  1. Thank you; much appreciated - for some reason I haven't seen that in the books I have on the class...
  2. Two interesting shots of 299 - I must admit I haven't seen any 40's (especially in BR blue) without the 'D' prefix or full BR number (40099); was this common? David
  3. I hadn't seen this thread until I started my own about Class 40's today and someone pointed it out! Excellent pics and resources; I'll repost the other bits from my thread shortly... David
  4. Thanks chaps! I think my idea was to start some sort of resource for all things 40 - I haven't seen P C M's thread so I'll go and look, but nothing came up in the search box. I'm always looking for North Wales Coast examples, so thank you for this; very useful. David
  5. There didn't seem to be a dedicated topic for 'Whistlers' anywhere so I thought I'd start one! I was wondering if anyone had any pictures they would like to share of the class during the 3 decades these behemoths were in service and on into preservation, and also anecdotally which model best represents them in any given scale (although that might be best placed in the Modelling Musings...thread) I don't have any of my own as I didn't possess a camera during the crucial time period, so I'm relying on those of you who were suitably 'tooled up' at that time! Over to you! David Edit: this has now been brought under the original 40 thread...!!
  6. Heljan 7mm Class 40's... mmmmmmmmm...

If you think there's even a remote chance of you wanting one do it now! No point kicking yourself when they're all gone! (like I did with the blue 33 - dammit!)

  8. Nando's do a version of mushy peas with some spice or other in them called 'Macho peas' - oh dear...
  9. Yodel delivered my Hattons package to my work address at 20:43 last night, signed for by Joanne; thing is, we were shut then and no-one here is called Joanne!!

Are you sure you don't have a colleague who's called 'Joanne' out of hours?

  11. HaHa! I'm only living here though; my nationality is Welsh ( at least it would be if the Welsh Assembly had its way...!!) David
  12. In which case we (in Britain) should all be called Europeans then... let's see who's the first to agree to using that title...!! David
  13. 'Accidently' downloaded a Tamiya magazine, and am suddenly getting very inspired by the kits therein - things have improved so much since the 70's...hmmm...!!

These chaps really know how to create sharp, accurate models at good prices, don't they; shame they don't 'do' railway stuff...!!

I'd imagine that a number of Tamiya's 1:48 military vehicle kits might have been repurposed as On30 "critters".

Also, I believe that some of the Mig Jiminez stuff has a rather good reputation (deservedly so, too) ... .

While I think of it, some US forum sites (FreeRails, RR Line - On30 Line) include a lot of repurposed military kits - both 1:48 and 1:35 (even if not always used to represent stuff in the same scale as the kits).

I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 Unimodels "Gaz AAA" (or similar) kits finding their way into an On30 Wismar railbus - or a Tamiya bulldozer being turned into a "shopbuilt" loco.

  14. Well, the control panel works brilliantly; just have to connect it up to some track now :P

  15. Excellent work; looks just the job... David
  16. Fascinating story; my Sister-in-law lives in Mississauga and we visited in 1997 - no idea that had happened as part of the town's history; I would have gone for a look at the site if I had known (although I guess there wouldn't have been much to see then...) David
  17. Might be good to put some labels on as to where everything will be, as it all just looks like a huge country carpark at the moment... David
  18. Car passed it's MOT again; Toyota Corolla done 116k no worries... :D

That's nothing. My old BMW went 28 years without failing the MoT. It was only this year's one where it came a cropper, so I sold it to a restoration workshop in Rotherhithe....

Three years ago I was given (well you wouldn't buy one would you!) a Nissan Primera with 280k on the clock. Now up to 401k and still refuses to die!

      Any news David?

  22. I honestly thought the first photo was one of the real thing for reference, and had to look again...excellent work and top-notch modelling on here; I love the trees and vegetation - so hard to get right but you seem to have cracked it as they create the perfect backdrop to the stock... So sad I can't make Warley; any chance of you appearing at Ally Pally...? David
