Just an observation of my own habits. When I go to London I normally drive. It’s cheaper, suits my circumstances and more convenient (and faster in most cases but speed - and this is an important point - isn’t an issue for me). When I have traveled to London by train recently then I’ve gone to Litchfield or Tamworth to take advantage of significantly cheaper fares… again speed isn’t my priority. I can’t see HS2 being cheaper so I doubt I’ll be changing my habits any time soon…. I’m now going to reveal the ultimate irony…. …..East Midlands Parkway is walking distance away (approximately 2 miles) and I’ve not used EMP to go to London for nearly 10 years! I admit my circumstances are particular to me and I doubt there are many others that share them but my point about price is, I feel, important. It doesn’t matter how much extra capacity you make if the majority of passengers don’t change their habits because it’s too expensive. Those Euston stoppers will still be crowded by those seeking a bargain and they will be joined by those who can’t afford high speed rail. Just a thought. Griff

Piloting situations perhaps? On the SR 33s and 73s often displayed a red and a white blind when so engaged in the same way as steam locos on piloting duties had a red and white lamps on display. Griff

I’m pleased for you. It obviously works for you but it’s obvious it doesn’t work for some and I’m not pay £70 for something they may or may not display adverts… this is the only feature I’m interested in as I have no use for anything else…. Besides as long as the video box thing keeps appearing in the same place my thumb has learnt where to be to be able click on the X quick enough. It’s no big deal for the amount of time I use the site. Griff

If I may offer a suggestion? A reliable (and dare I say) foolproof method of isolating in these circumstances is having the feed to the lifting section via a plug and and short lead to a socket on the open end. It’s then only ever possible to have power on the lifting section when it’s down. Griff

It’s environmentally costly to accelerate and maintain high speeds with heavy ‘high performance’ trains and its pointless when the cities they are serving along the trans Pennine corridor are so close together.... besides most commuters would, I’m sure, prefer somewhere comfortable to sit rather than saving 5 minutes getting across the middle of England at great cost. For what it’s worth.... I’d go budget and (dare I say) design clever. Locos less than £100. Replicate a mix of popular choices. However, make sure the models are dimensionally correct and run well. Think Lima 47 body on a Vitrains chassis or Hachette mk1s. That way you will attract a range of punters. Some will be happy as it is but others may bring them up to a their desired standard.

Will ‘Smoke and Steam’ be part of the collection? I’m presuming this has a Warner’s connection? Griff
