  1. Another stunning GWR layout set in the 'thirties, utterly charming! Great to see such beautiful modelling, thanks for posting the pictures. All the best, Keith
  2. It's not all pontificating, I've managed to make some progress on the turntable when I get a mo... It's a Dapol kit, partly built, I need to finish it off by adding the sides and walkway fencing. I used an old cake stand as the base as the diameter is just right. Once finished it will slot into a hole made in the baseboard. It's a turntable style more suited to the likes of Guildford or Weymouth as far as I can tell from old photographs but it'll do for my planned loco yard. It feels like I am making just a little progress on the build. Cheers, Keith
  3. Nearly another year on, of playing trains and accumulating stock and stuff, and sketching how things might look... But slightly in abeyance because a house move is possible in the not too distant future. Cue more playing trains, planning and procrastination! With the passage of time since I started this project I've rediscovered my youthful interests in the LMS and rather than just backdate my Spencer Park plank I've taken the decision to place half of the loft layout in North Midlands territory, sometime in the 1930s. The revised plan is an attempt to accommodate these varied interests! All the best, Keith
  4. Now that's what I call a track plan! Nice work, love the colour coded legend. Hope all goes well with the build. Cheers, Keith
  5. This is such an inspiring layout, scenery and rolling stock look fantastic - the hatted man on the seat on the platform is one of many small details that really makes this such a lovely bit of period modelling. Marvellous stuff. Thanks for posting the pics, and please keep them coming! cheers, Keith
  6. A very nice job on those boards, looking good. All the best with the build. Cheers, Keith
  7. On unbuilt roadside tramways there was this discussion on one in Somerset which piqued my interest http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/113785-steam-tramways-rural-great-britain-ireland/?p=2400694 Cheers, Keith
  8. my effort... it actually goes quite well but won't win any prizes for looks! cheers, Keith
  9. Some inf on the BBC website here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-39116615 And http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-39114195 Cheers, Keith
  10. Blue small yellow panel. All the best, Keith
  11. Gardeners questiontime, making me feel better about our scruffy back garden, apparently it's better for wildlife, insects, birds and stuff

  12. Goose IPA, and because it's Saturday, two bottles... :-) Cheers, Keith
  13. Excellent service from Bure Valley Models - I placed an online order Thursday night, then an email arrived first thing Friday morning reporting the goods were packed and shipped (1st class recorded), and lo, Saturday morning Royal Mail deliver me a package: Even better, the contents, all well-packed in a sturdy box, a Bachmann LMS Compound, which was only £75, an absolute bargain, and three wagons, also each reduced. Marvellous stuff! cheers, Keith
  14. Great to see the video, thanks for posting, loco looks lovely, and Rails has the best deal for this model as far as I can tell, with free postage... :-) Cheers, Keith
  15. Hi there, yes I can recommend Smallbrook kits, I built a Gn15 kit http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/93928-gn15/?p=1712188 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/95847-smallbrook-harlequin-gn15/?p=1798687 Went together well. Let down only by my gluing and painting! I'm now looking at the Smallbrook 4mm kits for LBSC carriages and wagons, but the chap's narrow gauge range is I think impressive and reasonably priced. All the best, Keith
  16. that's it - I want one!! those photos have just swung it for me. I'll have to have twin running lines, one LMS and one GWR... or somehow add in a branch line. all the best, Keith
  17. Very interesting find, I've tracked down some further inf here http://www.entlang-der-gleise.de/Feldbahnen/TorfWolfsbruchermoor.html This site records the gauge of the line as 60cm http://achristo.homepage.t-online.de/Ex2006.htm Cheers, Keith
  18. Great pics. Fantastic, very many thanks Alex, what a beauty, that's me sold. All the best, Keith
  19. Lovely stuff, that trackwork looks excellent. I could be tempted by interwar GWR myself! All the best, Keith
  20. excellent, many thanks, that is good news re the LMS version (as far as I am concerned!). all the best, Keith
  21. Cheers Alex, that would be great. It's a fine looking model from the photos I've seen so far. Looking at BRM the review does state that the 'level of rivet detail on the prototype... is well captured... particularly on the tender '. Now,I'm no rivet counter (no disrespect to those who are) but I do like the look of a rivetted tender...! All the best, Keith
  22. Thanks, yes, that's exactly what I was expecting the tender to be like on the LMS version, as shown also in the BRM review, but not the Railway Modeller review, which made me curious. From comments above it seems these locos also ran with flush-rivetted tenders, something I'd not spotted in photos of the locos in LMS days such as those in Essery and Jenkinson's book on the standard designs. All the best, Keith
  23. I was so looking forward to this release. I'm a bit put off now by some of the criticisms identified so far, especially the steam pipes and large screw on the coupling rod, but I might live with these, it's the lack of rivet detail on the tender that puts me off most from purchasing one. The picture I had seen a while back did show rivet lines on the tender of the LMS liveried example http://www.hattons.co.uk/60880/Bachmann_Branchline_31_690_Class_5P4F_Stanier_Mogul_2_6_0_2965_in_LMS_lined_black/StockDetail.aspx Without these it looks a bit flat? What do others think? At £135 I'm looking for perfection in Mogul form! Cheers, Keith
  24. I got this message today from Rails of Sheffield : 'New Hornby 603 Squadron on the way. Due in stock on Friday. This Locomotive is now sold out at Hornby so we are expecting our stocks to sell out fast. We have limited stocks left to sell so place your order now to reserve your loco for immediate dispatch on arrival.' Priced at £144.50 Cheers, Keith
  25. What's with all this   weirdness, am I just getting old?
