  1. Is there a list somewhere of what disc headcodes were used ? thanks Roger
  2. Will this be able to be sent to New Zealand ? We aren’t on the list of countries on the checkout sadly….. thanks Roger
  3. Thanks for the replies, I’ll see what’s available locally and maybe try a couple of these types. roger
  4. Hi all I am in the planning stages of a new portable layout. The layout will be continuous run, O gauge with 3 straight boards on the long sides and 3 curved boards at each end. I will be using my NCE 5 amp procab controller, probably used wired rather than the radio link. The plan is to have the controller base station on one of the long sides, wiring in each direction but not connected at the ends. I can think of two options for the power bus: 1. link each board with plugs and sockets, 2. have a separate bus wire with plugs off it into each board. I have two questions, is the separate bus wire a good idea ? To me it gets around relying on multiple plug and socket connections to supply power but does need splices in the cable to attach plug leads. What sort of plug and socket type would be best for a portable layout ? I’m currently leaning toward the DC power type but have no experience here. thanks for any suggestions Roger
  5. A friend of mine shortened one and painted it grey to turn it into a Blue Circle Cement van. I’ll see if I can find a picture. Roger

  9. Hi all I have an older class 121 unit with a 6 pin DCC socket which I’ve never used, and last night I tried fitting a secondhand chip to it. it all seemed to work except for the head code lights. If the unit is going to the right the head code lights at both ends light up, the right hand marker lights are white and left hand ones red. If going to the left the marker lights are white on the left, red on the right and the head code lights don’t work at all. I tried swapping the wires at the left hand end but that had the effect of lighting the second led at the left end as well as the right hand one, left direction had the left led dimly lit. is there a fault in the wiring, or what is happening. I’ve added a table below to make slightly more sense. thanks for any insights Roger
  10. Thanks for the replies, I’ll start having a look at available small trailers Roger
  11. Hi all as I contemplate selling my Ford Mondeo station wagon / estate and replacing with a smaller car I am wondering how sensible it is to transport an exhibition layout in a trailer. Given the extra vibration and general movement I presume that the layout would have to be firmly fixed and covered. is this a good idea or not ? thanks for any feedback Roger

Hi all May I ask if the collective wisdom considers this wound worthy of a visit to the V E T ? I’ve only just noticed it, a bit of fur missing and open wound, but Timmy is his usual purry self so I’m thinking we would just keep an eye it. Roger
  14. Waiting in NZ. Hopefully it won’t be like GT3 which made two trips as the courier wouldn’t deliver to our P.O. Box so sent it back, yet they accepted the address when it was sent….. Roger
  15. Morning yes I got a leader email at 8:48 NZ time dated 18 February 2021….. Roger

  17. So how does only charging to 80% work with a hybrid or PHEV ? Im looking at a Skoda superb PHEV, does anyone have any experience with that vehicle ? thanks Roger
  18. We use a barrier like this, a square of ply and length of 25mm square timber screwed on each time with some nylon string between. A box of ply and mail bag of poles take up no space at all. The layout is a modular one, never assembled in the same order…. here in NZ I’ve never seen a lean on barrier used, lots of variations on the rope with poles or pole sticking out from the layout. Roger
  19. Hi all Another 4 of these arrived in NZ this week which look great. One thing that I’m not sure about is the coupling. On some of the wagons the hook was pulled out and wouldn’t retract. Looking underneath the coupling spring retaining loop is not letting the coupling pull right back, if it is manoeuvred downwards the coupling pulls back into place. Has anyone any solution to this ? I’ve thought of fitting a piece of wire to hold the loop down so it doesn’t hit the end of the pocket. Thanks Roger
  20. Hi all I have been using my HM6000 with a 1 Amp plug pack on my OO layout and generally been pleased with it. Double heading with two Bachman class 20s is fine but two Heljan class 28s trips the short circuit protection. Would changing to a 4 Amp power supply solve this problem ? I also find that the circuit trips when running older Hornby diesels through a PECO single slip, the wheel shorts as it crosses the crossing, is there a way to delay the short circuit protection or set it higher ? thanks Roger
  21. Hi all I have updated my spreadsheet of Bulleid locos made by Hornby up to last years catalogue. Hopefully it all makes sense, I have a "number" of the locos so if details of the model are wanted then I may be able to help. Roger Bulleid Pacifics by Hornby.xlsx
  22. Hi David I used the digitrains ZS47ASL sound on a Zimo MX699KS with a SP40X20X10 speaker and am quite happy with it all. I like the braking function and an happy with the sounds. I extended the fan wires and took out the underneath switch. The lighting wires are different colours at least. The pick up wires are red on one side and black on the other but the motor wires need to be red and black, if you see what I mean. The fan circuit board needed to be moved as it was directly above the decoder and contacted it when reassembled. The only hassle was bits falling off the model… Roger
