List of Layouts

7mm scale

Nouvion’, by Devonbelle. Paul has built a lovely layout featuring the station at 'Nouvion' as it surely would have been under SNCB. Look out for Rene’s Café and other features from the comedy show ‘Allo Allo! We can’t guarantee that the operator won’t also be wearing stripy shirts and wearing a beret!

4mm Scale

‘Diddington’ by Wiggoforgold. Just to prove that the Captain doesn’t really dislike things ‘LNER!’ - followers of RMWeb will be familiar with Alex Warren’s fabulous OO gauge E.R. layout - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77944-diddington-1960s-fenland/

‘Juniper Hill’ – by 46444. Mark’s highly atmospheric micro layout based on an ironstone line is coming to Taunton. And what’s more, it will be physically linked to ‘Diddington’ for a bit of through running action! Unfortunately Mark himself can’t attend, but will be leaving ‘Juniper Hill’ in Alex’s care.

‘Shepherds’ – by Stubby47. What can I say? Here is the latest creation from one of the most well-known characters of RMWeb and a regular supporter of our Taunton events, as Stu takes a departure from running the modular layout set up and brings his latest (and full size!) OO layout, based on the station on the GWR Chacewater to Newquay branch. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/56535-shepherds-halt-the-true-story-of-shepherds-station/

‘Tormouth Quay’ – by Devonseasider. Graham is bringing his very atmospheric and very nicely-observed OO quayside line, set in the 1950s/60s, which some of you will undoubtedly have seen at various shows.

Acacia Avenue – by Mudmagnet. Another treat - Richard is bringing his latest BR-era creation, as documented in his popular layout thread here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77086-acacia-avenue-br-parcels-and-stabling/

‘Cashmores’ – by Marc Smith – where would the Taunton event be without our very own ‘English Electric Welshman?’ We are delighted to welcome him back to Taunton again with another of his superb creations - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/58024-cashmores-the-next-layout/

‘Portwey’ – by Julian Andrews. Julian has succeeded in building an exquisite and compact micro layout, which has received well-deserved praise on his RMWeb thread – http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/81305-portwey/

‘The Modular Layout’ – once again the small hall will be dominated by those Maestros of Modular Merriment, led this year by the steely resolve of Mike ‘The Stationmaster’, who so kindly stepped in at short notice to manage the project. This year features some more new modular sections, and a new fiddle yard, plus the return of some of the popular favourites.

2mm scale

Embankment Road – by ewsjo. This very nicely-observed model built by Jo Alder and based on Plymouth Laira depot is our only 2mm layout this year but is an absolute corker and really captures the feel of Laira. It is set in the period from 2007 to the present day - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/20276-embankment-road-trsmd/

Displays and demonstrators

Weathering – by Pugsley. Martin will take you through what’s required to produce superbly weathered locos and rolling stock, with helpful hints and tips to achieve excellent results. He is also hoping that he will thereby be able to escape kitchen duties this year…(although it’s not true that his pinny has shrunk in the wash!)

Soldering and etched kit construction – by Mozzer. Brian returns with his soldering iron to Taunton to show us how it should be done. I’m sure Brian will be only to happy to discuss any commissions anyone may have, too.

How to use a small lathe – by Brian Harrap. How we missed ‘The Baron’ last year, when he absented himself to go messing about in very small boats on the Stover Canal near Newton Abbot!  :P  This year he’s bringing his lathe demonstration that proved so popular at Scaleforum last September - http://www.scalefour.org/scaleforum/2013/aroundtheshow/slideshow.html#IMG_3547   No doubt he’ll expect a free pasty in exchange…!

David Brandreth will be bringing a display and publicity material for the popular Missenden Modellers breaks - http://www.missendenrailwaymodellers.org.uk/

British Railway Modelling – our friends at Warners will be attending the event with a stand and all the latest news - https://www.model-railways-live.co.uk/Magazine/

Kernow Model Railway Centre- Chris Trerise of KMRC will again be attending with a display of current and future special/limited edition models - http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/

Retail therapy

Dave Harding of The Model Shop, Exeter, will be back with us again this year, with his usual range of R-T-R items and other bits and pieces. Why not try giving him a call in advance of the event, he’s happy to bring items up for ‘special orders’ –check out his website here - http://www.trainsandtrack.co.uk/

Simon Castens of The Titfield Thunderbolt bookshop will again be attending with a selection of the latest railway titles. His website can be found here -http://www.titfield.co.uk/

Catering

The Ladies of the RMWeb catering team will again be working hard in the kitchens to keep us all fed and watered. We are anticipating the usual selection of delicious pasties, home made cakes and other refreshments, including some new cake recipes especially developed for 2014! (testing these has been a real ordeal, as I’m sure you can all understand…!  :D )

Any profits arising from the catering operation and any other aspect of the Members Day will again be donated to The Railway Children charity.

The 'Saturday Event'

On Saturday 26th April we have arranged the Drivers Experience event on the West Somerset Railway - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/84598-driver-experience-event-for-rmweb-members-on-the-wsr-saturday-26th-april-2014/

I can also confirm that Taunton MRG have once again agreed to open their clubroom for as from 1700 to 1900 hrs on the Saturday, with the usual warm and friendly welcome. ‘Bath Green Park’ should again be up and running this year.

This year we will return to The Cross Keys, Norton Fitzwarren http://www.all-inns.co.uk/pub/the-cross-keyswhere I have booked a table (party name = 'RMWeb'). I will be posting details of the evening menu soon, and I would ask everyone coming for the evening meal to be sure to do the following:

- inform me that you are coming by PM (but I don’t need to know what you are eating!)

- choose your meal from the menu and inform the pub of your meal choices (ensure that you mention that you are at the table reserved for the RMWeb party)

Well, that's it for now. My apologies that this has taken a mite longer to get posted than usual, but as most of you will know, I've been rather distracted in the

last few weeks by 'other events' elsewhere on the big railway!

Edit 1 - update to include reference to 10800 'plastic cutting machine' demonstration, Missenden Modellers display and the WSR driver experience event.

Edit 2 - Rod Cameron (10800) demo of plastic cutting machine removed from list, as Rod unfortunately can't make it due to family illness

I can almost guarantee that if he brings Yvette Carte-Blanche ( the Gorgeous Vikki Michelle) with him - you'll be mobbed with more visitors than you can cope with

Once again the Captain, despite having more important things to do, has brought together a cracking line-up. Those in the know will be making the pilgrimage to SWAG for one of the highlights of the calendar. :)

Well done Sir.

As a (hopeful) newbie to this event I have a probably silly question. The original post states 'open to RM members and guests.

What 'proof of membership' is required?

I am at Stalag Minehead (aka Butlins) that weekend and have managed to obtain a days parole so hope to attend

You have to some dressed as your avatar; I'm OK and CK just has to put some wellies on, Stubby's coming as a teapot.

Failing that we'll just trust you.
