  1. Inspired by a photo sent to me by Neal Ball of this parish I've taken the plunge and bought a Dapol signal. This has been earmarked for the end of the platform at the West end.Despite their shortcomings as discussed in their thread I think they might be ok for me and I'll get some more. Anyway as you know a drilled hole of 14mm is required and as I didn't plan my layout guess what ? Yes its position corresponds with a cross beam.I've drilled it out but won't be able to use the fixing nut as planned.A bit of luck came my way as I used cork underlay and cutting this away so the base can be hidden was a breeze. When its in properly and wired and tested I will lay some earth scatter over the base to make it disappear. Maybe if I was braver I would replace the signal finial with a MSE/Wizard casting. A couple of good posts [261]by The Stationmaster is here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/53096-Dapol-working-signals-review/page-11 [245] http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/53096-Dapol-working-signals-review/page-10
  2. I've come across a loco I'd forgot about in the shape of a Bachmann 43xx mogul.Theres a cracking photo in the recent Norman Lockett book of one at Dawlish Warren.Very nice and I'll try and rustle up a similar freight for her but in the meantime some more of whats gone before.
  3. More familiar stock back on show with black and white conversions of previous offerings.I'll try and get some new shots this weekend in between the S & T department fitting a new home starter.
  4. Looks like the S & T department will be working on Brent at the weekend.Does CK know !

It says in all the books to make sure you plan before you build your layout.Did I eck as like and I'm now feeling the consequences.

I wouldn't worry, I don't plan that much either, and suffer in exactly the same way afterwards! ;-)

  5. Well as you can imagine I've been scanning my books to find an excuse to run a Southern train through Brent. I have a vast library for them. However all is not lost as in Peter Gray's book Steam on west of England main lines there's a photo shewing Battle of Britain class 34063 '229 Squadron' leaving Aller Junction for Plymouth in 1959. I bet Spams aint got this one. According to the book regular engines during the war were N class with three daily workings including one goods turn but by the 50s West Country Pacifics took over.An U class mogul was used on one occasion.

Blimey Mike thats a long list.At that rate there won't be many left for you to do.I think 4054 Princess Charlotte will be one of mine.
  7. Ok here goes head over the parapet time. Ex SR rebuilt Merchant Navy class 35023 'Holland-Afrika Line' trundles through Brent on a Plymouth bound oil tank train . Sorry I missed the engine. It was too quick for my lens.
  8. That was WEP kits that I've mentioned before unless they both do it of course. There's a list of use here. http://www.gwr.org.uk/kits7goods1.html
  9. Western Wagon Works sell some nice kits as I used to drool/dream when I saw their stand at Telford on the occasions I went.
  10. More black and white conversions of previous offerings.Sorry if I'm repeating myself.Sorry if I'm repeating myself. One of The Stationmasters Bachmann SECR beauty too.
  11. As some on here with a Southern inkling, mentioning no names are trying to get their stock through Brent . I thought I'd turn the tables and show 1368 again, sorry, before she was seen in service for them lot at Wadebridge.

Which name are you going for then Mike ?
  13. Of course you are quite correct in everything you say BUT there's nothing better than GWR or Western stock for that matter to run through Brent.
  14. The ONLY way they will run on Brent is if a lucky visitor happens to have them with him at the time of visit.Unless I organise a members day of course.
  15. Thanks for everyones positive input and 'likes'.There will be no photos tonight as I'm off out gigging in Brum.I'm seeing a band I first saw live in 1981 at the Odeon.Happy days.
  16. I've been converting some of my photos to black and white images this evening.Just wondered what everyones thoughts are on this and whether they really work or not for future reference. Here's a thrice of 4547 and 3796 again.
  17. Call it a caption contest.A pair of trainspotters were seen on the sea wall this afternoon deep in conversation about what they'd saw.Any suggestions chaps. Please don't include the Finching sisters in this.

A bump for this thread to ask if using the BR version, could I rebrand the tender to G badge W post war livery and add the firebox lining.Would this be correct and I could then rename to a good selection. The only problem would be the smokebox number though.
  19. Whats it like at Twycross these days as its a few years now since I went. Its the nearest zoo to me and about a 30 minutes drive.Still got lots of monkeys?
  20. The next set include 4547 small prairie and single coach on the branch as 3796 trundles through the station.
  21. Someone asked for a long freight so here's pannier tank 3796 on a coal train firstly seen through the trees and then the station.
