  1. Afternoon all, hope everyone's keeping safe. Work on WBQ has been rather limit as of late, with me deciding to have another crack at my N gauge layout 'Lunerigg'. I've also had a go at repainting some 2nd hand VGAs from EWS to RfD. However something for WBQ has turned up, which has jumped up the priority list... York Modelmaking have delivered the kit of parts for the Platform 1&2 buildings. From this... To these... Happy Modelling, Wild Boar Fell
  2. Decided to take a (hopefully) brief interlude from building Warrington Bank Quay to push on with my attempt at an N gauge diorama/ layout 'Lunerigg'. It has been stored for nearly two years in a very incomplete state. This weekend I've got it the point of starting to lay track (not shown). Hopefully I will remember to update the layout thread too. Stay Safe & Happy Modelling, Wild Boar Fell
  3. Look like Warrington Arpley, near the former Gartons Seeds warehouse?
  4. Indeed it did remain as D9016, and is now in much better external condition over in Margate.
  5. Evening all, Some photos to show some of the progress made recently on the structures. The ticket office and Red Star parcels office are coming along now. The small platform office has been replaced with a deeper structure so it can be set into the platform like the others (not shown) and the main platform building has now been cut as a test (probably going to laser cut it to match the other structure). No progress on the backscene since other than the overscale factory building has been re-cut. Apologies for the photo quality, phone pics this time. Happy Modelling, Wild Boar Fell
  6. Was nearly going to make an upbeat post about today's progress on the buildings... Then when going to put them on the layout found the cameo cutter had decided to randomly scale the files (113% ish), so it is back to square one. More annoyingly I was quite happy with the results, and those windows took forever to cut out. Balderdash! Wild Boar Fell
  7. Looking dangerously like progress... Think i'll be counting bricks in my sleep by the time this lot is done! Wild Boar Fell
  8. Whilst I can't take credit for making the connection, surely the title of 91 in car form... Some yellow paint, a Swallow sticker and a coat-hanger, job done! Wild Boar Fell
  9. Looking forward to these, where did you find these please? Hopefully they'll remove the yellow stripes off the TSO before production.
  10. Wouldn't that affect the use of any 90, are at least any without UIC?
  11. For structure gauging purposes, your honour...
  12. Not much to report this week other than I am going to attempt to use Andy York's method for doing the roadway. I've managed to get some cheap 2mm craft foam to start having a play with.
  13. Thought i'd start mocking up the backscene. The height of the buildings is upto the masking tape, the Hornby boxes are the red brick building. Not entirely sure what the low level buildings are which back onto the siding. It also looks like i'll have to raise up the area where the truck is as this appears to be a few feet above ground level. Looks like i'm going to need to eat a fair few pringles before I can mock up the next section though... EDIT: Before I permanently covered the siding in grass and bushes, I couldn't resist sending a Dallam Jinty (ok should be 47406) down with some Crosfield tankers (Poor quality photo admittedly). Happy Modelling, Wild Boar Fell
  14. Back Track-in... In a U-turn from a previous decision, I have decided that I am going to put the abandoned Crosfield's siding at the back of the layout. The backscene is going to be tricky anyway, some will be low-relief other structures will be photos or painted (not sure yet), so it made didn't seem like I was gaining much from excluding it. The siding was acomplished using a mix of left over and new track. It is however still very much a work in progress. The siding is not connected to any of the running lines and will not be wired up, infact most of it will be buried under shrubbery anyway. To add a little variation in height, I have glued this track directly onto the baseboards rather than given it a ballast shoulder as per the other lines. I've also started playing around with the factory boundary fences, but again these have a lot left to do on them (hence them not being straight). Trust me, there is a siding in there somewhere... 15. I haven't checked the vehicle numbers, but my understanding was the rakes were going to consist of: DVT-POD-SV-TO-TOD-TOE (Although the position of the TOD may differ) Basically the TfW formation but with the addition of a TOD.
  16. 025 and DVT '29 also reached Piccadilly today, now I have a legitimate excuse to model it for WBQ... ... like that held me back!
  17. Not a lot of visible progress to show this week, a few bits of detail painting mainly. However the roadway (Dunelm access road) has been sanded, coated, sanded again, painted, weathered and now repainted and I'm still not happy with it (so no photos for now). This week has seen the loco fleet expand with the addition of 37046 in Dutch. This is the standard Bachmann release but was picked up second hand from my local model shop at a very agreeable price. As the photo from Flickr shows, 046 was not a stranger to WBQ in era. Looks like it will need the additional headlight and warning flashes adding at some point, or should it become 043 in Dutch with Transrail logos? This... or this? Plodding along in the background has been the painting of the eastern bridge span and footbridge. I won't assemble it until the surrounding structures are ready, as unfortunately the span has warped a bit since its construction so will need to be securely fitted. Regards, Wild Boar Fell
  18. I did consider using the Peco catch points on Bank Quay, but they didn't look much like the prototype in my case. So I modified some other Peco points (sorry can't remember which ones). Kind Regards, Wild Boar Fell
  19. DB red should also prove a close match for the red.
  20. Look forward to seeing the BUO conversion, they've certainly been very visible at the RTC. Some pretty sizeable receptacles have been fitted to them too. One was in the rake with the 'dustbin' on Friday IIRC. Reminds me I still have a pair to finish (started with a Mk2e before Hornby announced a Mk2f). Kind Regards, Wild Boar Fell
  21. Some more progress on the car park and platforms, with P3 & P4 repainted and lined. Next up is painting the patches where the surface has been replaced or repaired, turns out this is a very quick way of getting through roles of masking tape (18m in two days). Wild Boar Fell
  22. Thank you Chris, hopefully some day it'll be ready for the exhibition circuit (think HS2 might beat me). Late 90s stock would be spot on, I am using photos from 1998-2004 as a reference for stock and station details. In the last few days I have furthered some of the painting of the platforms with all the edging stones now painted and varnished. The white lines have also been added, with Platform 2 receiving an additional yellow stripe. Platform 3 will be similarly adorned once the surface has been repainted. I am trying to add variation into the surface by representing the sections that have been relayed/ replaced (the shape of the lighter section in the photo needs adjusting slightly). Kind Regards, Wild Boar Fell
  23. Thanks for all your kind comments, wishing everyone the best for 2020. Happy Modelling, Wild Boar Fell
  24. Looks like it has gone to the Lancashire Mining Museum.
  25. Regarding sanding discussed earlier, GMRT 2461 (IIRC) is worth reading to understand current thinking along with its briefing notes. This includes the location of sanders too.
