RMweb Gold Popular Post NHY 581 Posted January 10, 2015 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 10, 2015 (edited) Looking at the date of when I began this thread, some six years ago, a lot has happened . A summary to open with; This thread hopefully records, in an admittedly haphazard fashion, how my modelling has evolved since a practical return to the hobby on 2015. A lifelong interest in railways, real and model, a bit of a hiatus, an abandoned large loft layout and a light bulb moment realising the potential of a Swedish shelf. Four layouts later, (with work, as of Feb 2021, under way on two more) I'd discovered how much fun exhibitions could be and made numerous new friends. In addition, all four of those layouts have appeared in the model railway press, thereby achieving an ambition held since I was a teenager. ( A while ago now) My apologies then for this being a bit of a jumble to navigate but should you chose to dip in then I am grateful you did. I do hope you enjoy yourself and find something of use along the way. A few photos which I hope provide a taste of these four layouts and what is to come. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 10, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2015 Definitely like that - oh and the trains aren't bad either, quite as tasteful as her delectable self (I wonder if she realises she has groupies on RMweb - especially as a certain RMweb member - who does not frequent this thread I think - lives not to far from her?)

Trains&armour
In no small way due to ANTB, a Devon location is envisaged, with lots of greenery and a bit of water. You'll be needing Rhino's then....
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted January 10, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2015 Looks like this will be fun. Can't say Devon holds much interest for me, too far east, but best wishes all the same.

BG John
The Bristol and Exeter Railway operated the Somerset Central when it was broad gauge. So you can run trains operated by a company that became part of the GWR, and then the Western Region, over part of what later became the S&D. You just need to go further back in time by a century or so .

Coombe Barton
From Tony Kingdom's Ashburton Branch book, page 70 Yealmpton to Modbury and Kingsbridge Kingsbridge to Torcross and Dartmouth Kingsbrige to Salcombe Extension of Totnes Quay via Dittisham to Dartmouth Extension of Ashburton as a diversionary route to Exeter as part of a Plymouth-Exeter scheme. And one I found on the web - Wembury. http://wemburyhistory.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Wembury-Dock-final.pdf 3

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted January 10, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2015 Why not do something a bit different? - Goods only (passenger services withdrawn perhaps) - Former through route (like one suggested by Coombe Barton above), but now truncated beyond your location - Industrial adjunct (with it's own loco) Would you like the full sausage coverage on this thread, by the way, or just the 5 minute version?

westerner
It's always good to see someone doing a western layout. By the way my layout is based on the premise that the line from Kingsbridge to Dartmouth and then on to Torbay was built.
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted January 10, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2015 And talking of Jennifer http://www.steamlocomotive.info/vlocomotive.cfm?Display=4684 Couldn't pull the skin off a limp rice pudding, that one, when working on the WSR in 1981... Many pieces of ballast were crushed on Washford Bank, in an attempt to get her and her train to the top... Or http://www.lovefood.com/guide/recipes/18192/sausage-parsnip-and-onion-roast-recipe Oh yes please, very nice, but I fear that CTMK will not permit the onions... such a shame! lmsforever
Oh Matron, now if you put those pictures on the info panel for the layout it would probably cause crowd control problems plus you should have Palethorpes wagons on the branch!
