www.lner.info...-t2443s825.html A4 Cab fitted into the A2 boiler and metal removed from the A2 chassis to allow it to fit. I have removed the washout plugs and mudholes as they appear much to big and or wrong shape. The Wolf needs three mudholes on both sides and the washout plugs are in a slightly different position as well. Reversing cover removed and smoothed flat. Cab to be blended into the boiler next. I decided to do the cab area first before anything mechanical to ensure all is flat and square on the original body mountings. davidw
Looking good Mick. I'm not sure if the DJH kit or this will be the easier. D
micklner
As far as I know the DJH kit doesnt cover the LNER version anyway ? As you can see its the V cab version as used on the original LNER boiler. I believe the DJH version only covers the BR version with the cut off to the front of the V ? The only hard part maybe fitting new valve gear using the Comet V2 parts time will tell !!

micknich2003
Mick, I don't have a spare crank, but if you get stuck I may be able to make you one. I would of course need a dimensioned sketch. Mick.
micklner
Thanks for the offer .I wouldnt expect you to go to so much trouble. I can purchase a new set of the valve gear and cylinders from Bachmann, sadly they wont sell single items , if no one has a spare available ? thanks again

micklner
The Wolf ready for paint. Nothing is screwed down just been tested to ensure it goes around curves, which I am please it does first time The resin front frames can now be fitted and the Footplate Oil Lubricators. Valve Gear was much easier than expected. Due to my clumsiness I managed to break one return crank which has now been replaced. This was due to a rivet being too short. I also never made the new cut in the wheel boss wide enough to alow the crank to face left. As a result the tiny pins on the rear of the crank broke off when the retaining screw was tightened. Cylinders Ensure you slot the top of the slidebar deep enough. I didnt as a result the Cylinders wouldnt lay correctly. Once filed deep enough no problem. Bachmann A H Peppercorn now with correctly painted Handrails and Sand fillers. Etched work plates added and finished in Satin Varnish to get rid of the awful original shiny finish.

S.A.C Martin
AWESOME. Well done Mick - I think I need to get my brain, money and tools in gear to make my own now, no excuses. Dare I say that it looks better than any kit built A2/2?

coachmann
Mmmm interesting if you have photos to prove it. I wonder if this was a Cowlairs variation seeing as this works painted your loco....
micklner
No idea re Cowlairs one thing they did do was to round the corner of the bottom lining on the cab on the Firebox side only . I have never read anything else re their practices. However A.H Peppercorn was a Doncaster engine. There are excellent photos of both locos in this type of livery in East Coast Pacifics by GW Sharpe and East Coast Pacifics by P Townsend Edited November 13, 2011 by micklner
