  1. Thanks for the info Rob , very useful .

I've used mounting card as the road bed as seen here ,

    attachicon.gifDSCN3010.jpg

The landfill on  the track side is now in and a first coat of plaster filler had been

applied , a second coat will soon be added .

The colour and way to achieve a textured look for the road was my stumbling block .

    .

A lot of people don't like the coarseness of the Green Scene textured paint but if you rub it when applying it its not that bad.I like it.Those scenic mats [14 x7 ''] are £3.50 each so doing a quite a large area can be costly.I enjoy the scenic side of railway modelling.

  2. Hi Rob ,

really enjoying these photo storys .

A question for you if you'd be so kind , post 403 on page 17 shows the road running behind the station ,

what did you use to form it and how did you achieve that colour please ?

I was thinking our's would be a grey colour but Stu says we should have then more like the colour of your's

as being a better shade for Devon , in my youth I seem to remember Somerset roads being more of a pale

    grey .

Its a while since I did it Mike but I used Green Scene light tarmac I think using my fingers to apply it as it wrecks brushes quickly.I might have added some black or white to vary the shade. They do a dark tarmac too in their range. The road was formed using mounting card in as long a piece as possible to avoid joins but filler usually disguises it anyway. The foreground of the second photo is it in close up.

  3. Traitor! Don't think the GWR brotherhood didn't notice that.

You have one chance to make up for it. And you'd better give it your best: Don't forget what happened to Aunt Augusta....

Ah my beloved Mikkel.Where have you been as I've missed your wicked wit.I've been doing a survey and the photos of Western Region action is being 'liked' more than GWR .Not by me though ! A King was loaned to me by an Eastern man. The balance will be redressed I can assure you.The Stars are coming soon. ;)

  4. Looks good, I prefer put grass straight onto the layout rather than use a grass at but you did a good job changing the effect of it!

Yes I'd agree but I wanted to shew how I made the embankments that are in quite a few of my photos. These mats are great for covering large areas quickly especially over newly made landscape forms like modroc.I'm going over the scenics at the other end of my layout and thought I'd try them again.Lets see if it works as well.

  5. I've just dumped a load of lining paper Mark left over from wallpapering the kitchen.I like the sound of an eggshell finish as mine was plain white. The assistant didn't give you a strange look then. ;)

  6. I managed to get some meadow sheets from Green Scene and have prepared them as shown in the photos. As supplied I don't like the colour so I've used my puffer bottle and Heki/Noch static grass to my taste.I've used a summer green and a winter brown mixed.

If you have a grassmaster the options are greater as the larger static grass strands won't work through the bottle. You can buy a special glue but I've used hairspray being a tightwad.

If you're putting these mats direct to modroc I would leave the furry backing on it but as I'm laying it over previous scatter I've peeled mine off.PVA is perfect for gluing this to the layout now.More later.

  7. 81C if your talking about thro' coaches down to Kingswear, get hold of a copy of Operation Torbay By Xpress publishing, I think they do other books about Devon and Cornwall as wel as other places.

Talking of timetables. This is also something I've been looking at and have just found this online.Fabulous.Its in two parts and has loads of info.

  8. Anyway whilst at Railex ,a great show,I picked up this kit built beauty which is on loan from Mallard60022 of this parish.Very nice even with its double chimney. An apology here for a blatant anachronism of BR 1955 and Great Western coaches but I couldn't resist putting them together.Mk1s tomorrow perhaps. Thanks Phil.Nice to share some time with Mike [stationmaster] and meet some of the members like 46444,Captain Kernow and Chris F who contribute to this thread.

Anyway its King class 6015 'King Richard Third' on the 730 train Wolverhampton to Penzance.More to come from this Wills beauty...

  9. Robin I'll try to remember to bring the March 1947 through coach working with me tomorrow so you can see what it looks like and how difficult it can be to identify vehicle types from it.  And I can watch to see if you buy any sidelamps ;)

Thanks very much Mike and yes you did watch while I bought some lamps from the Rural Railways stand for anyone else who wants some.Something regal coming later by the way after I've recovered from the Railex show ...

  10. Rob, somehow I acquired 'Operation Cornwall' as mentioned elsewhere and it has some interesting info on train formations. However it does not identify the individual Diagrams of vehicles I'm afraid (re. our LMS coaches chat earlier).

    P

Thats a shame. So we're in the dark my friend. What info have you gleaned from it relevant to Brent post war.
