  1. Not since they have moved on to the newer versions also you have to send them to Austria I have once seen advertised someone in the UK who does these repairs but can't now track them down
  2. I have an ESU DCC Sound chip failed in normal use All functions are fine but the power transistor has failed. No warranty Can anyone direct me to someone who can do repairs? Thanks
  3. Excellent work Jerry. Surely Bachmann have missed a trick by overlooking the EWS livery. C'mon Bachmann - WE WANT AN EWS 90 FOR CHRSTMAS!
  4. When I spoke with Dapol staff at Alexandra Palace in 2019 - they had decorated samples and I held them - but they rightly wanted to correct the livery. At that point in time they were 6 months from a production run and I am sure that they are probably more frustrated than their customers at not being able to have brought them to market quickly. The problem for me with the Bachmann approach is .... well nearly £500 for a BEP...what can I say?
  5. Dapol are a smaller company and have had to contend with increased labour costs in China, then Brexit and Covid and they also had a bad time with the livery and PCB of the Class 73 (which otherwise could have been highly celebrated as a model) On top of that they have a potential danger that Hornby could retool their 59 That is a LOT of risk Fools rush in where angels fear to tread...
  6. Thanks. That looks a great set, let me know if you ever want to sell it.
  7. I am interested in modelling the Italian railways and currently interested in buying an E444 ACME, Rivarossi and Roco models are currently available new and second hand. I know from experience ACME have the finest level of detail (perhaps too much as pieces can fall off) The Hornby / Rivarossi and Roco models are also looking well detailed but I want to know if either of them use traction tyres Any help from members on here would be appreciated. Also there doesn't seem to be a section on Italian Railways in the overseas section atm
  8. Funny - there were complaints on this forum at £60 a coach but they sold out fast. The DBSO goes for £120 second hand and are hard to get.
  9. Bachmann Mk2f coaches with DCC decoders fitted retail around £70, so it can and has been done
  10. What the scene may look like before I start the ballast
  11. The couplings are different and there is the internal lighting - so there may be problems with that
  12. Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere - does anyuone know if the soon to be released Tube stock will have bodies that can be changed with the original EFE models - as I would like to model the Aluminium body colour of the Central Line
  13. I am going to take another look at hacking the sides off a CEP 2nd and glueing in the sides of a mk1 buffet. I have both at hand and they only cost me £80 for both...
  14. I can't understand why Bachmann didn't just make the coach - the do it all the time when they make new coaches and they don't come out costing £100 each Yes you czn say they want to sell the other 3 coaches too - but that is assuming we are happy at £500. I have cancelled my pre order, it was one price rise too many just to get that one Buffet car.
  15. Agreed - still a great time to enjoy the hobby despite recent price shocks
  16. All the more reason that modellers who do want to see the HST P in OO gauge make more clamour on Rapido's doorstep, open their pocketbooks and commit to pre-orders!
  17. I have got to support models such as this - otherwise I will never see a Class 304, 316 or 317 etc......
  18. This Youtube video shows the incredible amount of effort and expertise which goes into making a locomotive It's surprising they come in at under £200 (1) The Building and Design of a New Model Train Locomotive - YouTube
  19. I am sure I have read somewhere on this forum - that for any given model - you have to spend many days to train the assemblers to be familiar with a specific model and they will only work on that model from beginning to end of the production series, so although they are employed by the factory, they will only work on one project at a time. This makes short run one off models proportionately more expense than continuously churning out Mk3 coaches for example. I think it was also mentioned that for long production runs, as some assemblers move on, the remaining workforce are still there to share expertise to new workers who move onto to the production line and to maintain momentum. It would certainly could explain (for example) why we have seen an initial flood of a model in several liveries and then a long wait before we see anything (if ever) again - even though the tooling is still there.
  20. I don't know who Dapol and Rapido are currently using to manufacture their models but I can't imagine it is the same company. However Rapido is a larger company. They could block book longer production slots years in advance and fall back on a larger repertoire of tooling to fill spare slots. Smaller companies, shorter runs, I guess they have to slip in between. With new models you have to train workers to assemble it and once that run is over you may lose that skilled workforce. That skilled workforce will be a severe cost, especially for a small company. Could you do Oo and N in parallel and use the same assemblers on both? Probably if you could get many components the same.
  21. Really frustrating to wait years for an excellent EMU model and then we may see fewer being made because of wild price fluctuations injuring manufacturer and buyers alike. £500 without sound
