So what did Cybermen say, back in the day, when their teddy fell out the pram? ;) Griff

I am amazed at the prices some old diesels are now fetching.

I’m not sure I agree. I’ve certainly seen pretty good jobs made of these Hornby relics and the 25 is still well respected. What you say is true of most Lima offerings but the 33 was definitely not their best. Griff -
Great…. Build it there then As others have pointed out. It merely off set against others. It was illustrated quite well on a recent radio phone in. A caller enquired why their energy bill was going up because of the rise in gas prices. They had a, so called ‘green’, tariff that supplied energy from environmentally sound sources. They were disappointed to learn the energy market doesn’t work like that; there is only so much of it and (this is my point) much of it has foul and polluting origins … some make it sound clean…but it just gets dirtier somewhere else. I can’t help but think that’s a “robbing Peter to pay Paul’ strategy. More likely it’s down to ‘off setting’ …. You can do anything you like, providing you plant a tree in Patagonia and put up a ‘save the whale’ poster. Griff

Steve's 4mm workbench. Sound at last!

Regarding fading ….. I’ve had good results tinting matt varnish with light grey. It sprays on better than thin paint which tends to create a wash effect highlighting parts that do not require highlights. Griff -
I would have used the phrase….. cutting the cloth. Griff

Not quite…. What your suggesting is changing rather than improving. A rather better president would be the occasion when Bachmann replaced the EPB bodies because of incorrect numbering. There is nothing wrong with the CEP but there was something definitely wrong with the VEP. Griff

You’d think that the editor would have ‘edited’ this lack of understanding to the bin. Goodness knows what the writer would think if he saw Akeman Street UKF depot back in the day. Griff -
You missed NOT…. lol oh I see Griff

Presumably not the same bagpipe. 62 being an up stopper from Salisbury and the other the Kenny Belle. Nice pics Grff

Indeed …. “Probably from Bachman” …. statically most modellers probably do have a pannier from Bachman as they produce the most types in the most common scale. It doesn’t mean others can’t call for one one by other manufacturers or in other scales in an open discussion. oh what was that about snarky comments? I apologise for mine in advance Griff

I agree…. But it can also be a shocking surcharge. I often go the click and collect route these days….. With the added advantage that there’s always someone in at my local coop Griff

There are bargains to be had on eBay …. You just need to know the value of the things you’re buying. Don’t get involved in bidding wars and keep an eye out for expensive postage. Griff

A fine collection of models…. but do you run them together? Griff

The definitive (3/4)7 ….. delete at appropriate;) ….. More buses? Bristol VR? Griff

That would be maths …. The metaphor was more about it being worth it…. If you want it and like it then it’s value for money. Griff

The trouble is…. I think Grey Goose is overpriced and overrated …. Prefer Polish vodka myself Griff

It might also be a case of what you plan on doing with it? (Regauging) Griff

Midland Main Line Electrification
griffgriff replied to 96701's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
I see it was clarified at the beginning of the month…. but it was reported earlier in the year on the BBC I believe. oops…. Edit I got my wires crossed ….. …. It has been reported (BBC/Rushcliffe Borough Council) that Ratcliffe could be the location for a prototype fusion reactor (yes that old chestnut) not very portable at all. Back on topic….. Griff -
Midland Main Line Electrification
griffgriff replied to 96701's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
I should say I’m all for electrification and I was dismayed when it was put on the back burner but it’s justification seams to be on service improvement rather than environmental reasons which I find puzzling. East Midlands Parkway is, of course, next to a power station site…. Word is that once the coal burning is finished power will be generated by burning rubbish and with a new experimental portable nuclear power plant…. Now that’s a whole new environmental debate :0 Griff -
Midland Main Line Electrification

Very true but I live on the line so perhaps my view may be more valid than a Waterloo traveler ( been there done that lol) but if they can’t persuade someone who is actually looking at EMP from their bedroom window to use it then they need to work harder to get my £ ….. btw loading on MML wasn’t exactly heavy before lockdown unless you wanted an early train….. in which case demand required a kings ransom rather than just a second mortgage Griff
