Evening all,

Just in from an evening spent in the garage, finally doing some work on the layout due out at Wells. Things didn't go quite to plan as I ended up making a few amendments......Frankly, it's going to be  damn close.

Revised track plan looks more interesting, visually and operationally.

or possibly Lamb Regis

Hi Paul,

It was my intention to build Lamb Regis after I built Mutton. Mutton, as long term readers of this waffle may recall was inspired by Combpyne.

Here's the blurb I used to hand out at shows when I was out with Mutton.

Great minds, Paul, great minds.

A few more images. Pretty rubbish but taken to check viewing angles. I do check these things, honest.

I'm finally starting to get a feel for it.

Looking good Rob.

You can certainly see from your snaps you've managed to achieve that sense of space and openness.

Nicely done!

Cheers,

Hi Mark,

The scenic section is a bit longer ( just over 4'6" ) but narrower by 1cm. I'm struggling to get past this stage to be honest but once I do I'll be a lot happier. The engine shed is probably the largest structure I've used to date on all the layouts. Much agonising over it but I think it works. It also seems to balance with the platform/ buildingsxat the other end.  I'm now torn between adding a few trees as per Ewe or going flat and open. I'll have a better idea once I start on the embankments etc which may be lower than first thought.

As uou can tell, I really am making this up as I go and sadly,  it shows.....but, as I mentioned above, I do feel I'm finally starting to get into it.

Leading on from Mutton's handout, here's the front page from that for Bleat Wharf.

Morning all,

Whilst there are no 'plans' today, I'm hoping to get a bit of modelling in with the main focus being in the general direction of adding said DAS around the engine shed and then hopefully measuring and siting it. That will be timewise, the most consuming. Anything after that is a bonus.

Tomorrow sees me working on someone else's layout, Saturday working in the shop and Sunday, potentially, I'm of to Expo EM at Bracknell.

No, I'm not thinking of going EM but it looks like a good show with a few hard to get to traders and it's "only up the road". Or....do I just work on the layout instead........?

Oh...oh ......and do I order some trees and other green stuff  from our Polish friends......?

Yes order some trees and bushes even if just pinned in place temporary it will make a real difference. I like the waisted baseboard shape. I did one like that myself never got completed for health reasons.

ExpoEM rarely disappoints

Two Sheep Lane (you did say it was project double ewe) looks to be developing nicely.

Looking good Rob! Who is the station building from?

Also like the use of the scenecraft wooden shed. My roundy roundy train set type layout also uses this and I feel it suits the pre-grouping theme well.

Excuse the horrible attempt at a backscene!

I see what you mean about the size but personally I think there's something quite appealing about a shed that dwarfs the engines it serves. I suppose it also works well as a scenic break.

(That's your peckett 560 now in its new home)

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses!

I'm going on Sunday, always go if I can. Doing some stewarding this year for a couple of hours. First time I've helped at a large show.

Thanks all.

More time on the layout today. Engine shed end now DASed and formers for the embankment cut and I'm starting to add these in. The bay is now wired but not finally laid as I need to finish the platform and lay that first, then finalise the bay line.

Frankly, I don't feel as if I have time to do expo EM but I think it will do me good so looking like I will be going on Sunday as working Saturday. I'm hoping to get there for doors open and I have a short list.

Perhaps a little too distressed?

Never mind EM, what about Italian HO , you already have the shunters, and it would have to be Pecora of course, though a tad cheesy . Or French HO for a change? The station /layout would then of course be Mouton ...

Love the  station building by the way,

Paul

Hi Paul,

No plans for the Italian locos. I am considering moving them on to be honest. I have 3 Lima Expert Gr 851s and a Rivarossi Gr 835. I'm not so sure about the Kof ii or the Badoni which are just delightful. I mean the steam locos are lovely as well........As you can tell, mind is made up......NOT...

Hi, Will. Are the Pesky Pecketts on a different part of the roundy roundy or is that a developing cameo layout ?

Handy to see your wooden engine shed in situ. Mine's tricky to visualise with the layout in it's current state. It was bought second hand and not quite as described but I can get around the odd blemish that it came with.

The station building I'm using on Project W  is a  Hornby RTP Butterly waiting room, same as that destined for the Mid Suffolk project, Flockfield. Flockfield's  was acquired in a bit of a sorry state.

Hi Rob, it's a new layout, now in development. I'm thinking part NER, part freelance industrial layout. It was originally intended as a 009 layout for running quarry hunslets but the scope grew and grew. I blame it on my shunter addiction - the growing fleet of industrials meant it was the only sensible thing to do.

The clapboard waiting room definitely gives a nice SER feel, even if the location is kept vague. I may have to steal that idea in future!

Hi Will,

Indeed. All my layouts have been built because of either a loco or a particular building. Glad to see I'm not the only one !

Yes, the building is pretty similar to some I've seen. Like those on the former SER, this one could gain a canopy.
