  1. This sequence shews both the restaurant coaches in the rake with a first [H43] and third [H44] respectively.A lot of work needed to do this pair as the interiors are very detailed. The final photo shews the corridor composite [C69].The curtains are etches from Frogmore/Dart and painted an appropriate colour.
  2. The third photo in this sequence shews the brake third [D120] which is the opposite hand to what the Airfix/Dapol/Hornby model represents. This is the full Comet kit and not the overlays that maybe could be used on an Airfix donor coach.
  3. A few more photos shewing the CRE hauled by 4948 'Northwick Hall' and 5011 'Tintagel Castle'.The coaches are cruel in close up !
  4. Thanks for everyones kind words and likes and here's something nice for a Sunday afternoon.A few liberties taken with this train and one can only assume a failure of a King,ie I don't have one, as a double header of Hall and Castle bring the down CRE through Brent. I've modelled seven coaches of this service.Five are kit built Comet and two are old Airfix. The kits were all pro painted by Larry [Coachmann] and Chris Phillips although I did build the kits, a couple with Mallards help I must confess. They are not easy and I wouldn't recommend them as a first go.I'll go into detail as we go through the shots.
  5. I won't pretend I know what a 2 -set P is but here's a closer look at those vans in detail. The Dapol vans have had the roof detailed with piping and steam heat pipes on the ends.Whilst the Hornby vans have had Bachmann type pipe couplings between themselves and the Dapol fruit d's too.I think this makes for a nice looking inter regional parcels train.
  6. The mention of the overscale GWR emblems on 9319 made me take this photo of my 6829 'Burmington Grange' for comparison. This was re-lettered using Fox transfers and looks better for it.
  7. Blimey I missed that.Good job I'm in a good mood,I must be to show this.Anyway its apt its 2manyspams is on the scene as what follows might meet with his approval. Hornby van c's with Dapol fruit vans all weathered and extra detail added with a renumber or two as well.I'm not biased so here's some Southern stock.....

He might have a GWR bloater or two for sale soon then.
  9. Here are a few more shots of 9319 now on a small empty coal wagon train on both an up and down service. A special mention here and a thanks to Mikkel for helping me do the station signs.A few years back now and being a luddite with Microsoft word I had struggled to get the letters the right size.I was using the correct GWR font available from the e- list as a download.Mikkel helped me out and I finally printed the version you see here on boards made up with rail supports.I've finally taken a photo thats in focus to shew them off properly ! 'Spoiler alert ' Those with a nervous disposition please don't look at my next post as it will contain items you wouldn't expect to see on a GWR layout.A swearing box might be needed for some.
  10. According to Hattons these will be with us in July/August which is good when they were only announced last month.I think Hornby might miss the boat here. http://www.ehattons.com/60993/Bachmann_Branchline_38_676_GWR_Shunters_Truck_GWR_Grey_Newton_Abbott_/StockDetail.aspx
  11. Was it destiny ? I don't know yet.Was it just by chance ? Could this be kismet ?

  12. I actually think it looks ok and its a long in the tooth model now.Maybe Bachmann will upgrade it one day. I think its a limited edition Bachmann wagon produced by Warley MRC I weathered and put into service.Still got the box and certificate. I have a few wagons of the Renwick Wilson name.

I hope he is but is reputation number won't be very high.No likes.
  14. Back to more familiar stock from my G W R stable as a very work stained 2-6-0 Mogul 9319 trundles along with some vans. This is the ex Mainline now Bachmann model that I decreased the distance between tender and loco by inserting a knob of plasticard on the peg.It works. The trees here are from International models [scale Trees] and are the trunks only. You have to add the foliage and here I used Woodland Scenics fine leaf foliage in different colours.

You just can't beat Gostude for price and quality. Don't all rush at once. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KIT-BUILT-GW-GWR-10-ton-WAGON-with-WWI-CANNON-LOAD-30098-mw-/360644136993?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item53f810d021 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KIT-BUILT-GW-GWR-MACAW-BOGIE-WAGON-with-WWI-CANNON-GUN-LIMBER-LOAD-84126-mw-/360644137001?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item53f810d029
  16. Like quite a few modellers I get sucked into purchases that don't fit my layout period and you've seen some already. When Hornby released their delightful Hawksworth coaches I had to succumb.I didn't want the brief in traffic choc/cream versions and plumped for the post 56 maroon livery type.I've assembled a parcels train using the full brakes along with a Mk1 guv and a Lima siphon, complete with a detailed underframe using a 50' Comet underframe. Here we see the rake is being pulled by 92220 but I might get a BR liveried Hall sometime as it would be more appropriate. The new Hornby one might fit the bill. The siphon was discussed here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/41277-those-0ld-lima-siphons/
  17. Thanks Jonte.I think as much as anything its the use of 2mm size ballast on 4mm/00 track. The size makes a big difference in my opinion.
  18. Yes its busier than the real station ever was. Nice shade of green though Spams. No need for swearing CK.
  19. There's a program on the TV called the Great Bear stakeout. Can someone tell them it was converted to Viscount Churchill in 1924 !

Sounds like lineside trainspotting without hope!

      Very good :-)

  20. Thanks Mikkel. It might be appropriate to mention your old blog entry here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/75/entry-2890-footplate-crew/ on the subject.I suppose a crew would be better than none and I agree on a decent footplate crew for that period but I model post war anyway.Falcon do a GWR footplate crew for Hornby models[Thats what the label says].
  21. Yes I know but what period crew shall I get ? The usual Falcon range I'd use don't seem appropriate for this loco some how.I'm not bothered about harming it as its weathered so its limited edtion value has gone out the window.
  22. Yes worthwhile and relatively easy to do too.Another batch of Bachmann at their best loco shots shewing 3440 and 92220 in scenic settings. Those with eagle eyes may notice the new platform stones for my plants carved out of das clay.
  23. Can anyone tell me what the officials behind the goal line in football matches actually do ? Decisions,I don't think so.

And what is that thing they are holding? Looks like a folded up umbrella!

  24. Just happened to read an article by Ian Bowyer who was in the Forest side that did it and then won back to back European cups.A truly 'great' achievement when you look back. Also in my lifetime I've never seen my team finish higher than 6th in any division.Thats what you call a supporter I suppose.I'm no glory hunter
